I too have a hard time being really mad at Selfridge. He comes off mostly as a corporate pawn. Of course, he's the proxy for most of the RDA badness in the first movie, but I hope JC doesn't get too preoccupied with him. Let's go up the food chain a little if we're going to kill more RDA people!

I just love Selfridge :) Siiiiigh

Let's hope they're just crediting Sigourney because Grace's driverless avatar has some trivial role in Avatar 2 (e.g., like being an organ donor for some Na'vi warriors wounded by SecOps or something). Really, I'd love it if Quaritch, Grace, Trudy, and everybody else presumed dead/gone at the end of Avatar [1] really was dead/gone. I can see Avatar 2 starting off with some cut scenes in which we see Selfridge stepping out of cryo and immediately being handed a pink slip, but other than that, I'd love not to see him again either. Fresh blood!!! :D

EDIT: Revising that: Except perhaps for Norm's avatar. Let's see that come back somehow. The script makes that seem hard, but the movie leaves the door open. A little.

Well said :D

As for Norm, it depends on whether or not the extra things from the script that were not made are canon or not.

I don't think James Cameron will make Avatar 2 a repeat of Avatar. Everyone would expect Quaritch to return as evil, or just return at all. If Quaritch DOES return, I think he'll be truly GOOD.

BotanicalMedley 02-25-2011 11:27 PM

Do you think he'll return as good or still evil?

tm20 02-26-2011 01:01 AM

he'll return..... in an urn http://my.ilstu.edu/~cemushr/persona...es/rimshot.gif

:) That works for me.

He's dead.

In the CE opening scene, Jake was watching a documentary about extinct tigers being cloned back into existence. If that is possible in 2154, then there is a possibility of Quaritch returning as a clone maybe?

Except that cloning doesn't work like that - all it does is create a genetic double. Which, if they DID clone Quaritch, would mean in a few years they'd just have a little boy on their hands, which defeats the purpose.

Glad you mentioned that to clarify. There's a common misuse of the words/misunderstanding of "clone" and "duplicate".

A clone possesses an exact physical likeness of the original source, and is birthed and grown the same as any other human.

A duplicate is one who possesses the exact mental qualities of another, and is never birthed and/or grown, but rather animated in another physical form that resembles the exact likeness of the original. However, there's no such thing as a "genetic" duplicate, in that it's impossible for the mental properties of one person to be passed to another by inheritance.

I blame Hollywood! And sci-fi.

Although it would be cool if there was something where you could copy and transfer consciousness, but I don't really see that in Avatar!verse with the humans.

Hey Jake and Tom were identical twins. so how about an identical twin of Quaritch inbound on the next ISV?

Woodsprite 02-26-2011 06:36 AM

That'd be pretty comic-book-like.
