Do not get me started...
Don't want to troll, but someone needs to say it.
The Video Game industry is seeing a very dark era at the moment. At least in the FPS region of gaming. Medal of Honor, Crysis 2, and quite possibly Fable III are following something similar. Fable III is skeptical however, alot of critics have shown over-the-top results. But with Bad Company and Crysis 2, they are all following something similar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. If you haven't heard of this game, it is the most popular game aside from WoW and other possible MMOs. The world's playtime on this game is insane, you get my point. Bad Company is adding patches that reduces the difficulty, adds unnecessary content thats meant to lure in the MW2 crowd, and avoids to fix the obvious problems with the game. Some games like Battlefield and Crysis are perfect, in their nature and form, all they needed was a small amount of care and time to perfect the very small problems that gamers, such as myself, found to be bigger problems than what they really worth worrying about. Developers, however, that don't listen to their fanbase and try a shot at going with something thats popular learn the hard way that it's a suicide pill. Build a consensus before going with a renowned interface. Be smart about it gentlemen.
The introduction of perks, killstreeks, etc. is just another way of saying that the companies who were behind all the very unique FPS shooters have all gone cold. The industry is desperate for cash and have denied their trust into creativity in the playability region of their games. Some games out there are showing the standard, such as Blizzard's side projects and Bioware's Games from their dedicated team (Check out Knights of the Old Republic's progress, extremely promising). Ubisoft as well, but that move with 'Uplay' and the permanent internet connection did more harm than good; the cause of this problem was from piracy, but that's a whole different point all together but has a connection to the life of the Game industry. Using the modelled interface from MW2 and applying to other games is making shooters generic, boring, and MW2 with just different visuals. Players have taste, and we need to satisfy that taste with the art that you give us to interact with my humble developers.
The term of a video game is a unique interactive piece of equipment that brings as much or more entertainment than that of a movie should in a variety of different ways, either through plot or a visually satisfying sight to behold (one of many of my descriptions of what a video game is; multiply definitions exist). The universe of some games are unique to their own brand; why do they have to betray a game series by making it a knock-off of another game? My friends would declare this a rant, and I'm inclined to agree with them so this is where I take my leave of the debate. On a personal opinion however:
Bad Company was a fun game until everyone found out about the m60 bogus. It had no recoil and you could just spit bullets till you hit something. I'm one for skill and using Shotgun Slugs is how I roll (I snipe with it, better than using a sight ^_^ Id say), and what grinds my gears is the god AWFUL hit-reg that this game possesses. Every other Battlefield game has had this problem, and what doesn't make sense is that a person who was familiar with the Battlefield team told the developers how to fix the hit-reg problem through a thread on the official forum board. The developers ignored him and publicly humiliated him by denouncing him with a big BS statement "We'll work on that". Later, I found out that the forum admin gave him a PM and threatened him to quiet down about it. He posted the message in a new thread and he got banned shortly after. This proves they could of fixed it; this man was a guy who was laid off from the team because of money issues, he provided his assistance because he wanted his job back. I feel for the man; Dice is a company filled with pricks.
Status: I hate the game... with a Passion!- -Hit Registry
- +Weapon Choices
- -Client Side Hit Reg
- -False Animations
- -No Infantry Only maps
- -Lack of Customizable Settings for Servers
- -Gernades are random, have a fixed trigectory
- +Immersion
- -Game Content reduced; cheap additions do more dmg than heal
- -No new maps, NONE!
- -Only way to win, Medic Train it all the way!
In fact, the bad news from Crysis 2 has lead me into being a 3D Character Designer for my Clan, which has converted into a mod team. Were all in training at the moment and results are promising so far. One day, you'll see a character I made :D I love cake as a gift!
