'Ode to Neytiri' And Other Neytiri-Poems By Me.

Hello everybody. :) It was suggested that I create a thread for my Neytiri-poems, so here it is!

This is the first poem I wrote after seeing AVATAR. It was offered to all the people who love Neytiri, whom I referred to as the Neytiri clan. I hope you like it.

Ode to Neytiri

And now we meet on moonlet fair,
As magical creatures fill the air.
In blue skin clad and elegant face
You pull me close in love’s embrace.

Your flashing eyes, twin sun-orbs bright
And sparkling skin, ‘neath pale moonlight
Remove all fears of perilous height
And guide love’s fierce and tender night.

Your joyous laugh and playful way
Is pure delight ‘neath Hometree’s day.
No greater love has any known
Than what, to me, your heart has shown.

On Toruk wings by day we soar
O’er sparkling lake and gold-flecked shore
And mountains high and verdant land
We see together, hand in hand.

And here you lie all veiled in night
With warrior’s soul and heart-felt might.
‘Neath silver stars and Eywa’s grace,
No higher joy than your embrace.

No greater love can ever be…
I see you, and you see me.
And now—oh, azure goddess fair,
Wrapped in strands of angel’s hair
I sing my love and joy to thee
My sweet and beautiful, Neytiri.

I thought I'd try a different poetic style for this next tribute to Neytiri.

This is for you, the People of the Netyiri clan. I hope you like it.

Daydreaming of Neytiri

Each day when I awake and gaze
toward the east—
With rested mind and open heart,
I’ll see your radiant face
In the sparkle of the morning sun.

I’ll touch a moist blade of grass to my cheek,
And in the cool wetness of each pearly
drop of dew,
I’ll know of a tear you once shed—
Or a love you once knew.

Whenever I see a rose,
With its delicate loveliness—
I’ll see you dancing amid
Pandora’s flowers fair,
Graced with an innocent beauty which,
Unlike the rose,
Will never fade.

I’ll hear your playful laughter in the gentle
Cascade of a bubbling brook;
And when cool evening breezes whisper
Softly through the trees
I’ll hear you sigh, and feel
the distant beating of ikran wings.

A sapphire sea, with its calm, clear
Immensity,
Will speak of the endless capacity
Of your pure and noble heart.
And the waters beneath will hint at
The myriad wonders swirling
In the depths of your warrior’s soul.

When soft clouds above me drift,
I’ll know the smooth, silken softness of
Your luminous azure skin—
And the gentle warmth of your fierce
And loving embrace.

And in the fresh stillness of a pristine night,
when ivory stars wink into view—
I’ll know the twinkle of your
Honey-drenched eyes—
Eyes like twin suns blazing,
Beckoning me to depths
I cannot fathom.

And perhaps then, Neytiri—
Sweet and beautiful Neytiri—
I’ll learn what it means to love,
from the one who has loved me,
and taught me how to live.

Here is another poetic offering to you, the members of the Neytiri clan. I hope you like it.

Walk Gently On My Dreams

You weave your magical spell
On the unpracticed loom of my heart.
Arachne herself could not match
The splendor of your pristine art.

It forms a coverlet finer than silk,
And shines
like atokirina strands,
Aloft in the bioluminescent night—
Caught in the wake of ebullient light
Cast by Polyphemus, bright.

You wrap it ‘round my shoulders
Softly, silkenly…
With strong and gentle arms—
Like gossamer wings
Enfolding me,
Protecting me from harm.

With trembling hands
And novice’s skill
I’ll weave my dreams for thee.
But I cannot hope to match the wonder
Of you, my shimmering reverie.

For you are beyond the span of this world
And the warp and weft of my soul.
I can but spin my heart’s desire
And pray I reach my goal.

I’ll weave my dreams for you, my love,
And spread them at your feet.
But this alone I ask of you,
Neytiri, my sweet:

However unwrought these fabrics appear;
However unseemly these cloths may seem—
Walk gently on them, my fierce true love,
For you are walking
On my dreams….

I wrote the main part of this poem several years ago, and to no one in particular. It has lain fallow most of that time—occasionally being trotted out to share with a friend. I thought of it recently and realized I had finally found an object worthy of the sentiment.

As always, it's for you, the members of the Neytiri clan. I hope you enjoy it. It’s been Neytiri-fied (yes, that is a word… now) for your reading pleasure.

I Knew You, Neytiri

When I was but a fetus
Waiting
To once again taste the breath of life,
No thought, thought I—
Yet even then,
With an awareness I cannot comprehend,
I knew you….

A warrior of old,
I fought the good fight.
And when the battle was ended
And the enemy vanquished,
My thoughts turned homeward
To my lady, my life—
For even then,
Amid the turmoil and strife,
I knew you….

A turquoise sky
In a world during it’s youth
Was the coverlet we shared,
As we dreamed soft dreams
Under autumn skies,
And danced in the sun
In some primitive guise.
Oh, I knew you….

On a distant world,
In a forgotten time—
You and I gazed at two silvery moons
As we walked on a halcyon beach,
Hand in hand,
And spoke of our love on the cool, blue sand.
Yes, I knew you…

When time was not,
And the universe but a dream—
My soul touched yours
And life began.
The stars were born out of our love’s fire
And eternity echoed our joy and desire.
For even then, Neytiri…
Even then, my fiercely beautiful love—
I knew you….

Neytiri_Quest 03-17-2010 03:10 PM

I thought I'd try a more lyrical rhyme scheme for this latest poetic offering to you, the Neytiri clan. I hope you like it. :)

Awakening to Neytiri

I
With elven ears and catlike nose
And voice as sweet as song;
Pandoran maiden, heavy-laden,
Lovely, good, and strong.

Two citrine eyes, like lemon drops
Set into beauteous face,
And azure, pale—a feline tail!
Epitome of grace.

I’ll sing your praise, Neytiri fair,
And laud your noble way.
Your warrior’s soul I will extol
Each minute of the day.

Your hearty laugh and playful mien
Is such a fine delight!
Your loving smile, all the while
Sustains me through my plight.

II
And when my daily work is done,
And I lay down to rest—
As I am dreaming, I’ll be seeming
Absolutely blessed.

For once again I’ll see your face
Through Morpheus’ gift;
On ikran wings, we’ll see such things…
And set our souls adrift.

For you are always with me, love
In waking state or dream.
And I can feel that you are real,
Though crazy I may seem.

And when my earthly life is done
And day goes down to dark;
I’ll fill my sails, and pierce the Veil
And to your side embark.

III
For life is but a beauteous dream—
No limits need be taken;
And from this life, with all it’s strife,
We two shall both awaken.

And when we reach the Journey’s end,
And music fills our ears…
At that time, with love sublime
I’ll bless you with my tears.

And into Eywa’s realm we’ll step
And sail to silver shore.
We’ll cross that sea, my Neytiri…
And live forevermore.

I had to look up at the dictionary many times before I understood your poems but they are more than worth the effort. If there is a Neytiri clan out there you're the leader of it(I couldn't find the right colour:D)

You're welcome and I'm delighted. I'm a swooner for love poetry, when I took my english 100 course, the proffessor was getting ready to publish his poetry which happend to be love poems and he would read one every class, and well yeah ever since I swoon. :) But its also because of the beauty of your heart in speaking your love for Neytiri, there is such a tenderness there and that speaks even more than the words.

Thanks for the nice words, Noldorin. And I'm honored that you would take the time, not only to read them all, but to look up words whose meaning you weren't certain of in order to better understand the poems. That's quite a compliment! :)

Also, the Neytiri clan is just a name I came up with one day in the A-F forum to describe people who love Neytiri and all of her beautiful qualities and characteristics. So in that sense, I guess you could say I'm the leader of it. ;) Anyone who embraces Neytiri as the summit of female perfection is automatically a member, though. :)

Thanks so much Human No More. I really appreciate all the kind words. Writing these poems (and the Commentaries) does the same thing for me. Yet, somehow, I feel better in doing so. It's as though I'm actively doing something with those feelings of love, and beauty, and wonder. And this makes me feel more whole and balanced inside.

Neytiri: To Sylwanin, Dying Young

This is a slight departure from my normal Neytiri-poems. I started to write one, then got an incredible surge of emotions surrounding her older sister, Sylwanin, who was at Grace's school along with Neytiri.

Sylwanin is never seen in AVATAR (other than in a couple of pictures tacked up at the remote site), and there’s only a couple of paragraphs about her in the script. She and a couple of other young Na’vi set fire to a bulldozer in an attempt to stop the cross-cutting in the forest and were followed back to Grace’s school by RDA soldiers. They killed Sylwanin right in front of the young Neytiri.

The poem takes place years before Jake’s arrival on Pandora. And it’s written from Neytiri’s point of view, shortly after her sister’s death.

As always, it’s for you, the Neytiri clan. I hope you like it.

Neytiri: To Sylwanin, Dying Young

In the somber silence of my inner self,
When mind and spirit have slipped their chains;
I’ll see your face before me shine,
And try to rise above my pains.

Sylwanin, dear, I loved you so!
As only a younger sister could—
But then the Terran monsters came
And took your life, near where I stood.

No more will we two—side by side—
Run Through verdant forests, green;
No more your smiling face I’ll see,
‘Neath bioluminescent sheen.

You tried to stop their rampant ways—
Killing our trees, spoiling our land;
But all they know are guns and lies,
And now you’re dead by their cruel hand!

No longer can I hope to show
The love I’ve always felt for you;
Or learn from you to string a bow,
Or how to drink the morning’s dew.

I tried to stop them—grabbed one’s arm,
And flung him down with warrior’s cry;
But then I fell and knew no more,
And woke with wound beneath my eye.

So many things I could have learned,
So many games we might have played!
But now you lie in shallow grave—
cold and still as my knife’s blade.

Your precious soul, from out the grasp
Of sand and foam did slip away!
And now in Eywa’s arms you rest,
Awakened to a brighter day.

Yet still can I, amid the gloom
That seeks to bind me to this place,
Recall the joy and love I’ve known
Since first I saw your radiant face.

A single atokirina drifts
To light upon your solemn brow;
I place a flower at your feet
Hoping to understand, somehow.

Perhaps one day someone will come
And soothe my anger and my fears;
But ‘til that time, oh sister…
Oh, Sylwanin, my beautiful sister, dear—
I am too empty, even for tears….

Yes, these are all great poems. One thing I like about them is that they are all upbeat. although some are sad and melancolic, they also talk about beauty and love.

I like "Awakening to Neytiri" for its happy and lyrical style. I like "I knew You, Neytiri" because it reflects the way most of feel about her.

The Sylwanin poem is also very beautiful. Although it is melancolic in tone it is actually quite an upbeat poem because it remembers the good things about the person who is lost, and reflects the deep emotion that Neytiri undoubtedly has in her soul.

Thanks, neytirifanboy. :) Since Neytiri's life isn't always a bed of roses, I didn't want the poems to omit the powerful undercurrent of sadness and depression running through it. At the same time, I wanted the eternal optimism and joy in life she always seems willing to choose to come through.

As usual, your comments are insightful and well-considered. You are one of only a small handful of people who have understood that each of the poems is designed to show a different aspect of Neytiri (Tawtsamsiyu is another, and sadly he's been absent from the forums for a few weeks). As such, each of the 6 poems has a different style, tone, and atmosphere. This was also my goal in each of the 6 Commentaries.

Neytiri is like a diamond with many facets (as you well know...), and as such has an inexhaustible fascination for many of us. I think of her as our Hope Diamond--large, beautiful, enchanting, and Navi-blue.

Again, thanks for your comments.

in honour of Sylvanin

Thank you for guiding me to this thread, Neytiri_Quest. The last poem, "Neytiri to Sylvanin", has brought tears to my eyes :'( I am a big sister, for my two blood sisters & dozens of soul sisters/brothers around the world, so this love, "as only young sister could", is a new facet of the Blue Diamond for me.

Here's a dream about Sylvanin, in her honour:

I was a Na'vi girl & was talking to Sylvanin. She was "within Eywa" so I was seeing her a bit above and on the background of pure light, I couldn't make out anything else. She was talking, rather enthusiastically, about "the way" - in the sense to get somewhere, but also the way of living. I was understanding everything perfectly in the dream, & it seemed a great idea, but now I can't remember :) but no worries, it is surely stored somewhere in the subconscious & will surface when time is right. The last thing she said before going: "Do you want to keep bow & arrows, or shall I take them?" I answered that it seemed that her part of the job was more "theoretical" & mine, more "practical", so it would be right if I keep a material object. "And you, since you see so well and so far from above - just tell me where to shoot!" :D She laughed & disappeared into the light. :shy: her presence always fills me with love.

Neytiri_Quest 05-13-2011 11:09 PM

Thank you for the kind words, apache_blanca. :) I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. And your dream was amazing. I'll keep this short, since I practically wrote a mini-commentary to your response on the 'Why We Love Neytiri' commentary thread! :)

it was beautiful, I've just read it :) you say so many things that I could be saying myself :) telepathy? ;)

About big sisters - and coincidences... We started with Neytiri-Sylvanin, right, I mentioned I am a big sister, too. I read your Part VI (?) where you mention Sylvanin the day before yesterday. Well yesterday I got a letter from a guy in prison I am penpalling with (thru an NGO, he entered at 17 & now is 34 ) - and in his letter he tells me about his big sister almost in terms you talk about Neytiri - all the myriad facets she represents, in short his big sister meant the whole world to him (I couldn't stop thinking about your commentary while reading the letter, then I went back to the thread to check it again - as you see the events are developing in the space of two days). And when his big sister died - his world collapsed. But also, a strange coincidence happened on the day of her death, it seems she gave him a sign "from Eywa" so the guy is asking me (being the only person whom he can talk about "this stuff" to) what I think... wellllllllllllllll I am thinking about the speech "They live! In Eywa!" (Eywa, please help me to find the right words... thank you Mother I know you've heard me).

The guy had no chance to see Avatar (!!!!!!!!!!!!) & doesn't know anything about Neytiri or Sylvanin, but I'll look thru your thread & see if I can print out something he can "click" with... I see he has a precious soul, I don't know what stupidity he did 17 years ago, but he wants to become a better person & is looking for answers, definitely (like reading all the self-help books he can get). It's enough for me to adopt him as a "younger brother" - yet another one! :D

So... Big Sisters are definitely the theme of the day! at least for me ;)

Neytiri_Quest 05-14-2011 05:24 PM

That was a great story, apache_blanca. :) And it seems many 'coincidences' are lining up in support of the work you are doing. You are using the insights and experiences gained from AVATAR and applying them to the benefit and balm of others--a rare and commendable gift! I applaud you. And feel free to use any of my poems or commentaries to assist you in your work.

Human No More 05-14-2011 07:18 PM

That is a sad story :(, but you are doing a great thing. Also, sounds like an a amazing dream.

apache_blanca 05-15-2011 02:58 PM

Sylwanin to Neytiri

irayo, ma Na'vi-ya :) I know that "this cause is worth fighting for" but encouragement and thanks always feel nice :shy:

I am becoming a frequent guest on this thread... but I love it!

I have a letter from "Johnny-the-younger-brother-from-a-Department-of-Corrections" (corrections??? what a joke) right here, & was thinking to reply... but first I feel like writing something about Sylwanin trying to talk to Neytiri "from Eywa". I had this vision yesterday, during a foot massage session - it is very soft: soft movement, soft light, soft music, so it is easy to go trancy. Here it is:

When Sylwanin died, & left the body, she felt very angry, & also guilty for not being able to stop the "Terran monsters" no matter how she tried. When she saw how devastated Neytiri was, she felt even worse, & more guilty - for having died so young & leaving her small sister alone. But she was already within Eywa, & realized that there was a purpose in her passing: Eywa had a plan for Neytiri to become a Tsahik cos many things were going to change, & although Omatikaya had their rules on who becomes a Tsahik, Eywa deemed it should be different that time. And Sylwanin was to help Neytiri from above, like a big sister. Only when Sylwanin left she realized just HOW much they loved each other, & would slap herself, if she could, for not having said it earlier. Having discovered this, Sylwanin tried to whisper in Neytiri’s ear: “I live, & I love you! You have a big purpose, everything will come out fine!” But Neytiri was so grief-stricken that couldn’t hear. Sylwanin tried to access into her dreams, and in dreams it was wonderful to be together again – but when Neytiri would wake up, she would cry wishing she never woke up at all. Sylwanin was worrying more and more: on the surface, Neytiri was a perfect clan member, but “a black hole” in her chest was growing, & nothing seemed to fill it. She wouldn’t talk about her hurt to anybody either: such a tough cookie, this girl! Sylwanin didn’t know what to do, so she spoke with other ancestors. They listened very attentively, and responded that yes, it was very difficult for the living accept the departure of a loved one. Of course all the Na’vi knew that those who go, go to Eywa, & it’s easier for them to “cross the threshold” thru special rituals releasing the spirit. But for those who stay behind, it is so hard to accept the sheer physical absence! They understood the situation, & the predicament of both sisters very well, & suggested to Sylwanin to talk to Neytiri thru the Tree of Souls. Sylwanin concentrated all her will-power & love, & planted the image of the Tree of Souls in Neytiri’s mind; whatever she was doing, this image kept coming to her, until she decided to go & find out. She sneaked out while everybody was sleeping & headed there. Sylwanin was anxiously looking from above: will she? Is it possible to finally talk? Just in case, she sent an atokirina, who appeared in front of Neytiri & flew ahead, & then, in the depths of depression, a light suddenly shone for her: “It’s my sister! How come I haven’t thought of Tree of Souls before??” She started running faster & faster, so fast that when she arrived, she tripped over something & had the Tree of Souls fibers in her face, & her cue connected to them on its own - & finally Sylwanin could pour all her love on Neytiri’s head! They were crying and laughing at the same time, remembering the pranks they used to pull, & talking about how they cherished each other – things that they were not voicing too much while Sylwanin was alive cos “it went without saying”, but now it seemed a perfect moment to say them out loud. Then Sylwanin grew serious & said: “Sister, I went away so that you would become a Tsahik. Don’t argue: it’s Eywa’s purpose. Learn well, pay attention to signs. Things will change, & a lot, & you’re going to play a big part in this change... There will be a newcomer... he is important... but I don’t see anything further. Learn well, ok? I shall help you as I can”. Neytiri realized that she was going, and was like: “Oh, please, stay, sister! I so love being with you!” To which Sylwanin answered: “ I love you too, & always shall! & you know where to find me!” and poured more love thru the tsaheylu, until Neytiri started smiling again, then she left assured.
When she got up the next morning, Mo’at was pleasantly surprised to see the hidden light in Neytiri’s eyes. Something happened, something good. She didn’t want to insist, but was relieved to see the smile on her daughter’s face again.
.......................
In fact, I tried to make it a poem :shy:but i couldn’t get anywhere. Obviously, my talent lies in different areas...
However, if you, Neytiri_Quest, like this story, & want to transform it into a poem... you have the green light from me! :D

I am becoming a frequent guest on this thread... but I love it!

In fact, I tried to make it a poem :shy:but i couldn’t get anywhere. Obviously, my talent lies in different areas...
However, if you, Neytiri_Quest, like this story, & want to transform it into a poem... you have the green light from me! :D

I enjoyed your Sylwanin story, apache_blanca. That was very nice, and had some rich imagery :)

I am uncertain where the poetry muse will guide me next. Another poem about Sylwanin would be fine with me, though. :)

thanks :) in fact my heart wish was to post something like this on Community support thread - I saw 3 threads in the last month from people who lost somebody dear. But i am unsure about the response on the public thread so I limit myself to "hope they are fine within Eywa" :( :)

haha muses are like this! you never know with them... but - whatever comes out, just go with the flow & it will be fine! We'll sure enjoy it :)

I am back :) maybe I should be sorry for posting one after another? Well, in fact I am not sorry - but tell me if you mind :)

I just wanted to say (after pondering for sometime) that I am pleasantly surprised to find romantic & capable of "fierce love" men on this thread! wow, you love poetry & even write it... that's of course only one facet of feeling & expressing love... I thought your race was extinct & you moved on to different worlds/dimensions...

But hey, live & learn, I see a hope for the world here ;):shy: pity I seem to be the only woman on this thread - but thumbs up to you guys, never let this light go out!

(PS to Neytiri_Quest: I loved "I Knew You Neytiri" probably most, altho all are beautiful & unique - like there are no identical flowers, each is beautiful it's own way. But this one makes many bells ring, one bell is "Only Love Is For Real" by Brian Weiss (a super-serious psychiatrist turned PLT guru) - that's it! the love beyond time and space... it meant the whole world to me... THANKS)

The people are always there, sometimes you just need to look hard :) - in those cases, people can easily be used to hiding their true feelings, I know that all too well myself.

yeah... this ^^^^ is the theme of this month: do I really See people around me?:shy: I got some surprises recently (like, my driving instructor happened to be an Avatar fan, too - I would have never imagined it! She didn't know about the forums  & since she doesn't speak English I sent her to AvatarSpainForo, hope she finds her clan there ;) i feel she has none in RL...

I know it too well, too, & you know what - I daresay in many cases relationships would be easier if people said what they felt! both ways, whether it's nice, or not so. It's better to know the truth - & to be able to face it, too. "What does your heart tell you?"

Hi apache_blanca. It's always nice having women on this thread. And there are plenty of men capable of "fierce love"; many of them are just afraid to admit or express it. I'm glad you enjoyed the poems, especially "I Knew You Neytiri". And I appreciate the nice words. I'm glad the poem meant something to you. :)

kalTXi Neytiri_Quest! It's been a while... :)
Remember our talk about Big Sisters, & my "adopted brother"? Well I did sent him your Neytiri to Sylwanin poem + my Sylwanin to Neytiri + Avatar plot... Here's the feedback :)
(the only thing, he thought that I was the author! :D haha I explained him that I wasn't but every time he says "you" he means you (Neytiri_Quest) of course...)
Here it goes:
"The poem was beyond amazing. You are very skilled at what you do. I am utterly surprised you haven't written a book, a movie, and/or something along those lines. Or have you?... I would definitely be your No.1 fan!... You captured some emotion in your poem that resembled what I felt when my sister passed away. It was therapeutic to read, so I've read it several times. (THANK YOU!!!)"
:)

Thank you for passing along the words of your "adopted brother", apache_blanca. I'm glad the Sylwanin poem was so meaningful for him. :)
