Avatar DVD - Blu-Ray Pre-Order Begins!

Hey all.

I've noticed some shops started putting Avatar up for Pre-Order.

Eltu 03-16-2010 11:26 AM

WOOOO!

Wonderful :D

Immo39 03-16-2010 11:36 AM

I'm guessing it doesn't have the extra scenes though?

stdout 03-16-2010 12:33 PM

I don't think it'll have those. Still, at Ŗ15 it's well worth getting this early version I think.

Tudhalyas 03-16-2010 12:59 PM

Do want! :D

Human No More 03-16-2010 01:59 PM

Do want indeed. I need to get my preorder in for that!

Jacob 03-16-2010 02:49 PM

Does this mean that Avatar will be pulled from theatres before April 22? I think (though maybe I'm wrong) that movies tend to leave theatres before their home video release.

Tsmu`kan 03-16-2010 02:51 PM

It had it's last week here. Today is the last showing.

TxonTirea 03-16-2010 04:27 PM

Just bought it. WIN <3

Chris 03-16-2010 05:21 PM

Im gonna wait for the version with all the extra material - while noone of us know the reason behind why they havent included the extra material ( Yeah they wanted to re-release it during the fall - Maybe it just isnt ready at that point yet ) - Basicly it all comes down to greed, and while i sure as hell would want another 200$ mill.... still it hurts my eyes :<

For the record im a huuuuuuuuuuuuge movie 'geek' as well, so its not like its an easy choice... damn it ! :D

Human No More 03-16-2010 05:36 PM

I'm going to get both the first release and the one with the extras :P

Vauktu 03-16-2010 06:47 PM

Too bad it's for UK only. I live in the US. :(

Also, for those wondering why the April 22 Blu-ray/DVD release will not have any extra footage:
Quote:

Also as expected, Fox will be packaging Avatar on Blu-ray as a streamlined movie-only release to maximize a/v quality (here's hoping for 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio). There will be no supplemental features - not even menus - but a second disc will include the DVD version of the film.

"We went to Fox and told them that, for this movie, we wanted to do something really special and reach for the best presentation of any film in the history of the format," Avatar producer Jon Landau said. "This is a movie that has done the unexpected every step of the way. Fox agreed with us and the result is amazing. Everything that is put on a disc takes up room -- the menus, the extras, the trailers and studio promotions -- and we got rid of all of that so we could give this movie the best picture and sound possible."

The BFI IMAX in London has it until at least April 22nd (and doesn't list any showings of anything after that so I guess it may go on longer still). This isn't going to stop me from pre-ordering though :)

Amazon have also opened their pre-orders, but I asked them to notify me when it was available and they didn't, so play.com it is!

Tsawke`Iheyu 03-16-2010 06:52 PM

It's available in the Eastern-Europe too ? I want that pack too... :D Good to hear about this tho'.

It is likely.

Avatar is pulled from roughly 100 movie theaters a week in the US with weekly world-wide ticket sales of roughly $20-30m, while decreasing about 15% a week. By the time April 22 comes around, it is likely Avatar will be out of most RealD and 2D theaters (IMAX is a different story however, as it continues to be sold out from repeat watchers), setting it up rather well for a re-release... :)

TxonTirea 03-16-2010 07:10 PM

Im So happy I bought this now, can't wait now!

Iluvrien 03-16-2010 10:21 PM

I pre-ordered it. I can't blooming well afford it... but I did it anyway.

And now I am desperately trying to work out a way to sneak out of the house for a few hours to go and watch it again!

zongtseng 03-17-2010 12:55 AM

Amazon, at least here in the US, still has not posted a release date, or a pre-order. Check it just about every day waiting to see it :)

zongtseng 03-17-2010 04:31 AM

Well, for those in the US, Amazon now has it listed for pre-order at $27.99 on blu-ray.

spicyapple 03-17-2010 04:56 AM

Here's the back cover of the Blu-ray. No signs of any extra features.

I've got it pre-ordered from Amazon. I have their Amazon Prime thing, so I'll get it on release day. Otherwise, I'd just go to a store to get it :)

I've been assured that Play.com will ALWAYS deliver on release day or before. I don't know about Amazon, I've never had much luck with them.

Stanley_9875 03-17-2010 08:19 AM
