Why (I think) Transformers 2 sucked

Obviously this is debateable.

I'm going to take a little jab at the movie because I feel it was Michael Bay's worst ever creation and my disappointment in his newest film is only amplified by how good Transformers 1 was.

1). Poorly written script.

Why this managed to escape the public's eye puzzles me. At least with Avatar the story was logical and actually made sense but with Revenge of the Fallen there were flaws at the very core of the plot.

Instead listing a load of mistakes Im going to explain one, very obvious flaw in the movie.

The Decepticons want to destroy the Sun by activating this badass machine at the top of a pyramid which would make our star go supernova and the baddies get an energy called "Energon". One problem though: Blowing up the Sun when still in the Solar System is the most epic way of committing suicide. The Decepticons have to activate the machine on Earth to save them which, in turn, completely obliterates them. This seems to me the biggest flaw in the movie. But I guess you wouldn't notice by Michael Bay's trademark explosions.

2). New Autobots - who the eff are they??

Apart from the two rather annoying, racist-undertoned Autobots (which were humerous the first time round), who are the rest of the Autobots? We know the original four but I can't for the life of me remember the new members. How much of the script were they actually in and did they even speak for longer than 30 seconds in the movie? The last 30 seconds of the first movie was Optimus Prime asking for help and in return, he got s*it all.

3). Decepticons - WTF?!

The giant Decepticon had testicles and the tiny toy robot humped Megan Fox. Do I need to say more? Or do I have to ask why one robot has a libido and why another one has reproductive systems? Im all for comedy but it was a tad bit too far. Also "The Fallen" said only a Prime could defeat him yet Megatron took Optimus out. Think about it, that means Megatron could take out "The Fallen". Plot flaw much?

Remember the scorpion robot in the first film? I thought that was the most badass robot I ever saw. I also liked the way it survived. It should've return with a bigger part in the second film but instead it shoots out of the ground into Optimus' over-armed hands when it's destroyed as quickly as it returned.

Also "Jetfire" or whatever has a British accent. Why? I know Autobots and whatnot used human accents for their speech but this Decepticon was around for thousands of years.

4). Why are humans still using bullets when bullets don't work?

In the final scene of the movie humans are defending themselves with machine guns. I thought the first movie set out very clear that bullets don't work on the Decepticons but for a good half hour we see humans pointlessly firing automatics when the Decepticons barely feel a sting.

5.) Megan Fox plays no purpose other than eye candy

At least in the first movie she contributed to defeating the Decepticons but in this one she just follows Sam around and making sure she's in-camera.

There's one thing about the second film that I liked though:

Only kidding ;)

Here's what I thought was the most awesome thing in the movie:

Hmm, I have only seen the first Transformers movie.

Do you think this one is worth buying at all, or *completely* worthless?

(I liked the first one)

Dreaming Of Pandora 08-26-2010 07:26 PM

I loved the first one, I even bought it twice just so I could have one on Blu-ray. You can't even take its sequel seriously. But it's up to you to decide whether you like it or not.

My recommendation is watch it online. Don't waste your money.

I agree mainly. I mean, I loved transformers (I've watched it on DVD soo many times xD) and I was looking forward to revenge of the fallen for a while, saw it finally this weekend on Sky, and I was quite dissapointed.
I did find that the storyline was a bit lacking...and I found that the crude humour surrounding the decepticons kinda 'weakened' them in my eyes, lolz.

I thought they were totally badass in the first film, and in this it was just like :hmm:

I rather liked jetfire though, appreciated his old man 'tude xD

& Leo kinda annoyed me :shoop:

But I guess it's just one of those films were you can shut off your mind and can be guaranteed some CGI fighting action with giant robots and explosions.

Bumblebee is still amazing though >.>

......woo~

Dreaming Of Pandora 08-26-2010 08:02 PM

True Bumblebee is always awesome. But what happened to his voice (again)? He was able to talk at the end of the first film and then it went again?

Leyra 08-26-2010 08:18 PM

I know, I was really confused by that too. There could have been a mini explanation at the beginning *shrugs*

...maybe it's a deleted scene or something.

I really don't want to debate reasons why a movie may be bad or good... all I know is, I liked the sequel. At first I loved it more than the first... then I watched it once more and realized I liked the first movie the best, but I still like the second film. I'm not an 80s-type purist fan of the old cartoons/action figures; I just watch movies and look for their entertaining quality. If it entertains me, I like it.

This was added for extra effect

Truthfully, I never got transformers. Never grew up with it, an the concept just doesn't seem to appeal to me.

That said, I can say one reason I don't have an interest in the transformers films past even that: Michael Bay.

For me, My good friend Dr. Stuart Ashens sums up my thoughts.

Megan Fox?...I want her dead. :xD:

I thought it was a weak sequel to a great flick! i grew up with the Transformers in the 80's, born in 1982 here. I had some of the toys while my 13 year old brother had more, him and i even saw Transformers The Movie in 1986 in a theater the original animated movie.

We also both loved the live-action movie and i am a secret Michael Bay fan, he makes guilty pleasures for me.

Dreaming Of Pandora 08-27-2010 02:36 PM

Im pretty much the same sort of fan as you are, Harry. I enjoyed Pearl Harbour and Armageddon, thinking he was one of the greatest directors ever, but after this wimpy sequel my mind has changed. Still love his previous works.

me and my dad rented this like last week, both of us like number one but this one.... oh man

the plot is sooooo weak.. jumps all over the damned place, new autobots suck, Megan fox didnt do anything really... i agree with all of the above really

there was funny parts, sure. but one thing....

when the fallen came, i expected a big epic fight, and Megatron was fighting that battle aswell 2 Vs 1!

but no.... he gets killed so quickly.... so unsatisfying.

the whole movie is just a big disappointment

Well I liked both, I did have some issues with the second one but not nearly as detailed. Megan Fox character actually had more to do in this one than the first one, the mom getting the brownies was stupid, the 'balls' on the decepticon were for effect and a pun... not for real, the little one..yeah that was a bit over the top.
The reason why Optimus was able to finally win was because he had parts from the other Primes.
My roommate is an amateur Egyptologist..she's read all kinds of books about the history and monuments... all through the batte she kept moaning and said, 'the monuments! They're destroying the monuments and pyramids!' not seriously but it was funny.
Another little issue was when Sam 'dies' and who brings him back to life? The Primes? Heyyy! Wtf? Is it because he got zapped and had part of the cube in him? I sure hope so because otherwise it was so wrong.
These movies are all about testosterone and what guys like, the second one wasn't the same as the first but I still get a thrill seeing them transform and act like they have real working parts and have weight.
I bought the first movie in the special 'transformer' case and the second at 7-11 for real cheap.
Value is value I guess.
