Is there an Avatar novel???

Is there any news anywhere of a novelization of the movie? I would not be the only one interested in reading it. Cameron could put in the entire story that was in his head, with all the left out scenes that never made it to the screen, as well as any backstory that he had in mind.
I would buy that to put it in my collection of books. (I bought two of the Star Wars movie novels, but that was it.)

I don't think there's a movie novelization, however I do beleive Cameron's writing a prequel of sorts.

Empty Glass 08-02-2010 05:23 PM

I'd love to hear more news on the prequel novel, but it feels like it's been awhile since I last heard anything about it.

There isn't... I want one though :)

As for the prequel... yeah, no news at all so far... :(

At least we have the script and Project 880 (the latter I haven't read, btw).

Patrice Maire 08-03-2010 05:46 AM

What's this 'we' stuff? I don't have the script! I have no idea what Project 880 is either! I am so out of the loop! ::sigh::
Besides, I don't like reading scripts. I prefer the book version because you can describe so much more of what the person is thinking and the actions that are happening.
Maybe a photographic novel version with scenes from the movie...

There is a kids novel but for a comprehnsive novel... there is none

Project 880 is basically the earliest written outline of Avatar's story. There are quite a few differences between it and the movie. I haven't read all of Project 880, nor have I read many movie scripts, but what I have read seems very detailed to me. You can check it all out here. :)

MarketSaw - 3D Movies, Gaming and Technology: EXCLUSIVE: James Cameron Interview! Talks AVATAR Re-release, Sequels, 3D Conversions & Working With Del Toro!

In the interview he says end of 2010 or first quarter 2011

Empty Glass 08-07-2010 06:16 PM

^That's what I like to hear

Patrice Maire 08-08-2010 04:19 AM

I KNEW there had to be one soon! I was just ahead of the curve! It will be the first book I've bought that doesn't have to do with my hobbies in almost ten years.
I really don't have that much time to read anymore...blasted computer! hehehehe
Going to go check B&N and Amazon....
Oh wait, I bought a McCaffrey Pern novel last year but never finished it.

Here's the quote from his interview"

"But really, what I'm working on primarily is the novel. I never had a chance to get the novel done while we were making the movie, and I always intended to. I didn't want to do a cheesy novelization, where some hack comes in and kind of makes sh-- up. I wanted to do something that was a legitimate novel that was inside the characters' heads and didn't have the wrong culture stuff, the wrong language stuff, all that."

Cameron went on to say that the novel will serve as a "bible" for other writers to come in and riff on for their own "Avatar"-based stories.

YAY!
This is so much win it's phenomenal for us writer types that want to create in his universe.

Empty Glass 08-08-2010 08:48 AM

I'm really glad to hear how much he cares about the integrity of his universe, and how he wants to iron out important things before someone else does. This will be high-quality stuff.

And for me, this will probably be the first book I'll have read for pleasure in a long time...darn college texts.

When and if these books come out i don't think i'd read them :/ i don't want to spoil the story for myself and sit during Avatar 2 and constantly say "That's not in the book....That's not in the book..."

Loverofnature 11-19-2010 02:06 PM

well, he's writing a Prequel, not a sequel :P big difference :P
