Anyone for tea? :xD:

Grif 03-28-2011 01:24 AM

I'm of the group who hates how Americans make tea. Hot water and a teabag is not the same as free leaves made properly! Also I've got the idea of a black Na'vi in my head as something pretty awesome. I sort of did it in my sig, I should have made her much much darker though.

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 01:41 AM

Interesting! Looks good.
I find it funny how some people stuff up making tea. Some add the milk before the tea leaves/tea bag. O.O

Why does Grace change out of her clothes on the day Jake and Norm first get to drive their avatars? First she's wearing a maroon Stanford top and khaki/yellow shorts with a belt and later a green top and cream/grey shorts with no belt. Could it be a different day or did she do something that required a change of clothes?

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 02:23 AM

Hmmm not sure, it's a good question though.

ISV Venture Star 03-28-2011 02:35 AM

I remember once saying how difficult it is to get in/out of shorts when you have a tail, and someone else said something about there probably being a zip round the back. But looking at Grace's shorts as she's shutting the doors on the avatar sleeping quarters her shorts look like mine - they have a hole at the back for the tail with no zip or button style arrangement for ease of removal.

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 02:38 AM

Ouch, can you imagine the pain caused by trying to stuff a meter long tail in a small area like that? >.<

ISV Venture Star 03-28-2011 02:50 AM

It's kind of a hassle, but not impossible. Here are my shorts (recently added an iron-on RDA patch) http://www.tree-of-souls.com/members..._attached.html

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 02:52 AM

:D Nice one!

I'm in the middle of doing an economics assignment for uni at the moment.

Grif 03-28-2011 02:56 AM

You've have to put the milk in before the tea, I know this is counterculture but you will scald the milk if you put it in afterword.

I have one of these babies, or rather my dad does

Night clothes maybe? I mean I sleep naked I don't think most people sleep in what they wore all day...

ISV Venture Star 03-28-2011 02:59 AM

Americans put too much milk in tea for my tastes.

Icu 03-28-2011 03:01 AM

Everyone else puts too much Tea in milk for my taste :)

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 03:01 AM

Grif: I never knew that but I agree with ISV, with the milk part. I was thinking that too Grif but I wasn't sure if we were looking at Avatar Grace or Human Grace.

Could be, I guess. I tend to wear t-shirt/boxer shorts when sleeping. If I already had a t-shirt on earlier in the day I just leave it on. Then I shower when I wake up.

New thought: how often do the native Na'vi wash/change their loincloths?

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 03:12 AM

Wash in the river with some rocks to generate friction to remove stains..Changing loincloths would be easy enough, but maybe they would do it in the privacy on a bush or up in the hammocks.

Grif 03-28-2011 03:14 AM

I'd do it daily if I were a Na'vi, I can't stand feeling dirty... Well that's not true, when I'm out backpacking I where the same clothes for days, but they are lightweight and meant for this kind of activity (meaning they don't feel as gross as normal clothes do).

Also James Cameron's comment in Playboy:

Quote:

Right from the beginning I said, 'She's got to have tits,' even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na'vi, aren't placental mammals
I salute you James Cameron in you're quest for Na'vi tits even if you do cover them up with strategically placed necklaces.

Who knows? I doubt once a day, maybe every other day, maybe once a week? Or every time they take it off to use the bathroom.

Grif 03-28-2011 03:20 AM

Terminate this conversation now. I don't see it going anywhere good.

Fighter-of-Wars 03-28-2011 03:23 AM

In the words of Katsumoto on The Last Samurai "This is a good conversation".

ISV Venture Star 03-28-2011 03:31 AM

There's still no word for loincloth in Na'vi. Someone needs to suggest one to Karyu Pawl.

Sight Unseen 03-28-2011 03:44 AM

I'm guessing the Na'vi swim a lot, maybe even as their primary way of bathing, and it's constantly wet or raining, so... maybe their clothing never gets dirty in the first place.

Either way, it doesn't matter. No where in the movie does it mention that the Na'vi have groin fungus problems. :D

Grif 03-28-2011 03:48 AM

You see! This is why I wanted it to stop.

josie20 03-28-2011 04:00 AM

Change the subject!!!

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 04:24 AM

I had Phở with chicken for lunch!! Anyone else know what it is?

josie20 03-28-2011 04:26 AM

^^Rice noodles?

ISV Venture Star 03-28-2011 04:28 AM

I know what it is. Tasty, that's what.

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 04:32 AM

Yep!! Josie20 you are on the right track. Its normally egg noodle in a broth with vegies and meat.
Vietnamese food is tasty. ;) Beats eating a average sandwich.

josie20 03-28-2011 04:37 AM

Never had it. I just used google to find out what it is :xD: I actually prefer sandwiches :P

Stanley_9875 03-28-2011 05:01 AM

Its difficult to work with this synth i programmed... it sounds super awesome but the problem is the way its programmed (which came out by mistake by the way [as with nearly all my sounds])... blah this is just difficult haha

Grif 03-28-2011 05:03 AM

Please please please listen to this! It's incredibly important!

Very Tough Love | This American Life

PART ONE.
Ira reports from Glynn County Georgia on Superior Court Judge Amanda Williams and how she runs the drug courts in Glynn, Camden and Wayne counties. We hear the story of Lindsey Dills, who forges two checks on her parents' checking account when she's 17, one for $40 and one for $60, and ends up in drug court for five and a half years, including 14 months behind bars, and then she serves another five years after that—six months of it in Arrendale State Prison, the other four and a half on probation. The average drug court program in the U.S. lasts 15 months. But one main way that Judge Williams' drug court is different from most is how punitive it is. Such long jail sentences are contrary to the philosophy of drug court, as well as the guidelines of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. For violating drug court rules, Lindsey not only does jail terms of 51 days, 90 days and 104 days, Judge Williams sends her on what she calls an "indefinite sentence," where she did not specify when Lindsey would get out. (30 minutes)
PART TWO.
We hear about how Brandi Byrd and many other offenders end up in drug court, and we hear how one model drug court participant, Charlie McCullough, was treated by Judge Williams. (25 minutes)

josie20 03-28-2011 05:12 AM

^^I heard about this earlier on NPR. I can't say I approve of her style of judging.

Pa'li Makto 03-28-2011 05:46 AM

That's not really fair at all.

Ghaziya 03-28-2011 03:21 PM

I had a college professor look me straight in the eye once when I was whining about the grade she gave me on a research paper not being fair, and she said "Life is not fair, get used to it." She was right!

josie20 03-29-2011 06:39 PM

Lately, discussion on ToS has been a-lot better than on AF. Just sayin'

Grif 03-30-2011 11:42 PM

I just played paintball, and it was awesome. And the bruises I have now will remind me how awesome it was for the next week or so.

Hunter of the Glade 03-31-2011 12:08 AM

OMG! Very impressive! Quite a bit more technical and dazzling than the strobe lights we used at basement parties a century ago! LOL

Fighter-of-Wars 03-31-2011 02:41 AM

Epic laser show.

RT: I just remembered that my school annual (yearbook) mentions Avatar in it.

Also I am feeling very good today. I drove home and even though it was 35 degrees out I had my hand out the window and I "felt the world" The air going through my fingers just felt amazing and I was filled with a great feeling.
