i don't see this 'block content' option...
and opera appears to be interfearing with my in-site searches...i type in a word, and it points me to a list of pictures with the word in the title. in firefox, i type in the same word, and it takes me to the article im looking for...

Fkeu 'Awpo 07-22-2010 03:13 AM

No man, you don't click on the ad. You click in an empty space on the page.

Then when you've got the block content thing open. THEN you click on the ads. Then you click 'Done".

I don't know what you mean by "in site searches" though, sorry.

@Eltu: Why do you think a "Block Content" button exists? Because people don't like ads.

Ads are there for a reason - they provide money for the people who run the site, and by doing so, makes the site (hopefully) last longer.

When I visit a site that I like, I even click the ads there now and then, to show my support for the site. I mean, it's not that hard - and as a web developer I know how much ads can mean for a website.

If I visit a site I don't like - well, then I don't visit the site, of course. No need to block ads on a site I don't like.

So... out of curiosity - why do you want to block ads?

I allow ads if they are REAONABLE... But I do not want to get 25 popups, ads that play audio (yes, seriously, keeps happening every time I use chrome on a few... specific sites :P ), any ads with flash (or indeed, flash in general, I prefer to whitelist flash objects), annoyingly animated ads, those 'YUOR PC HAS 2356423 ERROS CKLICK HERE TO INSTALL SPYWARE FIX THEM' fake error messages or adverts associated with domains that are fairly suspicious privacy wise. If a site keeps those off, then I'm fine. Things like adsense I really don't mind (when using a FIREFOX extension that anonymises my google cookie, that is :P )

But banners, ads on the webpages, etc - there is no reason to block those...

I have no experience with opera's popup blocker, but I have never had one get through firefox's, while IE's and chrome's are both fairly bad.

Read what I said above. Banners will still be blocked if they are animated, flash (especially those stupid ****ing expanding ones!!). Ideally, if everywhere had clean adsense style text ads, I wouldn't need to block any ads.

Lyra 07-28-2010 04:47 PM

There is a reason to block banners on sites. There's plenty of malicious ad exploits out there, and most are by ads.

haha Joke, I made myself look like a retard :P.

If you run NoScript and FF has a popup blocker, you can get by easily. I click ads on my favourite sites, and sites I want to stay up. Other sites I stay away from and forbid them on NoScript.

Marley 08-04-2010 11:28 PM

Chrome was made by Chuck Norris, soooo..... Read into that what you will. xD

And Chrome also has an adblocker, yay. :)

Human No More 08-05-2010 11:49 PM

But no flash/script blocker AFAIK.

SaphirJD 12-09-2010 06:32 PM

I vote for Firefox :D

Eltu 12-09-2010 06:35 PM

Oh, and for everyone who won't use Opera because of its lack of extensions...

It now has an extension feature. :P

Nothing I really use myself, since I already got everything I need, but... it's there ;)

Fosus 12-11-2010 02:45 PM

I'm using Chromium but I can't understand why they decided to write the linux interface in GTK (=bigger and buggier). I might swap to rekonq once it gets the support for extensions.

Sight Unseen 12-11-2010 10:21 PM

I'm partial to a certain browser. It uses 500k of ram max, runs on everything from rhel to opie to windows 7, is faster than Opera, blocks ALL popups/unders and makes you look like a 1337 ninja when you use it.

This awesome browser is lynx. :D

tallbluewanderer 12-13-2010 03:47 AM

Lynx is too bloated -- what do you need an HTML parser for?! Netcat's where it's at:
% echo -e 'GET /url HTTP/1.0\n\n' | nc example.com 80
(Newbie users may add in more or -- if absolutely necessary -- less as needed.) :P

Txum_kali'weya 12-13-2010 04:56 AM

Firefox.
Never seen anything as good as it, and if you don't want an add-on, don't download it.

Earthlover18 12-13-2010 06:26 AM

I changed from IE8 to Firefox recently and all I can say is... wow, why didn't I change before now? It is a lot faster for me, is waaay more customizable with add ons and extensions, and just all around is way better for me.

Layzie 12-13-2010 07:22 AM

I use Internet Explorer. But personally, I don't care about which is better. I just browse websites and not much more. I don't care about features or anything like that.

It's not about customization, its about safety and speed. IE has neither.

Human No More 12-14-2010 01:34 AM

To be fair, IE's speed is improving, although security and safety are still lagging behind. It still has the worst addon support of any browser (although it does still have more builtin functionality than chrome :P ).

Советский меч 12-14-2010 03:50 AM

IE ftw! yea I dont really care either way.

Советский меч 12-15-2010 04:47 AM

ELTU! I just downloaded opera and and... well Its AMAZING!

Whats better? As a person coming from IE everything seems 'even' better.

OMGOMGOMGOMG

...who cares!? :D

Советский меч 12-16-2010 02:13 AM

People who prefer their internet to move fast.

Human No More 12-16-2010 07:15 PM

Firefox is better. You'll probably like it too since it's open source, as opposed to proprietary :P

Well, as a Chrome user.. I recommend Chrome. It does everything Firefox does with a better interface and speed.

Opera is quite good too. I was Opera user few years ago but moved to firefox and later, Chrome which I'm using atm.

Eltu 12-17-2010 03:40 PM

Opera has become MUCH better the recent years.

Opera 11 got released just a few days ago, and it's better than ever. You should try it out, Fosus ;)

Save/load sessions?
drop down search selection?
control over page rendering settings?
DownThemAll?
geoIP of servers?
HTTP header viewer?
Screencap pages?
Spoof user agent?
Greasemonkey script support?

a menu bar?
an RSS reader? :P

:P
Chrome is missing way too much to be a useful browser.

Chrome does almost every one of those except for the user interface elements (Ofc they have different interfaces:P) I'm too bored to shoot back at you with a list of Chrome features that Firefox lags. And I'm not against Firefox anyway. I just always move on to better browser once I find one.. ;)

EDIT: I'll take a look at the new Opera. at least it's not done in ****ty GTK+ like Chrome...
EDIT2: Meh.. scrolling lags like mad in Neytiri HD pic thread. Thanks but no thanks Opera :(

Советский меч 12-17-2010 10:39 PM

In most speed tests chrome beats firefox. But thats about all it beats.

Nice. Copying older posts. Real original man.

Fosus 05-01-2011 04:24 PM

Guess who's back to using Firefox? *points at self*

Scrolling picthreads and FB in Chrome lags worse than my brain. So **** you Chrome. It has only gotten worse each new version.

Firefox almost drove me nuts already but at least I can scroll the pages. The interface is also much better than it used to be, though I still don't understand the idea of separate searchbox.
