ecosia

Anyone here who hasn't heard of Ecosia yet?

Wow... to be honest, that's not much of an idea, really. Since its advertizement to the public isn't apparent to the majority of people, not many will use it. If hardly anyone uses it, there's no point, really. I've never heard of it, but now since I have, I'll probably never use it because its results aren't as good or relevant as Google's. Plus there's the big question surrounding its legitimacy, whether it's a scam or not.

You've been promoting that in a few other threads... You profiting from this? :P

Never heard of it...

Fkeu awpo: I am not, honest. In fact I think I heard of it AF. Or not. But the reason I bring it up is, while it's really not much at all, I would like to do something.

Woodsprite: I sincerely hope not! What motive could they possibly have for faking something like this?

Well that's just ridiculous being that they have the "more searches" option, most of which are google options.

Look under their "how it works" link.

It says

"...backed by Yahoo, Bing..."

"Yahoo and Bing not only help us to provide excellent search results; they also supply us with the sponsored links that we need to generate advertising revenue."

Geemeek.

If I ever need a more relevant result, I just use the "more searches" option to do a search on google.

How can it be a scam if you don't have to pay for it? They get money from sponsored links, not the users.

Yeah, it says that. But if they were trying to "hit" google, why would they make google the majority of the alternate search options?

Also, WTF are people so suspicious of this? It costs nothing to use. I have never had a problem with it. If I decide I need more relevant search results, I just use the google option. But it may or may not actually be saving forests, so I'm not going to use it, just to be safe. Yeah, that makes sense

It draws users away from google, cutting into their income base.

josie20 08-14-2010 04:53 PM

I'm still going to use it. Besides, I don't think google needs whatever money they may get from my searches(which wouldn't be much, anyway)

Isard 08-14-2010 04:55 PM

mkay, just know that its another companies way of making money.
