My new calculator

Found this today at a second hand. Handcranked, 13 decimals, 700 parts, built in 1938, no minus-sign instead there is a bell that say "pling" when it's a negative number. You know you want her ;)

Since I had some time over I decided to make a quick rundown of how you should operate it.

http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/d...r/PICT1200.jpg

Right, this is the machine in itself. We start frpm the bottom. There is two identical shiny buttons a little bit to the left from the middle. Pushing these buttons will move the whole part behind it. The reason you do this is to increase how much you want to multiply with. On step to the right is a decimal higher and the left a decimal lower. A little bit to the left from the buttons are some holes with some digits in them. These stands for how many times you've cranked the handle... with other words how many equations you've executed. on the same part but to the right of the buttons are the result printed out. 13 digits. At both ends of this part is two smal crankhandles. When cranked once they reset the digits to zero. Now where done with that part. There is a hell of a lot of numbers at the top... there is where you dial the numbers you want by pulling 10 small levers.

http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/d...r/PICT1206.jpg

This will print 4242 once the crank been pulled once. When the crank is pulled those small levers rotates with the movement and behaves like in a musicbox but pushes out numbers instead of music.

http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/d...r/PICT1207.jpg

As you can see the levers follows.

Resulting in this:

http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/d...r/PICT1212.jpg

The next step is to multiply 4242 with 2. To do this you set all the levers we used last time to 2. Next step is to crank the handle and smile. The result is 0000000008484 but I don't think I have to show you that.
Here is it with the middle section as far to the right as possible.

And the last is just some coggs to drool over^^

Maybe this post was a little bit to much =/

It's the greenest computer I've ever seen! :P

Awesome :awesome:

It's interesting to say the least.

I would have taken it apart by now to see how the internal mechanisms worked. Then attempt to put it back together :P

Really cool!

That is seriously the most epic calculator ever conceived by man :P

I haven't opened her yet but I will have to do it soon I'm afraid... she needs to be oiled up. I'm afraid I wont be able to put her into workingstate again since there is nearly 700 parts in her... therefore I'm reading throu some documents on restorations on these machines right now.

This is very much the same as mine.... although this is a custombuild so don't mind the looks of it. Just wanted to show you how they look while operating.

And also^^
