a purring cat does not necessary mean that they are happy or content! The theory is that they purr to tell other cats and humans that they mean them no harm but this is yet to be proven!

Still Neytiri purring combined with face-rubbing that cats do would be cute. :)

Hell no.

First of all, although they have catlike features, let me point out that they're not cats, nor are they related. They don't purr, and if someone wants to bring up the whole hissing thing, humans(apes, really) make similar noises when angered.

Also, purring puts them damn close to furries, which I despise.

Neytiri draped her slender leg over her pitched hammock, her head bowed down her braided hair flowing in the subtle breeze. He neck, elegant and slender briefy kissed the warm air, she coiled up, purring softly to herself, the vibrations pulsating her hammock, swinging it gently side to side :P

I agree with devourment that purring is unrealistic. Would be cool though. That's why instead of Neytiri, I would prefer a more Cat-like Na'vi.

Soft fur...

Delicate whiskers...

Adorable fangs...

And, well, they could take care of themselves. My thought of an awesome Cat/Na'vi:
A slender Na'vi, with white skin and black stripes, coupled with fur looking like a sentient snow leopard, with white hair and claws. And of course, let's not forget the throat-ripping fangs. ;)

Word, lets not give people more reason to think they're furries.
