Movies that make you cry

So I'm a bigger guy, and I'm kind of a ****. I usually don't show much sensitivity to anything but This movie made me Baw big time:

And ever since this movie I cry at just about any sad scene in a movie. :P

What movies make you cry, ToS??

Woodsprite 12-02-2010 05:45 AM

Wow... movies I cry during...
  • "The Notebook"
  • "The Time Traveler's Wife"
  • "Avatar" goes without saying.
  • "Peter Pan" (2003 version) makes me cry everytime at the end.
  • "Hook" makes me cry a couple times throughout (but never cried at it before until after watching "Peter Pan" and realizing a few things for Peter).

Let's see... I'm literally thinking of these off the top of my head as I type.
  • "Memoirs of a Geisha" made me cry at the end.
  • "Gladiator".
  • "Children of Dune" (miniseries).
  • "Toy Story 3".
  • "Braveheart" used to make me cry; not anymore, though.
  • "At First Sight" is another one.
  • "Lady in the Water" is a sure tear-jerker for me; I never fail to cry for that one.
  • "Passion of the Christ".
  • "The Last Samurai".
  • "The Green Mile".

I can't think of anymore at the moment. If I do, I'll post again.

and I'll admit it... I cried when ET died and then came back to life

You guys cried at Avatar? Seriously??

Eltu 12-02-2010 06:43 AM

I think most people here do - me included.

Avatar is an extremely immersive movie - when watching it, you can feel like you are there, be a part of it. Because of this, it gets very strong emotionally - because you feel so much like you are there.

The destruction of Hometree scene is a great example - since so many of us get so immersed into the movie at this point, what the Na'vi feel, we feel. Not to mention the mating scene - but there it's crying out of happiness, naturally ;)

The fact that a movie can do all this by just making us share the character's emotions, is an amazing thing, and one of the things I love most about Avatar.

All Quiet on the Western Front (original)
Apollo 13
Armageddon

Yeah I got way into Avatar too but it never had a crying factor. To me at least. but to each his own.

Crying is so great.

It takes a lot to make me cry. I usually hold it in. I do cry, but get teary-eyed more often.

Movies where I cried:
Avatar
Return of the King

Movies where I got teary-eyed:
How to Train Your Dragon

Yeah, small list, but I don't watch many movies. :P

Very little does it for me. Actually, there's probably more music that does than movies.

Avatar is still the only one that has made me actually fry. There are a few more that have brought me close to it but I haven't actually cried, and a few that were quite a while ago so I'm not really sure if I did (E.T. ), but Avatar is the only definite one.

Same here, Avatar was first and only one movie that touched my feelings very deeply, it literally changed my view of life.

There's a few movies mentioned in this thread that I haven't seen yet but would probably make me cry.

For some reason, I have not openly cried during Avatar. :S Please don't hurt me... That's not to say my emotions don't get really worked up inside me, I just haven't felt the sting of tears as I have with the two listed above. Actually, now that I think about it, I came very close to crying the first time I saw Tsu'tey's death scene in the SE. That almost completely changed the mood of the ending for me.

Me too. In my opinion there was nothing cry-worthy in Avatar.

I did however cry when Boromir died in the Fellowship of the Ring. :P

Being female, I have a bigger cry hormone than guys...but I didn't cry during the original Avatar. I cried at Tsu'tey's death scene though..every time.
Other movies:

Last Samurai
Gladiator
Toy Story 3
Matrix 1 & 3 (yes, I liked all three but those got me)
Ladyhawke
Dragonheart
Babylon 5 last episode: Sleeping In Light (and if you watched that entire series from start to finish...yes...and still get teary eyed listening to the music.)

And there are likely others I can't remember right now from when I was younger that impacted me. My movie library is seriously lacking a lot of movies.
