Truth. (Or The Opinion Article For The Newspaper I Never Worked At)

I don't care if you don't have a clue of what I'm saying here; but I needed to let my mind talk.

---

Truth.

It sucks hard, few people dare to face it and fewer return from it without ignoring it or going mad. It's not fair, it's sickening and over everything else, it's true.

Because the main function of truth is merely descriptive, it relates our mindsets with reality and makes them fit in its schemes; so we can have a better understanding of our world; so we can replicate the graspable aspects of it in our minds and use those concepts, that knowledge, to face problems and help us comprehend what surrounds us.

But what happens when truth itself is the problem?

The answer is simple yet complicated -because few accept this problem: we live in a lie.

Put a mask over what you thought a minute ago was real: call it active social activities, call it Internet, call it beer, pot, masturbation, TV, money, cars, hot chicks, guns, iPods, God, work, leisure, movies, self-help books, video games, new clothing, new brands... Distractions, something to turn your heads from what you've got in front of you, something where to lay on for a minute and beg "Oh please, please; at least let me have this to rest! This is what I need, without it I won't withstand this situation anymore!".

This situation becomes all in all the only real thing you may have experienced by the end of your life. This situation is the truth. It is where you live, it is where you're putting your feet right now.

And this situation, after all, is what you let happen.

Oh yes, you, the guy reading the article. Why would I make such accusation? Because it's what I see. And I can see the cashflow.

You are part of this giant machine of money, you work day by day, through Monday to Friday to spend your effort in things you never needed but heck, you wanted; you think money may not bring happiness but how it helps actually. And eventually, you turn into a wealth vending machine which is filled every month of money you spend for the wealth of other machines.

With no money, none of all this wonderful progress would have been achieved. Who gave the people the credit and permission to do so?

It was you, with your indifference and your fear towards not buying an article or looking obsolete.

Now you try to remove part of the stress the truth, the real life produces you with a screen, with a good partner or a good lover, with some good fellas with whom you can go out and take beers until you fall drunk, with a dildo, with a sermon which may tranquilize your trembling soul, with a voyage to nowhere you make knowing you will have to return someday to the same hole.

Keep your distractions and ignore the message I am giving to you. You may misinterpret it, distort it to make it look heretic or wrong. But you know where I am coming from because you are putting your feet on the same mud I do.

And I ask you to don't just keep staring at the screen, and do something on it; because you know as well as I do that something here is plainly not working.

..What?

Why so pessimistic about everything?

Sure, we may buy things we don't need, we all do (do you REALLY need the computer you're using right now?) But we work to survive. Life is pretty damn hard. You can complain about it all you want, about all the lies, about all this "giant machine of money" crap, but at the end of the day, what have you accomplished? What do you hope to accomplish? Do you think the world is going to stop revolving around money, just because it's wrong? And is it really wrong? Face it, we've evolved past the way of living like the Na'vi. Adapt.

And to be fair, lots of people have jobs they love.

I have to ask, what exactly are you planning to do with YOUR life? Or what do you want to do?

Also, take fapping out of that list of social activities; that's still free.

If I may ask - what can I do, or what should I do? I'm not trying to sound cynical or rhetorical, I'm asking an honest question here - in what ways can I (or anyone else in this stated way of life) specifically remove myself from it?

First, it's an opinion article: I can feel however I want and express it however I need. Not that I am pessimistic, I just relate the part of reality that is tangible and that exists in this very moment. I have hope for the future, but we need a good plan and a common goal first of all. And that is hard to find, and I won't post here anything begging for help on it or show an imperfect and easy to criticize solution. Thus I post the pessimistic part of my thoughts, which is real, material and easy to see and understand.

Second, I know where I live, I know what I do and what I'm going to do with my life. I'm devoting my life to change this and work for a fairer world for everyone. Yes, cheap promises, but it's my main goal in life.

"Lots of people have jobs they love"? Perhaps you do...

Ah, and I'm not taking fapping out of the list.

I won't tell you what to do with your life or which plans to follow, and less to organize a whole new society. If you want to keep this going, then just go do it, you're free to. Just as free as you are to take my advice.

I'm not saying you must turn back to the woods, nor go and settle down in some extravagant and exotic place, either set up a revolution or join the hippies; but if I had to be honest, it's up to every single person who decides to not live like this anymore.

Money is a physical representation of work done. It allows people who do not want to wast their time acquiring basic necessities to do what they wish, and still be able to survive. Then those that do produce necessities, can use the same system to acquire things that they want, but do not have the time to create themselves.

Most professions in the world would not exist without it. Everybody would be a hunter gatherer, or farmer.

Boring world. I don't want to live there.

And as to truth, who's to say your the one who see's the truth? In my eyes, I'm right.

Self-righteousness is just human nature I guess. In your eyes, you're right. In Zenit's eyes, he's right. In my eyes, I'm right, etc. It's why I avoid things like moral universalism, because all it does is lead to fighting.

And that gave me a great idea for a new thread. *goes to debate section*

Truth is the correspondence between what you think and reality. If you think a car is red when it's actually red, you're right. If it's not, then you're wrong.

If you take as the reference for truth every single individual's thoughts, there is none.

If you take as a reference reality, there might be one we all agree on.

Never said you couldn't have an opinion.

Alright, and that's cool; do whatever makes you happy in life. :)
I'll just be over here in the real world. ;)

That's why I said "lots of people", and not "everyone."

Maybe this is the reason behind your negativity towards everything. Find a better job, man.

Don't tell me what I've got to do with my life. And second, I'm 16: my better job is 5 to 8 more years studying or dumping it all.

I really don't.

You don't know me, don't assume everyone is the same, has the same motivations, does the same things...
