Privacy Settings - Visitor Messaging

This is the first forum that I've belonged to where the visitor messaging service on members' profile pages is used as much as it is here. I thought nothing of it at first, but then I happened to Google some stuff relevant to Avatar and I actually got hits on my own visitor messages. Reluctantly, I decided to turn this feature off in my settings - it's no reflection on my budz here.

The only reason I even bring it up, though, is that some of the messaging here can get pretty personal, this being the intimate group of friends that it is. You should be aware that the world is watching, or at least could be. I'm sure no one has anything to hide and all that stuff. But if you want privacy, you may want to consider using the private messaging system instead.

Just my two cents, offered up for the benefit of all.

Carry on! :D

Totally agree.

Yes, especially for love notes and what not.

Yes, ESPECIALLY love notes and what not.

My logic prevails once again. :)

I really don't have any reason to turn mine off, but I can understand your reasons...

...There's one member here in particular who I read was having a conversation about a very, very personal matter. Won't say who, though. ;)

Thanks for pointing this out -- it's a good reminder. Does anyone happen to know whether, among vBulletin's thousands and thousands of options, there's a configuration setting to make VMs not visible to non-logged-in users?

Hmm... Interesting that the resident Vulcan would bring up this particular topic. ;)

(Oh well, it's not as though I need to worry about anyone leaving me one of those... :P)

I think you've observed more than you're letting on. ;)

Thanks for the reminder, it completely didnt register in my brain until you brought it up. No need for noobs to know what we are saying.

*gives two thumbs up*

Good topic. Something to think of indeed.

Although personally, my name (both username and IRL one - Ivar Hill) is pretty much screwed out there anyway...

Just search "eltu ivar hill" at google and you will see what I mean :P
