Great Sci-fi director, but i dont exactly think it would be my favorite movie, definately top 5 though =)

Well only two movies have actually managed to touch me. AVATAR and Titanic. Coincidence? I doubt it :D

I loved and I still love almost every single film that JC has directed (I admit, I'm not a so big fan of Titanic.. but it's still a good movie). In any case, Avatar is without any doubt his masterpiece!

Agreed, JC does deserve his own thread, after all, he brought me films like Aliens, The Abyss and of course umm... that other one beginning with "A"... I forget...

Anyway, an excellent director, he deserves the utmost respect and acknowledgement. Well done JC.

I was just reading an article on the new Predators film - link - & there's a bit in it that supports JC's awesomeness that little bit more -

Quote:

4. James Cameron had a hand in the original Predator design

So the story goes, Stan Winston was showing the original design for the Predator head to James Cameron. The then only moderately successful so-and-so that was Cameron told him that the Predator should have a mouth that opened wide. Robert Rodriguez confirmed this with Cameron recently, solidifying Avatar-man’s role in Predator lore.

Whilst I respect Titanic, it is a travesty he had to win his oscars over that rather than such films as aliens and terminator, vastly superior and intelligent pieces of film making.

AA hates sci-fi.

Thats a bit too far xD That's Gods job ;)

Hahaha I like the pic!

Something I found impressive about his stance toward the movie is that he wasn't doing it for money (This is debatable, however that's my interpretation of it) because he made enough from Titanic to live off of. He really worked to tell his story and bring this amazing vision about, and I'm so very thankful for that!

WHAT?!! You have to see it bro. Get some popcorn and a good drink. You will enjoy the movie, that's a promise.

I hadn't seen Titanic either until i saw Avatar and decided to watch JC's other movies as well. I think Titanic is a good movie too, it made me cry like fountains. It was a beautiful movie but.. that's it. It didn't affect me like Avatar did and that seems to be what I expect movies to do now :D

Exactly.

Star wars should won one

E.T should have won one - the winner that year said he felt E.T had been robbed in his speech right after getting his oscar...

The closest we ever got to a Sci-Fi Oscar for best picture was Lotr and even that took three tries.....

Really, the oscars mean nothing. They have such a blatant agenda, it's amazing anything good has ever won, at all.

Ofc it means something - however i agree that the winner doesnt make it the best movie etc. And that is not because Avatar didnt win - it is because the voters pool and such are taken up by an uneven amount of people who have different interests when it comes to voting for a winner.
It's a popularity contest, where more often than not the winner is a patriotic confirmation of american values and such...

Boy this would be so much easier in danish :)
