Speaking Na'vi in my Sleep?!

Last night I listened to the Avatar soundtrack (just the quiet songs, like Pure Spirits) until I fell asleep.

The following morning as I woke up, my mom told me that for about 30 seconds last night I was talking out loud in my sleep of what seemed to be a different language. Could I have been talking Na'vi in my sleep? Could the soundtrack playing through my sleep affected me that much that I rambled on in Na'vi for a good 30 seconds? This is odd, but at the same time very cool. Just thought I'd bring this story to the forums. :)

Could be.

Or maybe you were just rambling. Record yourself as you sleep next time.

Petrucho 05-30-2010 03:41 AM

maybe you should record yourself while sleeping ... I think that's a great idea :D, but the next day it would take you a lot of time to search the "talking times" :P

How to know if you were talking Na'vi or anything else :P

Fridge Magnet 05-30-2010 05:21 AM

that sounds pretty cool :)

My mum funnily enough caught me swearing in my sleep once :S lol

Txum_kali'weya 05-30-2010 06:51 AM

that would be awesome.

tm20 05-30-2010 07:29 AM

possible, your dreams are significantly influenced by what happened during the day. the soundtrack would have been alot of information for your brain to use for a dream, not to mention you listened to it while you slept.

It could very well be Na'vi that you spoke while asleep. I've heard of people that could carry out a conversation while fully asleep, speaking some Na'vi couldn't be that far fetched.

Once, when I was at camp, a roommate said a yelled "WIENER!" 14 times in my sleep.

Human No More 05-30-2010 12:08 PM

That's epic! :D

If this doesn't make me one of The People I don't know what will! :D

I knew a guy I met in Germany, who came from Croatia... Now, he wasn't really good at speaking German - like - not at all. But the fun thing is, as soon as he becomes drunk, he can speak almost fluently!
So I think it's very much possible indeed.
The mind is a funny thing.

Nah, I did not. I want to have a dream about Avatar so bad though! I can't believe I haven't had one after 11 viewings! I usually have dreams about things that stick with me, and Avatar has stuck with more than anything else ever since I watched it...but do I dream about it? Not yet.

I'd like a good dream though, not a nightmare. Usually my dreams are "worst case scenario" situations. For example, one dream I had a while back, started off with me taking a science test in school, and not finishing it when everyone else did, having other people pass it in and I was the only one left, having to stay after school until late that night to finish it. The things that would suck in life usually appear in my dreams, but it would be nice to have, for once, a dream that's perfect.

A nice dream of running through the Pandoran forest at night with Neytiri? That would be nice. But nope, not so much luck. :S However, there is still hope!

Could be, or it could be gibberish.

How much Na'vi do you actually know?

Eltu 05-31-2010 06:37 AM

This is so awesome!

:D

it is pretty awesome hunter! :)

It's not all that far fetched- I've been heard speaking something very quick before that 'Sounded like Spanish' according to my dad, who's pretty good with languages.

I don't speak Spanish, other than "Good day" and "One/Two beer please"

You've got yourself covered, then!
And on the topic of dreams... 7 3d viewings over like 5 months, and not a single dream (And I usually remember my dreams)...
FML.

ZenitYerkes 05-31-2010 04:19 PM

And I found myself dreaming in English.

...

*cough* I am Spanish. So I often dream in Spanish.

I'm semi-prone to lucid dreams because I've had them before Avatar, and I think I had a couple since starting to view it but they were generally not related or only semi-related to it. Or once I decided the dream was then going to be about the Na'vi and such, but it didn't work out that wonderfully.

I've seen Avatar about 15 times in 3D, once in Imax, so I'm doing a lot worse than you! :)

Just the basics. I can't speak fluently 100%, but if you went up to me and said Oel ngati kameie, ma tsmukan...I'd know what you meant. ;)

Grif 06-01-2010 05:23 PM

Well then it sounds like it is possible. Ironically enough I passed out in the doctor's office due to a rapid change in blood pressure (which is weird as it is, but nothing serious) and I was told I said something like "kameie"

Alyara 06-02-2010 03:08 AM

Some researchers say that you can influence what you dream about by what your brain is stimulated during that fuzzy haven we go into right before sleep overtakes us. So it could be possible. Ive spoken french in my sleep before, so why not Na'vi?

Human No More 06-02-2010 01:30 PM

I've certainly dreamed of Pandora enough... I used to talk in my sleep years ago, but I don't think I do any more.

I've heard that if you dream in a language, you know it fluently.
