District 9
Anyone seen that movie, District 9? I know it's a bit old, but I realized something.
They have LOTS of similarities. In both movies, Humans ARE EVIL! In both movies, there is an oppressed alien species. In both movies, the main character becomes an alien at the end. In both movies, the 3-letter corporations are the bad guys. In both movies, the antagonist is a military leader. In both movies, the main character rebels against the humans. And in both movies, the main character uses a big-ass weapon against the enemies. (turok, alien mech) |
In both movies, the humans consider themselves superior.
Also, the aliens, in a way, are more humane than the humans themselves. EDIT: Shouldn't this be in the TV and Movies sub-forum? |
as for the human at the end: Jake had a choice. whats-his-face didn't.
i havn't seen that movie in a long time and it wasn't very memorable... |

And btw, the humans in Avatar aren't evil. The mercenaries were bad, yes, but not the human race. |
this is what i thought as well. I thought I was the only one that noticed these similarities. I also think District 9 is similar to Blood Diamond.

Hmmm, maybe that's why I liked District 9 so much!
I feel that Avatar is superior in some aspects- It totally draws you into the beautiful world, the love story, all of it... Mmmm. District 9, however, is probably my second favorite movie. I really enjoyed the delivery and story, and the character development of... that main guy (can't remember his name). He went from some random who you didn't realize was the main character, to again a minor victim, to the protagonist, to the antagonist, back to the protagonist. Yeah, you see betrayal and selfishness in other movies too, but I found it was really well done for this one. |
Yeah, District 9 is certainly good, and there are some similarities. Boomachucka is right about Avatar though, and to be honest, the message was a lot stronger.
