Mass 'Meet-Up' being planned to watch Avatar at the cinema?

Kaltxi ma aysumke si aysmukan,

It is now getting very close to Avatar finally leaving the Cinemas until Avatar 2 comes out. To mark this occasion who would be interested in a mass 'meet-up' at the IMAX cinema in Birmingham (UK).:hi:

Today I have been on the phone to the IMAX Operations Manager about having a meet up. She said Avatar will be showing for one of the last times on 5th November at 20:30.

I also mentioned that fact that we had undertaken an Avatar Communities Film Project that had resulted in 20 of us from 9 countries making our forum film, 'Our Only Home'. I then took it a stage further and asked if there was a possibility of showing our film before the start of Avatar...

Now you might think the answer would be a straight 'NO'! But it was not and she mentioned that she could see if they could put our film on at 20:15 before the start of Avatar!

Yes, that's right. Our Avatar Communities Film being shown on the same IMAX screen as Avatar - for one night only!:hi::party:

However, before we all get carried away and fall off our chairs, she still needs to get back to me and will hopefully confirm it this time next week. I also said I would get back to her to let her know roughly how many would be interested in attending the 'meet-up'.

We have been commuicating through this wonderful forum for many months now, and many of us have become friends. This would be a wonderful opportunity for us to finally meet face to face and share the film that brought us all together in the first place, before it is gone for good.

If there is enough interested, I will send more details through in due course.

So who would be interested in finally meeting up? This is no commitment, just a request for who would be interested in a meet-up to watch Avatar together on 5th November, with the possibility of a 'world premiere' of 'Our Only Home'.

I await your interest...

Oel ngati kameie...soon,

Alan

Wow, Alan -- this sounds fantastic! I SO wish I could attend, but unfortunately the timing for me is just not good. Got too much going on this month and into November. So I won't be able to join you for this...but I'll be there in "tirea" (spirit).

Human No More 10-14-2010 07:56 PM

Birmingham is a bit far for me... really depends how much it will cost for me to get there :(

I live in California  Epic location fail. >.<

Well, if you went by train, you find it would cost an arm and leg...oh and a queue too!:D

However, if you went by National Express about £4:50 each way!!! and not only that the bus station is like a 10 minute walk from a hotel to stay the night and 15 minute walk from the IMAX cinema! Hotel prices range from £44 to £60 a night. The Saturday can always be an early Christmas shopping day!!;)

But watching Avatar together with fellow forum friends - priceless!

Shame we can't time up a showing at an IMAX over your way. Hopefully we can get a good gang together as showing our fourm film has a better chance of happening. I wonder if that would be a forum first to have a film made by a couple of like minded forums shown at a cinema?

Is there anyone here from the UK who would like to come a join the meet up?

Hey, Birmingham Internation Airport in only ten minutes away from Birmingham city centre by train and the train station is only 10 minutes from the IMAX cinema, if any one from outside the UK is interested...

Soooo... far... away... :'(

Thanks for all the support and well wishes guys and gals. We really need some more 'locals' to join the clan outing. You must be out there! :hi: It is not everyday you get to meet the people you have been conversing with through fan forums, let alone actually have the chance to see a film made by two fan forums together at an IMAX.

To help you see how close everything is in Birmingham for transport, hotels and of course the IMAX cinema, I've pulled a map off t'internet and highlighted the places. Everything is within 15 minutes walking time. The cheepest travel to Birmingham is by National Express, like £5 from London! The hotels are close by if you want to stay the night and very reasonably priced. The railway stations are in the city center. If you come by car the IMAX cinema has a HUGE car park.

So how are you fixed my friends for 20:00 on Friday 5th November to see your forum film and Avatar SE all on the same IMAX screen? :)

Oel ngati Kameie - I hope...

Alan

Too bad I live in the United States. This sounds awesome, I wish I could attend it :(

TheIknimaya 10-15-2010 09:23 PM

I'd love to go to the UK and see Avatar with all you guys who will be going, but unfortunately it's just something that can't happen. :(

Although if I was a bit older and had a job so I could pay for everything, then it might be different. *Maybe* in the future I *might* be able to attend something somewhere, but my parents might be a little iffy about me going somewhere by myself. :P

Have fun though everyone. Take some pictures for those of us who can't go. :)

Ouch, even National Express will cost me ~£40 :(

Ironically, the train would actually cost me slightly less as well as being a lot more convenient for getting there, but I'd be waiting around until 6am for the first one back :(

This is starting to look very complicated to get there, especially as there is no way I can afford a hotel :(

Like others, I would totally love to attend but I too live on the other side of the pond. Nevertheless, I hope that 'Our Only Home' does get screened there, that would be really cool.

A hostel, perhaps? Certainly not as comfortable, but definitely a lot cheaper. :P

If you are able to book in advance the train can be quite cheep too. If you need any help sorting it out drop me a PM. It would be great if you could join us.

Hmm, seems I should have had a go at organising something in Canada or America!:)

Hey, there's no reason why someone over your way couldn't find a cinema still show Avatar and have a meet up over your way.

Will forward through any pictures...

Would be great if there was any more from the UK to join us for the meet-up...
