Food Inc.

So I just watched the movie "Food Inc." and wow what an impact it made on my thinking!

This movie shows what is really happening behind our eyes in the way food is made and processed and how the curtain is pulled over our eyes the whole time! I have normally been the person to put on the blinders and ignore whats really happening. Tell myself that there are so many people we need to feed and this must be the only way. However, this movie changed everything for me.

This thread is intended to spark your interest and get you to go watch this movie and come back with your ideas. Or if you have already seen it than we can discuss ideas to better our food, i.e. farmers markets, organic food, growing your own, etc.

If you havent seen this movie go watch it now! :D It will definitely make you see things in a different way!

A similar programme is what made me change my mind about eating meat. Some of the ways it's done and the way it's treated is far beyond what anyone could ever consider natural.

As for fruits and vegetables, I hope you enjoy your radiation. ;)

This was on PBS about a month or so ago, and since then my mother has sworn off chicken.

It's crazy the way a few companies have changed the way all our food is made! It's almost like nothing is left that they haven't tainted! I know i will now do most of my shopping at a farmers market using things that are in season and grown locally!

Never heard of this film, but I do know about Monsanto from a similar documentary like you described. Makes me sick.

Its pretty much exactly that, they show us all the things that the food industry wants to hide from us. All the genetically modified food etc. You would definitely enjoy it!

Is genetically modified a bad thing? Souds pretty good, like it might give me super powers or something.

Umm... thats not how radiation works. Objects that are exposed to ionizing radiation don't become radioactive.

Not to poke holes in what you're saying. I believe in organic foods. Some of the things they do to regular food definitely aren't natural.

Case and point.

Lulz!

What I mean by that (Ill use part of the movie) is where they changed the
DNA in chickens so that they grow faster than they normally should, and then because more people like chicken breast they designed the breast to be bigger. When this happens the organs and bones cant keep up and the chickens can hardly stand and now are never allowed to see sunlight during their entire life if the purpose is to kill and eat them.

This istelf may not seem to bad until you look even further into the food they are fed which itself is modified to a certain way. It all ends up as a big chain affect somewhat.

Yes this reminds me of Glass Walls

Aye, that's why I stopped eating processed food lately. It wasn't so much of a choice for me, but rather something inside told me to stop eating them. I mean, I instinctively knew that fast food is bad for you but recently in the past year or so, my body started rejecting it out of the blue. It wouldn't tolerate all the additives, preservatives, and the processed stuff they put in the food. It also didn't give me the energy needed to keep going as much as before. I was shocked but this change has forced me to find more organic, pure, natural wholesome food. With the quality of higher nutrition, it's been getting easier on my body to handle the adjustment.

Here's one of the videos that might help prove with more of their ridiculous schemes.

I try to eat as much organic as I can, but I don't know what most restaurant get in.

I've been studying farming practices for my design studio; we're developing ways to farm in the city in order to produce more local food. We had to watch Food Inc as part of the course, and it definitely changed the way I view my food. I've always been a healthy eater, but after seeing the horrors of Food Inc, I've sworn off fast food and now only buy organic. Lately I've been trying to buy more local as well.
