Sad Story.

So twice now in the last two weeks I have come across as I was driving cats that had been hit by cars and left lying on the road. Both times the cat's had already passed on, mercifully, but people just drive on around them.

Its hard to do, but I can't leave them lying there, so I carefully picked them up (I usually have boxes or bags in the trunk of the car), its sad as both their heads are what had been hit and they were still warm. Crying I said a prayer thanking them for the gifts of their lives and sorry that they had to die so tragically.

I don't know about in other places but here you can take them to the Humane Society whom will carefully take pictures and record the details of the deceased animal to see if it fits (or will fit) the description of an owner looking for a lost pet and then properly and respectfully cremate them (if an owner doesn't come to collect).

I know having two cats of my own that if they got out and something happened that others would have the same consideration and kindness, their not just my pets their my close companions and friends and I would want to be able to say my goodbye's.

that's nice of you to do. where i live i don't see many dead stray animals on the road. but if there is, it's usually bird or lizards, maybe rabbits. i have 4 cats so i understand how you would feel about seeing dead cats on the road.

anyway, nice of you to do such a thing :)

It's so sad when you see something like that. Not just because an animal lost it's life, but the fact that somebody may never see their pet again :'( But what you did was a really nice thing, it's good to know that somebody took time to care :)

That's so sad. Roadkill always breaks my heart (I just saw a dear earlier this week, may it's spirit rest with Eywa :'() , especially when it's something like a cat or a dog, because it usually means someone just lost a member of their family. It's good you do things like that, Mika, even though it is probably emotional torture sometimes.

:( Very sad indeed.

I know how much it can hurt to lose a pet, especially if you don't know where they went. It was very respectful of you to do that as others have said. I commend you for it. :)

At least you did something nice though.

Sad Story

3 of my cats have died by getting hit by cars and no one ever stops when they do it. I currently have 3 other cats at home and they are all lead trained now so they can still go out but don't have the risk of the main road Which took the lives of the other 3.

I have also done the same with a dead cat on the same road my cats died. It was still warm but dead and left in the road, and regardless of the gore I picked it up and said bye to it and shed a tear for the cat and it's family. It's such a sad thing to see.

aww that is very sweet of you! and sad that had to happen :( it is unfair people are so selfish they dont even care :(
i do admit that it would be hard to do myself cause i have a bit of a week stomach and it would be too sad to look at the cats :(

Definitely know how difficult it can be, Mika. It upsets me when people hit things and just leave it there on the road. Luckily back home I work at a vet clinic so if I see anything it's easy for me to go straight to work, and we will call all the clinics in the found animal's area to alert them that someone may have lost their animal, and just do what we can. I get that people might be in a rush so they don't want to stop after they hit something, but really... even birds and such, it can't take that long to move them off the road at least... Especially in an urban area where it isn't unsafe to do so. On a motorway/freeway/whateveryoucallit, ok ok you don't want to get hit yourself.

I guess I'm lucky I've never encountered an animal that was hit... if I did, I would try to help it if I could... I don't like the idea of someone just leaving it :(
