Lack of originality in fan art
When ever you see fanart for avatar,
its allways either photo manipulated, or paintings copied from screenshots, i mean when you look at other fan art, you see people drawing them in their own style, with comics. It does take skill to attempt to create from a screenshot, i would rather just see something more original though. |
Btw people, i'm the one who ranted about this to him, he basically just wrote down my rant. So if you're gonna RAGE about it, be mad at me not him. XD
Like I said, its not that it doesnt take talent, it's just that when you look at fanart on say DA or something, most other fandoms have really nicely done fanart of the characters done in the artist's style, or cute little comics and things. I dont see that much w/ Avatar.... I was gonna do fanart (and I have, very little though) but I lost interest. I dunno, I might do some when I have the time... and it WONT be a photomanip lol |
Well drawing something from a screenshot is waaayyy more easy than making something completely new. I'd love to, but I don't have the skills for that.

Maybe unorginall fan art is better than no art. :) I have absolutely no art skills and I really like all fan art, I think there have to be incredible amount of effort putted in, even if it is "unoriginal". And besides that, I rely more on my feelings when I build up my opinion on art items, so i don't try to find if it is some original idea.

im sort of glad you made this thread because i have some original fanart coming soon :D it's art for my fanfic and so far i have completed 2 characters, 1 is a WIP and i have 3 more to do after that. I will also draw some locations that fanfic takes place in and after that I will begin the project i have been planning for a while... a Na'vi metal band \m/ :D \m/ hows that for original :D

/me has no drawing skills, but good editing skills.....so...yeah

Drawing something new requires a familiarity with the face of the chosen. Like with cartoon characters. I could draw something, but I'd need to study the facial movements more thoroughly to grasp the essence of the character's face. Once this is done, I (or anyone) could draw the character in any mood.
But I'm just sticking w/photoshop for now. ;) I'm currently working on the second Harry Potter/Avatar mashup poster, and have replaced clothes on Jake, closed his mouth, and made him look directly at us... so that's sort of an original look for him... I think. |
Not everyone is am amazing uber pro artist. Be happy that there IS fanart. As it is, I really like how people can do different styles from something that came from the film.

^That
While some more original art would be nice. (Something this thread itself now has me contemplating) I still can appreciate the huge amount of effort and skill put into recreating a screenshot of the film in pencil, chalk, charcoal, whatever... Photomanip also takes a degree of skill, some may argue more, some less, but whichever way you looka t it, fanart of any description is something at least. :) |
