Mirror's Edge.
I believe that Mirror's Edge was one of the greatest videogames I ever had the pleasure of playing. The game's flow, art direction, gameplay, graphics, everything about it was really quite impressive and I enjoyed every second of it.
The two gripes I do have with it is A) it's length. It should have been so much longer. But like most excellent videogames, it was a short one. (Yesterday, I actually completed it on hard, without killing a single enemy - knock-outs only - in 5 1/2 hours. Perhaps i'm super1337 or something. I don't know.) and B) It can be quite tempremental sometimes, things like not grabbing ledges or pipes when you should be are a favourite. Sometimes, enemies insta-killing you as well but generally, the game is quite bug-free. Anyone else here played it? |
Yeah, I went and bought it after Grif wrote a crossover fanfic about it here. I really liked it but got stuck on one part that I couldn't get past. Haven't played it since.
|
Yeah it's an amazing game! Sometimes it got on my nerves, but not nearly as much as most games do (I cannot stand any tiny design flaw, it has to be fing perfect for me to not b!tch about). I thought it was really innovative and very immersive! My favourite moments were at the very beginning, the first moments in Faith's body after training, it was very cinematic and beautiful, the moment she slides down on the ledge and approaches the crane, the music that kicks in, it's all freedom... :) The most awesome moment was with the train when you're trapped, when I saw it coming and then "operator" told me about the door, I felt like in the last chase in Matrix :) it literally missed me by milimetres :)

It was a good game. A very good game. Probably in my top 5. :)
|
It was OK, IMO the combat was this games biggest flaw. The flow of movement, the art. All of it was broken when you had to run around a block to stop a guy shooting at you, then slide at his stupid ass. I HATED, and I mean HATED the last level:
(Spoiler, Highlight to see) When you're at the top of the tower, and there are like, 10 guards, and you have to destroy the servers or something? I broke a controller there. |
I was going to buy this game but it was this or Mass Effect 2 so...

Also, in my weird ways, I find Garrus more attractive. >.> <.< What? |
Yeah, that game was awesome. Lot's of memorable scenes. Finished it yesterday.
The pursuit cops remind me of agents from the Matrix, strangely. Well, they both run after you, the character, who's a rebel, so it kinda figures. |
Back to the Matrix eh?
MR ANDERSON. I must stop, its like a drug. Garrus. /thread. |

They should let you choose a race. :(
But anyway. I love the G36 in Mirror's Edge. Nice. My favourite level is probably the one where you find Kate near that dudes body. Epic chopper chase. Also, I laughed my head off when you're chasing Jackknife and the idiot face plants. |

YouTube - Mass Effect 2 - Garrus Romance Scene Also, see: Failure, waste of time, annoying, censors SUCK, No Alien Pr0nz = fail I wasn't happy Bioware, I wasn't. I wanted to see some Garrus lovin' :war: |
^ You wouldn't even call that a romance scene. That was a load of nervous comments and upsetting memories for Garrus. >.<
That was clearly not epic compared to other "scenes" with other characters. And since Garrus is made of epic we should've seen something better. |

*Pounds pillow in frustration* HE'S A FISH. LEMME SEE GARRUS. NEKKED. >.> <.< What? |

"I couldn't have done it without you, Garrus." -"Well, you could've. Not as stylishly, of course." Also, yeah, for romance scenes, ME1 ftw <3 |

Oh BTW Im liking the way Mass Effect totally hijacked this thread. :D |
Yeah, good job on that.
>___> Na, only kidding. It's cool. I've never played any Mass Effect game anyway so i'm not bothered. :D |
Okay, back on topic.
I've never played Mirror's Edge so I have no idea what it's really about. I only know that it's some kind of parkour/espionage/shooting game or something. If it's a must-buy kind of game then I might consider getting it. :) |
Hmm... I wouldn't personally say it was a must BUY, perhaps a must RENT as it's criminally short. But definitely worth a play either way. The free-running sections and the design of the game are absolutely top-class.
As Txon said, the combat's a bit repetitive though. |
Well, for what little combat there was, it was pretty fun.
As for the free running, I kind of wish they'd made the game in third person, like Assassin's Creed - it's just so much easier to judge your surroundings from that perspective and your jumps, etc. In Mirror's Edge, mid-air, I was always like "Oh sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t, I'm not gonna make it!" |
The primary thing in Mirror's Edge: Momentum.
You see that glowing red plank shooting an arrow to that fire escape? You don't jump it fast enough, you won't make it. Same with combat. In chapter one, I went as fast as the game let me. I killed a cop in one jump kick. As I said before, the pursuit cops remind me of agents from the matrix. Finally someone who can try to match your abilities. |
yeah there was definitelly a matrix influence in it! :) but I think FPS view is much more immersive in ME. ;)
|
Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games (check the sig). I still play it semi regularly and I've had it since day one. I've even done cosplays for it.
|
We were wondering where you were. :D
I agree. I've finished it, but I still massively enjoy playing it. After all, they have a G36 there. G36!!! http://www.imfdb.org/images/8/87/Hkg36c.jpg Gotta love that rifle. |
I was in Australia... for a month... without internet...
|
Dear god.
And you survived? You must be a deity. |
Well I mean it was just hiking off the trails, scuba diving near sharks, sailing in storms, canoeing down croc infested rivers, white water rafting in class 5s, and living it up in Sydney for a day. I mean nothing terribly dangerous. And yes that is what I actually did.
|
that sounds awesome :D
|
The iPad app is pretty lame though... Also if I remember correctly on the iPad Mayor Calhan is a woman, but in the real game they refer to him as male.
|
It'd be awesome to be mayor of that metropolis....
|
Oh and it's Mayor Callaghan actually, my bad.
