Apparently it was really bad, and didn't even make sense in the context of the anime, although I have never watched either myself.

Also, they dropped the "Avatar" part of the title specifically because otherwise people might go "What does this have to do with Avatar?"

Moco Loco 07-30-2011 01:24 AM

Haha, well good thing JC got in there first, or people would have seen "Avatar" and thought, ugh, not that piece of **** again, let's see something else. Especially with as little advertising as he had put out in the first place, some people wouldn't know what it was at all :xD:

Human No More 07-30-2011 02:52 PM

Then he'd just have had to name it Na'vi :P

Sacred Tsahaylu 08-01-2011 04:05 PM

I actually kinda liked The Last Airbender movie. The acting was pretty terrible but the martial arts were nice. I've never watched the series so I'm not totally offended by its deviation like fans.
But if that was the secret sequel, I think I'd die of despair...
'mon Avatar 2!

Moco Loco 08-01-2011 06:01 PM

I haven't seen it, so personally I can't actually judge it, but EVERY person I've talked to other than you Tsahaylu has said it was garbage. I also did not really follow the series.

I have a friend who was a very avid follower of the series and he was so enraged by how bad the movie was that he pirated a copy of it then shot it to smithereens. Literally shot it...with a gun. I can ask him for the link to the review he did of the movie if anyone want's to see it, it's pretty funny. The shooting is at the end.

Was just looking at this thread again for whatever reason, and realized-- there's going to be a sequel to The Last Airbender?
Is anything more full of fail?

Clarke 01-12-2012 02:10 PM

Considering the mess that was TLA's critical reception, I doubt it. :P

James Cameron Will Film Three “Avatar” Sequels At the Same Time | Showbiz411

Fan Lizard 06-26-2012 02:59 PM

I don't know what to think apart from..."Jim, WTF???" :stare:

Sìkat 06-26-2012 03:42 PM

3 movies...at the same time? That's a pretty gutsy move.

Although, if Peter Jackson could pull it off with the LOTR trilogy, I honestly don't see James Cameron having trouble with it.

A4?

Human No More 06-26-2012 10:23 PM

I assume "At the same time" is sequentially, not concurrently :P

Makes sense in production terms, having all the actors, script, equipment together, especially since the finished footage can be worked on while the rest is still filming to save a few months or so.

mikkowilson 06-26-2012 10:51 PM

Concurrently is common.

Build the set once, shoot as much as you can there for as many films as possible.

I guess so... never thought about it that way, although with Avatar, the sets aren't really 'sets' so much as objects and ledges, I guess :)

That was the Legendarium, though. "Detail" was one of JRRT's middle names. :P

There are still a significant amount of live action sets & locations in Avatar. A pretty huge chunk of the movie is live action.

Hey, as long as he's taking until 2016, I'm all for this :D

CyanRachel 06-28-2012 12:20 AM

Wow, this is amazing news!
Wasn't expecting JC would be making *three* sequel films.
Well, it seems we'll be getting lots of Avatar goodness in the yrs to come. :)
Bring it on!

“Avatar” sequels could become a Chinese co-production – IFC

Human No More 09-22-2012 01:41 AM

This bothers me. Remember when China banned Avatar? Censorship incoming.
