Solar System : Titan

Hey all.

Today we talk about Titan, the orange looking moon of Saturn.

Now this might be information known by some, but I am quite sure some people don't know since its a new find. [ 2005 relatively new :P ]
Titan is the largest moon of Saturn and the first moon discovered by man to actually have an atmosphere. It is also notable the Titan is larger than Mercury.

Titan's Atmosphere consists mainly of nitrogen [ 98 % ] , methane [ 1% ] and other gasses [ 1 % ].

For many years since its discovery, its features were unknown due to its orange haze. However in the Cassini-Huygens mission in 2004 titans Atmosphere was breached and it revealed a similar to the Earth environment. Apparently, Titan is perfectly located so that methane actually becomes liquid. Thus Titan has Lakes and Seas of Liquid Methane. It also has a climate, rain and wind. The only difference is that Titan's rain falls slower, due to lower gravitational pull and the drops are bigger. It is possible that Titan is home to some microbial organisms.

Here is a picture of Titan's Geography

Here is a picture assembled during the Huygens's descent on Titan's Surface depicting a shoreline

And finally the map of Ligeia Mare ( Sea ) of Titan which they plan to sail on in the future.

I hope that info has been useful! Comment and give your thoughts.

EDIT : This was made really quick cause I wouldn't get into the details.

exploring the solar system is awesome - we still have so much to learn :)

Wonder what they will find there ;)

yeah :D just imagine that methane could support life there. I hope that when they go to explore it they find something :) But we haven't even walked on Mars yet. It will probably be some time :(

yeah, time is exactly that what it needs, would be much easier for such big projects if finally every country would lay down conflicts, join their resources and make for every being a better living on earth and in later case use also some fair resources for explorations like that.

But in times like that.. Its only a nice dream :(

Yeah war never changes, unfortunately. Still, I think it would be better if we put more women in Parliaments :P

Titan is a really interesting place, it's like early Earth, only much colder.

Read the book Titan by Stephen Baxter. It's scarily accurate/plausible and explores what could happen in the future :)

good booktips are always much worth - perhaps i will give this a try :D
