While I don't have a problem with corporations on a conceptual level as it's just a form of business, but many corporations in practice in reality are absolutely cartoonishly evil. We've been so conditioned to hear how the road to hell is paved with good intentions, we seem to have forgotten that not everyone on the road to that proverbial hell has them. Giving villains noble motives so we can better "understand" why they do what they do may make them more interesting to a movie critic, but that sidesteps the point. What does unobtanium do? Well, it's a room temperature superconductor. But Selfridge doesn't care. He's just a corporate suit who's sole motivating interest is making money. He still a human being so he might be conflicted, but that certain doesn't stop corporations in real life and it doesn't stop him either. To quote the movie Thank You For Smoking: "he's doing it for the mortgage".

Maybe I'm just colored by my own bias, but despite being owned by one of the biggest corporations in the world (Disney), that to me was always the message of Avatar. It wasn't 'Noble savage good, 'Murica bad" or "Trees good, technology bad", it was to illustrate unchecked corporate power, which despite what many people think is every bit as dangerous as unchecked governmental power.

Well, for me the downside is I'm going to have to slowly put more effort into trying to avoid knowing things about Avatar 2 because I want to go into the movie knowing as little as possible about it like I did the first movie and Flight of Passage. At some point I'm worried I'll have to stop posting here altogether just when it'll become more active. :(

Also, if there's any place that needs to be worried about that proverbial air raid siren, it's here.

I've got that same worry. I really appreciate being able to enjoy the progression of a movie without expecting scenes that I saw in a trailer or promotional image. Maybe we'll have to implement a rule saying that [SPOILER] needs to go in the title of every thread that has such material.

At this point I'll take any Avatar 2 info I can get as it has been so long, but it is coming!!!! Siva ko!
