hmm, if it's only 3D that isn't so good, but I haven't read anything that specifically mentioned that yet... Avatar made so much that I'm sure cinemas will want it for their 2D screens again too :)

nickneagle 07-08-2010 11:27 AM

Yeah the US is August 27th, See James Cameron's AVATAR again in 3D and Avatar Returning to 3D & IMAX 3D Theaters on Aug. 27 - ComingSoon.net.

I have to admit when I got to work and read this, it made my day. I hurt my back and work is awful this week so this really made me smile! Soooo happy!

Na'vi_supporter 07-08-2010 11:33 AM

I was hoping it would be at the beginning of August but whatever. 5 days away from school starting ftwwwwww

Patrice Maire 07-08-2010 04:00 PM

Yay! Somehow I got the impression it would be late August. Have to check the local theaters and see who's playing it. There are two 3D theaters withing about a half hour of me. (sorry for the people who don't have that...crossing my fingers for you) I'm going to post on facebook for people in my area to do a mass viewing when it comes to town. Lord knows there will be thousands of them at ComiCon!

Jc comment about Avatar Re-Release

""Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we're making that possible. 'Avatar: Special Edition' will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you've never seen it, with this special edition, you'll be seeing it like never before," Cameron said."

Human No More 07-08-2010 08:27 PM

Do want...

TheIknimaya 07-08-2010 08:54 PM

This is great! It's coming to IMAX! Yes! I never got to see it in IMAX before, so this should be brilliant. Have to drive about 40 minutes to an IMAX theater, but it will be so worth it.

I can see it in RealD 3D at a theater that is 10-15 minutes away, which I did.

Canada isn't on that list though. James Cameron is Canadian!

Davy Jones 07-08-2010 09:41 PM

What about us poor Swedes? :O
We poor swedes who still have avatar in 3d in some cities?

So going to see this in IMAX if I can. Even if the closest one is almost 2 hours away.

Dreaming Of Pandora 07-08-2010 10:25 PM

Ah crap now Im impatient! Now I can't wait for August to come around.

Here's the Press Release:

Avatar To Be Re - Released Worldwide

Thursday 8th July 2010 18.00 IST

Press Release

LOS ANGELES (July 8, 2010): Twentieth Century Fox and James Cameron today announced that AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be released in theaters worldwide on August 27, in a limited engagement and exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.

This version of Cameron’s history-making and groundbreaking epic will include more than eight minutes of new footage. Since – and largely as of result of -- AVATAR’s release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D will now have that opportunity.

Commented James Cameron: "Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we’re making that possible. AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you've never seen it, with this Special Edition, you'll be seeing it like never before."

Commented Fox Filmed Entertainment chairmen and CEOs, Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman: “AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION is especially gratifying, because not only has AVATAR become one of the most beloved films in history, but after its initial theatrical release, we have been inundated with requests to re-release the film in theaters in 3D. Equally important, we’re thrilled that Jim Cameron is able to give audiences even more of what they loved about AVATAR.”

The Oscar and Golden Globe® winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time. Director James Cameron takes audiences to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the epic nature of the story.

Dates make the world happy. And dates are also a sticky fruit we eat.

ZitaX 07-09-2010 01:56 AM

Wheres the swedish release date?? I want to see it in 3D again so much! Especially with the new material! Oh god, please let them show it in sweden!

You can't really count on the swedish cinemas nowadays unfortunatly. They wont even show "The expendables" on the big screen, so yeah, you can see for yourself how outright r*tarded they are :S

Raiden 07-09-2010 02:10 AM

Yes!

I hope the eight minutes are the drinking/party scene and/or the hunting scene where Jake kills a Sturmbeest.

If that is the scene that will be shown, it will also show more about Tsu'tey. If you think about it, we only even got to see him when he was pissed off and when he launched his suicidal attack against the Valkyrie shuttle. Here we should be able to see him when he isn't angryfaic about everything.

Fighter-of-Wars 07-09-2010 02:25 AM

the scene where Jake finds Tsu'Tey after he falls from the shuttle should be put in it somehow.

Human No More 07-09-2010 09:19 AM

I think so too. What I most want to see is the uniltaron though.

also,
Extended Avatar re-release won't include a Na'vi sex scene | SCI FI Wire
:'(

Despite the text being way off, this one actually looks legit.

Am I the only one who got major goosebumps watching that? :D

aoitennyo 07-12-2010 01:56 AM

So, is IMAX getting the additional 8 minutes or not?

It is.

Human No More 07-12-2010 03:53 AM

Yes, the maximum length of an IMAX film is ~10min > the standard version of Avatar.

Dang. It just barely made it then.

Can't wait to see it in IMAX. Never had the chance before. Have to make a special 45 minute drive to see it, but meh.

Fkeu'itan 07-12-2010 12:49 PM

Well now...

It may be £16 a ticket at my local IMAX but i'm going whether my wallet likes it or not.

Patrice Maire 07-12-2010 04:19 PM

Nicely done video! I got goosebumps too! And I will be saving $20 out for my ticket! I never saw it in any form in the theaters. This is going to be great!
