Facebook- Good Or Bad?
 

I learned from Time Magazine that Facebook had over 500 million users and is the most popular online community site. But, I think it's too popular. Facebook is said to sell people's information and privicy is becoming an issue. Not only that, but people are spending hours and hours on Facebook and not doing anything else. I read in Time Magizine that one person interviewed spends an average of 4 hours on Facebook a day and another person interviewed said if Facebook disappered, it would be like the sky without stars. I just find that disturbing that they would admire it so much that their life would flop if it was gone. From where I stand, I think Facebook is fine for a chating sight, but in modoration.

People are spending hours and hours on TOS. lol...Facebook is just a website. Theres hundreds of other social community websites lol. I admit I do like to spend quiet a bit of time on Facebook but I dont obsess over it. I use it like its suposed to be used. To talk to my friends. Which doesn't sound like a bad thing to me lol.

I don't have a Facebook acount. But I think Facebook is ok if it's used in moderation as I said before. I don't obsess over my Tos acount. If the Internet crashed right now and tree of souls was gone, I would just resume life without it.

So what? It's not for you to decide whether someone has spent too long on Facebook. And so what if it's popular. And how exactly can it be 'too popular'?

Oh and that privacy issue is only a problem for people stupid enough to leave that information insecure.

They have a horrible track record on security measures. And have a history of, how shall I say it, "abusing" certain information posted there.

According to their ToS, anything you post there becomes there's, artwork or other items that are your intellectual property instantly becomes theirs.

I am on facebook, mainly to keep in touch with family and friends that I never would be able to keep in touch with. I occasionally write something on my wall but I am very careful what I put on my profile, especially what I talk about. Its strange but I have opened up much more on TOS than I ever have on FB and that is due to my family members being on there. I don't want to start any drama in the family since we seem to have enough of it already :grolleyes:. The only other thing that I do on FB is play bejeweled and take some of the quizes.

Yeah, I use facebook just to keep up with whats going on with my friends. I may get on it once or twice a week just to see whats up. I used to be on it about half an hour every day but since I'm not that popular, no one talks to me on there so I really don't get on it much.

I had to make a facebook account because I wanted to see what was going on with a couple of old friends. Otherwise I don't care to much for it.

People keep inviting me to join Facebook, but..

A god damed I hate Facebook,

It could be good to keep friends connection but, skype or MSN is doing job very well.

And Facebook is just filled of stupid publicity who encourage useless consuming.
To much time are spend on that, a lot of my friends are on it and there always a :"o wait a couple of min I'll check my facebook" Come on.

I was thinking that I was the only one on heart to not be on that thing (enlarged) and I realized that I have a couple of friends who are still on my side, who defend the none facebook party.

On topic, I think facebook is a good thing when used for what it's meant to be used for - and not to compare "popularity" by comparing amount of friends.
I use it to just see what's going on, chat with friends I forgot I knew, and ofc those I remembered that I knew :P
Also fun to see your friends getting tagged in a photo all drunk..

About the security issues, they have to claim ownership of images or they risk getting sued.

The games on Facebook are fun roflmao.

Personally, I think FB is very bad...in a sense. First off, it's a HUGE waste of time. At least on ToS we have constructive discussions. Secondly, people post the most asinine things on there(it's almost as bad as twitter). Third, I don't care to be popular. Thus, people don't talk to me because I'm not always striving to boost my own ego. In fact, I often post things just to get reactions out of people. It seems like most people on FB are just stupid and looking desperately for attention. Fourth, I'm sick and tired of reading people's ignorant views on politics and, in my case, constantly pushing the ultra conservative agenda. Which, in and of itself, is severely ignorant and against most of the things I believe in.

Note, when I say "people", I'm speaking of the experiences I've had with my so called "friends". I'm not generalizing everyone that uses FB. So please don't get offended as I meant no offense. Maybe I just have particularly stupid "friends", though there are a few good people I know on there. But they, like me, hardly ever use FB.

You must have some stupid friends because my friends don't post meaningless garbage on Facebook lol. The website itself doesn't make itself bad people make it bad. The people I know are smart intelligent people and don't "waste" time on Facebook. I'm sure a lot of people think I "waste" time on TOS because of the fact that its a Forum. Thats stereotyping the website like I see you doing Josie. Like you said we have great people here on tos which makes this website great. Well if you have great people on facebook that makes facebook great. Get it? lol If we didnt have the great people we do here then this website would just be pixels and html. Facebook isn't bad its how you use it that makes it "bad"
