USER POLL: Signature Size Limit.
Many users in here have signatures that are very large, compared to in other forums - often covering half the computer screen, in many resolutions.
So I'm wondering - is this something you others see as something bad or good? If you want, we could naturally implement a signature size limit (physical size, that is) - to keep the size of signatures down so they don't cover half the screen. If you do decide to have a size limit, this limit will be decided in a SECOND poll - in other words, nothing to worry about now. The poll will last for 3 days and the outcome will be decided by the winning choice, as always. |
I think it's fine the way it is, I don't like being forced to resize anything, chop it anywhere or not being allowed to show it in my sig. I don't mind big signatures as long as it doesn't stretch the page, but I don't think anyone here is that insane...
|
I choosed second option. keep it free. I believe people here are intelligent and will keep it in good scale. Anyway it's fine so far.
And mine is not the small one :D |
I agree with na'vi supporter. If people can control them selves, then no need to take action.
|
Voted no but my monitor is pretty good size so it doesn't bother me too much. But people should be aware of their sig size for those who may be viewing on a small display.
|
I do agree on the limitless sig size because it's up to the individual to be responsible for themselves..However I think that people who have massive sigs should make them a more moderate size..Just so that people aren't waiting for ages for pages to load properly..The majority of people here are doing the right thing. I haven't seen any giant sigs yet but I'm sure 1 or 2 will pop up eventually.
|
I have faith in the people here to be reasonable in signeture size.
|
I said no...because my siggy isnt exactly the smallest XD And I like to see what other peoples interests are :P
|
Well, do you really have to see what people's interests are in *every* post they make? I have nothing about signatures at all - but many of the sigs here cover my ENTIRE screen - I'm not joking :P And the people with netbooks here (I know quite a few)... for those, these signatures cover even more.
I love signatures - because they makes the user able to express so much in such a small space - signatures are an artform. With these huge signatures, it becomes more of a picture gallery - and I feel like it becomes tedious scrolling past an entire screen because of this. But I will listen to the community, and do what you prefer. |
We shouldn't limit the size, if somebody has a complaint, th person receiving this complaint will happily reduce their sig's size. And nobody is going to put a ridiculous sized pic as their sig.
So no, it's not entirely necessary. |
Dreaming of Pandora - people already are :P
I don't know what monster resolution you have, but for me and many others, there are a lot of signatures that covers the *entire* screen. :P Most of the time it's not just one picture, rather a lot of pictures in a row, filling all space on the screen.. But as I said, the decision is something i leave up for everyone ;) |

So it's not really the size of sigs, the problem lies with multiple sig pics and multiple animated sigs. |

In the mornings I have around 6 MB broadband but at peak times that changes a lot, and I go on at peak times. :( |

El how did you make the gifs in your sig? I got a 12 second video in 1080p that I want to make a gif from. :glol:
|
I didnt make them sadly =[ I just found them on a Doctor Who website I went to.

Been patient about this topic...
I don't like to squash anyone's talent, but when the signature is bigger than the one sentence someone posts, it's kind of annoying and distracting. On other boards I've been on there have been limits on your sig size, and it wasn't contested. People were there to read what you had to say, your signature was like a picture that best described your character (shamed to admit, it was a star wars rp board).
Since we're here as ourselves, why not just use that space to put one thing that best describes you and if you change over the period of a week or month, you can change it. On some boards it's also possible to choose which signature you use for a post if you have multiple accounts. I don't know the technical side of this board but that would be a great idea. Okay... there I go again rambling on about a topic when one sentence or two would be good. Just shut me up. |
I completely agree with you, Patrice Maire.
|
I guess I can reduce the size of my sig(s), they are fairly big and that would be annoying for someone who doesn't have a huge monitor (eh like myself *embarrassed*).
So give me a while to upload some smaller pics. :) |
Dreaming of Pandora, your images are fine. You just have *two* of them. Alone they are perfect, but together they wield a force to great and deadly to imagine!!!
|
The force has been quelled. :)

I don't have any problems with large signatures, hell, I have a huge one (large as in many megabytes:P), it's the size (vertical mostly) of some peoples signatures that can be a bit... over the edge, so to speak.
I'd like to think that people can judge for themselves what's acceptable and what's not, but sadly, I've seen that many cannot. |
i think its fine, but users like allycat, whose sigs stretch across the screen, need to change it, I say freedom, within reason

Agreed.
PM me, HNM, or any other staff member if you have complaints about any signature - or for that matter, if you have complaints about anything ;) |
Good idea.
I remember you told me about my sig once. |
I have no problem with how it currently is - there doesn't need to be a SPECIFIC limit, but any individual sigs that are too large will cause us to ask them to reduce it a bit :)
|
Yeah exactly it's not like the problem of sigs is out of control, just the odd user will have a sig that's just a tad bit too big but that can be solved interpersonally without the need of a limit. :)
|
Or you could see it this way; If you bypass said limit, you ARE NOT within reason... so the limit wouldn't hurt those that are..within... reason, right?
Wait... What did I just say? :S |

That made no sense :P

I was afraid of that :P
