I think they can look OK, it's just that mine doesn't. Next year though...
|
The premade costumes aren't that good... I haven't done all mine together yet as I'll be going out this evening. My tail isn't that great, next time I'm just going to buy the expensive one, I think, and ears failed :(
|
I bought that tail, and it's great. Ears worked out OKish, but need a better way to attach them. Prosthetic didn't use, should have asked Kym Sainsbury what to do... next time though...
|
As much as I cringe to say this... we need help from the make-up artist who worked on Ben Stiller. -.-

Those are awesome pics, great job on the stripes and the tail ;) The ears look pretty neat too.
|
that's amazing :)
Tail looks great... mine wasn't that good :( |
I just wish I had lightened the body paint to match the tail... I thought the talc I used to dry the paint would lighten it, but it changed back to the original shade after a while. Next time, I guess.
|
Freakin' awesome, dude! One of the best. :)
|
looks great! whatd you use for paint?
|
|
That IS one of the best... actually, I'd say THE best I've ever seen. Ears could use a little work to look more realistic, and the queue could be a bit longer, but everything else is just spot on; I could never top it. That's brilliant, what you did!! :D:D:xD::D You went out this Halloween like that, right? That is a fantastic job.

Absolutely outstanding job. By far the best I've seen. :)

Thanks for the compliments everyone. Personally I'm not satisfied, and will strive to make next year's a bit better.:)

Nice :)
That paint sounds difficult... wish I had that kind of skill :P I just used normal bodypaint, if I slept in it then it would have come off and my bed would have turned blue :P |
Doesn't require skill, I just used trial and error (mostly error!). One thing I did find is that you really shouldn't mess with it until it's properly dry. The areas I painted carefully with multiple very thin layers came out great. The areas where I tried to hurry the process along by painting one thick layer, blowing hot air onto it with a hairdryer and applying talc in <15 minutes did not. Ended up with clumpy bits of talc and paint and I had to scrape it off and try again.
Having a second person doing the base coats while I stood completely still would have been better than doing that myself in sections as I did (I only used a second person when I needed my back painted). |
This is... just... Epic Win! :)
|
Irayo! I was so incredibly nervous about doing this. I had this little voice at the back of my mind telling me I was insane, that I would regret this, that it was the stupidest thing I'd ever done... but in the end it was great! I got great reactions from so many people: housemates, neighbours, partygoers, random people on the street, clubbers, family and friends back in the UK, work colleagues, internet people... I feel both relieved and excited- relieved that it went well, and excited because I've decided to do it all over again, but better! I want to look as much like a Na'vi as I possibly can. Next October is too far for me, so I'm going to take v2.0 to a local cosplay con in April.
|
Nice :D
I don't know when I'll be able to do my next version... I'll have to find an excuse :awesome: |

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for things that need improving on this costume, please tell me and I will add them to my to-do list. They have to be workable though, no "your eyes need to be larger and further apart, or "you need to be 3 metres tall" :P |

It's because the way you painted yourself was actually authentic-looking. It looked professional.

One thing I'm definitely going to do is drop a couple of % points bodyfat. What should be a decent Na'vi -like V-taper is ruined by some minor but definite love-handles  |

Also I read your Na'vi. What did you use as your dictionary, Learn Na'vi? If you did this by memory you are a better man than me! Irayo |
Primarily lifting and extensive carb reduction (I weigh everything I eat), occasional AM pre-breakfast cardio. I got down to a lower BF% for my April 2011 costume:

Instead of plunging into body paints, plunge into booze!
