I never got to see Avatar in IMAX 3d... going to have to make sure I get to see it this time!

aoitennyo 06-08-2010 03:31 AM

Pretty sure it's legit :D. I heard it was 6 minutes. If the 12 minute thing is true... omg, I was going to go before, but this would be AWESOME!

same here, never saw it in 3d so this is like my redemption lol

Woodsprite 06-08-2010 04:19 AM

It's a fake.

Looked over all sorts of sources everywhere about an "August 18, 2010" re-release of Avatar with 12 extra minutes of footage: nothing. There will be, however, a re-release in August; that's all Cameron ever said. Never said the day, but he did say "6 minutes". Nothing about 12.

This trailer is for laughs from the maker.

This.

It's fake. The quality of the video footage is darker than it should be. Not only that, but the text doesn't match the text which was displayed in any of the other trailers. I see no reason for them to change it.

It's a very well made video though. Props to the creator!

Alyara 06-08-2010 06:16 AM

*grabs army of angry fangirls*

while it was a good vid, the fact that its a fake makes me want to resort to violent punch-in-the-throat-mode. Thats not funny one bit. I havent seen it in 3d and that thing had my hopes up

GRRRRRR

Woodsprite 06-08-2010 06:47 AM

Lol, well... sorry Vaktu and I dashed everyone's hopes. :(

Grif 06-08-2010 07:01 AM

Hooray I'll be in town then!

Cyan 06-08-2010 07:54 AM

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhh,

Alyara 06-08-2010 07:56 AM

Loverofnature 06-08-2010 08:05 AM

tm20 06-08-2010 12:38 PM

-_- damn i was so happy after watching that trailer....... but now....... FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

allycat 06-08-2010 02:43 PM

Marley 06-08-2010 03:23 PM

I was so excited when I first saw this... Now I've been reduced to emptyness.........

Why do people feel the need to make constant fakes? -_-'

ZitaX 06-08-2010 04:29 PM

WOW! I can't wait for this! Better start saving my money cause now I'm gonna have to watch it in 3D another ten times. :)

TheIknimaya 06-08-2010 05:44 PM

That's sucks it's not real. But I didn't think that it was 100% real, didn't want to get my hopes up.

I've already seen Avatar twice in 3D. Never seen it in IMAX because as far as I know, there aren't any IMAX theaters around here that were playing it. I might have to dig around and find out where I can see it in IMAX.

Alyara 06-08-2010 07:33 PM

simple google search Iknimaya, thats how i found the one near me, well not near-near me, but close enough ^^

Hehe, I did that. Plus I checked for all IMAX theaters within 100km and not one had any info on Avatar or if they even showed it there. There's an IMAX theater about 45 minutes away and it never played Avatar.

IMAX Corporation is a Canadian company like come on! :P James Cameron is Canadian too!

Alyara 06-08-2010 08:01 PM

Well, just keep an eye on it. Sometimes they dont pop up til the last minute. ^^

Hmm... well I just checked, and I'm seeing "Shrek Forever After" an IMAX 3D Experience at one theater.

Omg if Avatar is playing there in IMAX when it re-releases I'm totally going there.

If I find more I'll share.

Found 3 more playing Shrek in IMAX 3D. ^____^ Avatar had to have played in IMAX at these theaters. It better. >__>

Alyara 06-08-2010 08:09 PM

Omg Shrek! hahaha i love those movies, particularily the second one

> Uhmm... Sorry to spoil some of the fun, but IMAX won't be releasing the extended version... The extra 6 minutes go over the time limit IMAX reels can support. The sources are from an email sent from IMAX themselves.
> Their words:

Unfortunately we will be unable to screen it at IMAX because we simply cannot fit any extra film on the platter. Being such a long film (and such large film stock) our reel unit cannot accommodate any extra length, it was at full capacity with Avatar v1.
> This was only ONE email. If I were you, I'd email them as well to confirm that.

Ah yes, I remember this. I think this is 100% correct. Oh well.

Still get to see it in 3D. Not that 3D makes Avatar any better.

Sacred Tsahaylu 06-08-2010 11:32 PM

Another reason why this trailer isn't authentic :(
But yes, Arthur is right. The IMAX has a maximum limit on the length of a movie, which is 2.75 hours. Add on top of that that 3D has two reels for the two camera lenses, which means Avatar already uses twice as much film as any other movie, 26 miles each reel iirc, weighing in at ~250kg each

WOW! 26 miles of Avatar.

"How long is your trip gonna be?"
"Oh it's approximately 7 Avatars long."
"Sweet so about 182 miles?"
"Yup."

But then again...

We were sold out of our IMAX performances right up to the moment until they were contractually obligated to switch to Alice in Wonderland… Clearly, it wasn’t market forces directly; it was the availability of theaters. " In other words, look for it to be in lots of 3D theaters including IMAX.

^True again, but the last line doesn't necessarily refer to the extended version. Perhaps the regular movie will show again in Imax, and select other theaters will show the extended.

Dreaming Of Pandora 06-09-2010 09:30 AM

Im probably repeating others here but does anyone know if the re-release is only American theaters or are they going to be showing it again in Europe too.

It will most likely be a world-wide re-release. A little more than 70% of Avatar's gross is from world-wide ticket sales, so I find it very unlikely it would be re-released only in America.
