Mo'at's Blood Test

I've always wondered. How does Mo'at know that Jake is sincere by simply sampling his blood? Does a Na'vi's blood content somehow change when someone is in different states of emotions? Does Jake's body and facial language give it away, thus allowing Mo'at to induce his intentions? Is Mo'at somehow spiritually connected to everyone including Jake, and thus took faith in him because of Eywa? Or did she take a gamble on Jake?

James Cameron mentioned that animals on Pandora have heightened instincts, but are certainly not telepathically connected. Thus, Mo'at's reasons to let Jake stay has never been too clear to me.

"He tastes horrible! I don't think Eywa wants us to eat him."

I was wondering that myself for some time, also in the scene where they are doing the transfer when Grace is dying, she is not connected with her queue. How could she know it's time for Na'vi to shut up, when she's so busy doing her fanatic dance?

aoitennyo 06-03-2010 08:05 AM

^^ Lol, "fanatic dance." I think this whole "poking Jake" thing is just for the effect it has in the scene rather than have a real reason. If that makes no sense, I'm sorry. I'm reaaaally tired.

It is believed that Mo'at possesses a strong connection with Eywa. With that, I can only guess what other "powers" she has.

Ratavasidna 06-03-2010 08:31 AM

she can see into the future,by taking the blood sample and licking it, and see her daughter mate with jake, but still ask "IZZ DIS TRUE?" for dramatic effects.

In the script, they let Jake stay so they can study him, Jake even said that in the movie, "They're going to study me" because he is a Sky Person Warrior

As for the blood, the Avatar program isn't full Na'vi, its part human DNA along with Na'vi DNA, I'm sure there was probably a way for Mo'at to tell, along with the possible help of Eywa

Human No More 06-03-2010 11:39 PM

Stanley has an interesting idea, but I'm fairly sure he would have been recognised as a dreamwalker anyway (not just the fact he had no idea what he was doing, but his fingers, eyes, to the Na'vi probably his markings as well). It might be the same as how she looks at his queue, she's trying to see if he is Na'vi enough to learn... Mo'at is clearly very intelligent, she might have sensed there was something different about him.

The way I see it, is she is attempting to deeper interpreting his spiritual signals. There are similar methods used in many tribes here on Earth.

Care to elaborate?

Glad someone started this, it was one of my first topics to discuss. ::deep breath::
The way I interpret it is the avatars she previously encountered are mostly human, look at the difference in Grace's avatar and Rons.. their noses are more pointed than a Na'vi native. Jakes is more Na'vi than human (other than the fingers). When Mo'at tasted his blood, she looked vaguely surprised. It is possible that he had less human dna than other 'dreamwalkers' for whatever reason. (Personally I think Grace's avatar was barely Na'vi but that could be the difference in the refining of the process. She's been on Pandora longer.) So it's possible that Mo'at tasted less human and mostly Na'vi, and it was worth training him because of that.
When she first approached him and felt his tail and braid, that was just checking him out, 'looks Na'vi, feels Na'vi, let's see what he tastes like'. I don't think there was any spiritual checking out at that point, it was his initial impression on her.
As for Mo'at's signal during Grace's transfer, If you look, her eyes are 'glazed over' during her dance and after the 'eye of Eywa' for Grace, her eyes clear and she knows that phase has passed. She is connected in a trance state and when Grace comes around Mo'ats trance ended. That's how she knew that something had happened. She wasn't connected directly but has a mental connection through her own means.
Sufi trance states, many cultures have similar states like that just on Pandora it's a deeper connection due to the energy levels.

I would assume that Grace's avatar was made when the cloning procedures were still fairly new, and by the time Jake's was made, the process had been refined to the point where more Na'vi DNA had been incorperated into the avatar body.

My personal reflection. Plz add to it. ^^

rasomaso 06-08-2010 08:29 PM

I read that her pointy nose is because animators had problems doing a Na'vi nose and keeping the similarity. They just left it the way it was, but I guess it could be explained this way... Also I thought Jake's avatar was nowhere near as similar to him as with Norm and his avatar.

Thinking about it, it must be pretty ****ing cool to die as a Na'vi elder and think to yourself: 'I wasn't born in this body lol' "Hey can I get an upload to Eywa before I kick off?" :D

I have a question and it's not exactly about Mo'at's blood test, but about her queue. I don't know whether anyone has aked about it before, but seriously: don't you think her queue is "a bit" weird? I mean, look:

What do you think about it?

She's obviously trying to flaunt it
