Add to that the windfarm project they announce on the blog website, we'll have the best movie ever. :xD: |
More activity, more fun :D And always remember, there is not only Avatar content which can be used for discussions or irc talk :D
|
And the forum is just so basic
They don't use the BBC codes but instead the HTML codes. So, you have to use the beautiful microscopic yellow smileys. |
You'll all be glad that the new ToS will use a choice between BBcode and wysiwyg - so you can either post as you would in a word editor with no need to memorize tags, or you can utilize the full power of manual input :)

I hope this also helps with text color. Since I'm using a tablet I can't pick a color because the color selector doesn't load correctly. So I have to type out the tags each time. (COLOR=Cyan) Blah blah blah (/COLOR) I wish we could choose things like text color and have it associated with our account so that we don't have to select a color each time. I don't know if that's even possible, but it would be great if it is. I don't have to choose each time in the shoutbox unless I clear my internet cache. Quote:
Hopefully we can get all the displaced AF lurkers to login and join us. |
Text color in general is one of these things that are hard to balance on an internet community.
On one hand, it's a form of expression, and someone may want to express themselves through text color as much as through their avatar, signature, username etc. - and that's great. On the other hand, it can make posts harder to read depending on the color and person viewing it, it offers less control of the forum designer who may want to carefully design how posts display to make them as readable as possible, and it makes certain posts stand out independent of their actual content, which some may want to argue against. I'm a bit undecided on how to handle text colors on the new ToS, but feel free to offer some input! If I do include them it'd likely be in the form of a pre-selected list of colors, so that I can make them in pairs, one for the default dark theme and one for the optional new light theme. Otherwise what looks good on one may be completely unreadable on the other :D |
Oh I understand completely. I have learning disabilities and during testing when I was a child we actually discovered that some colors affect my reading comprehension and reading speed. In school I used color filters and it made all the difference. So I understand the individual's experience as well as the design aspect. I'm sure we all want a nice clean looking site and that's really hard to do if everyone is going in different directions.
In the end I'd rather go with what is universally more readable over individual user style. I don't have to use colored text. Really the only reason I use Cyan is because that's what color my username is and it matches my current avatar. :) |
It's definitely a balance - going too far in the other direction isn't good either - it both limits user expression and makes it harder to intentionally format text in ways that make it more readable (color for emphasis, bullet points, lists, bold/italic text, sizes, etc, etc.).
Hopefully the new version will work out well once it's out :) Oh, and your username is Cyan because you're awesome. :D |

While that does sound absolutely sublime, I do have to say that Comic Sans MS looks the very best in hot pink.

Nice combination, I could totally get used to it! :D

Oh... no... what have I done?
