Does Quaritch have Daddy issues.
 

Does anyone think that Quaritch may have had issues with his father?

a few of bits os dialogue and references relating to Quaritch seem to be father based.

When fighting Neytiri and the Thanator he says "Come to Papa".

He calls the Dragon "Papa Dragon".

He refers to Jake as "son".

When showiung his disproval of Jake, he uses lines that a father may have used with a son like:

"You let me down, son." and "You crossed the line."

Could it be that Quaritch had an over-bearing father who was dissapointed by Quaritch? Could it be that Quaritch is an under-achiever who is always trying to be worthy of his father's expectations. (even though his father may no longer be around).

Any specualtion/views on this?

hmmmm never thought of it in that way. I always took it as Quaritch asserting his power over everyone else. By calling Jake son it is like a way of saying Im in charge of you and you do what I say. He is the almighty power holder.

Though you do bring up an intresting way of viewing this...this requires more thought on my part XD

Mm... no, I think you're just looking into it too far. Quaritch is probably just using those lines because he's an authoritative figure to most everyone on the base, seeing as he's in charge over everyone, second only to Selfridge.

Not to mention Quaritch is a registered badass so he can just get away with saying that stuff. Doubt 'daddy issues' are the reason why he is the way he is. :P

Regardless of how cold-hearted he is for killing innocent Na'vi, Stephen Lang played his role perfectly and to this day my friends and I still joke around and recite his lines during normal conversations.

"Haven't gotten lost in the woods, have ya?"
"Well 'alright then!"

I have to go with the daddy as a symbol of authority thing.
As for his 'issues', some people have no ability to create and seem to enjoy destroying.
I would also have to say that he takes his security job to an extreme, seeing that peace is found by killing your enemies(w anybody?), that everyone is a potential enemy (paranoia?), and that forcing submission through fear tactics is an acceptable choice.

So here is another piece of spurious evidence.

As we know one theme of the movie is the Bush campaign in Irak. And Quaritch uses the term "Mean bush." And as we know Bush had Daddy issues.

So that proves my point irrefutably I think. :P

I think Quaritch had one very bad day (or night) and let it color his perception of everything on Pandora. Well, wouldn't you be grumpy and prejudiced when your very first day there was a nightmare from Hell?

I think he spent a night alone in the jungle with an exopack and no survival skills. He's lucky to have gotten out alive. Also, it appears some creature clawed his head real deep, right in the areas responsible for rational judgement.

He has minor brain damage and probably PTSD. Does the base have no psychologists at all? He shouldn't have kept his command.

Maybe not so much w in Iraq as Blackwater inc, the hired gun head knocking security firm, who see doing their job through popping off civilians as well as any armed militia.

Come to think of it, I think the reason why Quaritch wants so much control and desire to win is because of his enemy being who they are.

They're just these little.... primitive savage idiot dumbass bimbo tree-hugging bastards that just SHOULDN'T BE IN CONTROL! Damn it!! These s**t-laden freaks!! They don't even have GUNS and they think they're in control??! They think they're the ones with the power?! They've got another friggin' thing coming. This is NOT happening! ...I see Quaritch as a person who is just so filled with anger and hatred towards the Na'vi because they're actually managing to beat him, and he's leading a pretty powerful force. His pride is wounded, and he's incredibly fumed about it.
