BEAUTIFULLY written, Neytiri_Quest. You wrap your feelings in words so well, I see not that your mind is giving a rational account, but your heart is talking thru your mind here. Imho, think of writing seriously if you don't do it already, you're obviously talented, and your thread is such a relief to so many people. I love Neytiri in a sisterly way, I admire her, I see this girl is so great, she is so... PURE, can't find a better word (& I won't retell your whole thread here :) I love Sylvanin, too - for some reason, she comes in my dreams & meditations, & I love it when she does, well, now that she is within Eywa it mustn't be too difficult for her...

Talking about Eywa... that scene when Neytiri finds Jake in his human body in the shack... She is Eywa - All Mother for Na'vi - personified in this moment! The LOVE in her eyes, it's so incredibly beautiful that I'd better shut up cos I won't find the right words to express it...

Ah yes, let her be your guiding star, as she already is, to become a better person (I mean all Neytiri clan, and whoever is reading this thread).

I'm pleased you like Sylwanin, too. She was a strong influence during Neytiri's younger life, and became a powerful guiding presence after her death. Her story moved me to write the poem, Neytiri: To Sylwanin, Dying Young (which is included in the Neytiri Love Poems thread which can be accessed from my signature). She also inspired much of Commentary VI, which was divided into Part A and Part B because of its length.

White Apache is back :) willing to comment something else. I feel rather strong about this subject: there is a powerful pull towards it, & it also makes me angry for a reason. I shall explain:

Welcome to the club! You are NOT the only one, & to start with, I appreciate, & I am sincerely grateful to you for finally letting it out instead of keeping it to yourself - see how inspiring your Why Do We Love Neytiri thread is!

While dealing with & investigating Life-Death-Life matters (from forensic medicine & funeral agencies manuals translations thru The Teachings of Don Juan to PLT) I discovered an interesting fact: a large number of people have NDE, OBE, lucid dreams, premonitions & all these "out there" experiences. There are 20,000 only documented cases of NDE, & that's a number from while ago. But only about 20% talk about them. Why do the others keep silence? Well, this is why: for the fear to be misunderstood, called "freaks", get "strange looks" & so on & so forth. Now then, if these people were a bit braver, like you , & if the others were a bit more disposed to listen - only to listen, no need to blindly believe any thing - we could share so much more information & knowledge!

A curious thing happened during a conference on NDE. During somebody's speech, an angry man stood up, & said: "I am a cardiologist, & in 20 years of my practice none of my patients mentioned this nonsense!" Then a guy several rows behind him stood up, & replied with: "I am one of your patients, & you are the last person on this planet I would have shared this experience with!" (applause)

But I see hope here:
All said, I repeat: THANKS, & feel free to share – with the right people & in the right situation, but imho this knowledge is necessary & important. I doubted forever about posting my pre-Avatar & first Avatar dreams on “I dreamed about Pandora” thread, but decided to “jump on that Toruk”. Guess what – somebody found it inspiring, & I have a new friend whom I already hold very dear & can talk freely about "this stuff", we probably tell each other some experiences that we have never ever ever shared with anyone before. I probably wouldn’t have made this friendship otherwise.

Thanks, apache_blanca. :) Though I have learned to 'veil' myself at times, I have certainly realized there are many others who have powerful otherworldly or 'hyper-conscious' dreams and waking experiences. I suspect that on a forum like this the number is at least 10-20 times the average--which helps explain why so many people here are struggling to find answers and peace to questions other people in their lives either disregard or simply can't understand at this point. And for many of the people on this list (and other lists like it), the sweepingly powerful presentation of AVATAR--with Pandora, the Na'vi, Neytiri (or Jake for the tsmukes reading :kiss:), might have been a first 'awakening' to these ideas and feelings and experiences.

This is the primary reason I wrote the Commentaries and Neytiri Love Poems: to help others who were new to such powerful and often overwhelming feelings and ideas see them in a more manageable, understandable, and realistic light--and to celebrate the transcendent beauty of the movie and all its myriad elements with those who could already 'See'.

The natural response from someone who doesn't understand is to either verbally attack or downgrade the person telling them about an NDE, OBE, lucid dream, etc,--or simply to assume they are a bit crazy. This is no doubt why the man in your story didn't share his experiences with the cardiologist. There is also the implication that he/she might now be viewed in a different light, and will be invited to less and less shared group events in the future--which leads to more loneliness, boredom, self-doubt, and self-esteem issues. That person simply doesn't 'fit in' with what his/her friends, family members, co-workers, fellow students, and neighbors view as 'normal'. So not only does the person feel a bit strange for having inexplicable insights, experiences and dreams--he/she feels less and less comfortable sharing them because of the degree of separation that is engendered. This is also why relationships are generally harder than normal (See Commentary #3).

This is probably very similar to the shock many people experienced after 'Seeing' AVATAR for the first time and trying to explain their experience to others. The floodgates had opened inside, and they couldn't find any understanding or support from their 'clans', so they rushed to sites like this in the hope they would find 'others of their own kind'. (If Eltu, Human No More, and others intimately involved in this site are listening: I hope you have some inking of how absolutely important this site has been to so many people. All of your huge, often over-whelming, work is greatly appreciated by many. :)

You're welcome! And thanks. :) These days I feel quite comfortable sharing important and meaningful things--when I feel the 'right' people are listening. And I strongly feel more and more people are awakening. That's why I shared a bit of my personal history in this latest Commentary. :)

I love all this. More than a year later, she is still indeed on my mind a whole lot, and she made me remember many things that I had once forgotten. Because of her - and also because of my being drawn to this forum - so many things about life and the world have changed for me. And I would say it's all been for the better. Teaching us? Yes- I've always thought that if I could meet her, one of the things I'd say would be to just ask her what wisdom she has to share, and I would just sit calmly and listen.

About "lamenting her absence"...well yes, it is a pity that a person like her is difficult to meet, isn't it? But let me share something I once recently thought: I think that if you want Neytiri to exist where you are, then you have to make it happen yourself. I mean take on her best qualities and in a sense become her. Learn from her sense of compassion, her strength of loyalty, and everything else that we admire about her. And then emulate those qualities if you don't already. That, I think, is how you love someone that you cannot find. (And then there's a chance that someone very much like Neytiri will come across your path someday and stop to properly meet you. :) )


Sometimes words can do an injustice but I'll give it a try :P: it's pure unconditional love that she has for Jake. It doesn't matter to her that his skin isn't blue, has no queue, and that even if he could stand on two legs he'd barely reach her stomach. No, she's just overjoyed to see that he is alive, no matter what shape he is in. And the spirit that's driving Jake to lift his hand up in his most revealing moment - that's what her love reaches out towards. It's worth saying again: "Spirit is all that matters."

This is still my favorite scene in the whole movie, just because I think it's the best expression of true love I've ever seen. You mentioned Eywa and NDEs: when this scene comes to mind I think of the indescribably powerful and radiant unconditional love that NDE experiencers are touched with. Jake does nearly experience death in this moment anyways. :P

PS at 4pm Spanish time: I've just read again your Commentary 3 - haha, yes, definitely, absolutely right! I love this metaphor about the men in the cave. In fact, I am lucky to have a RL friend as in love with Avatar as me, & she identifies a lot with Neytiri - but (I feel) is insecure of "not being up to the mark". I feel this Part III can be some guidance for her - do you mind me translating it into Spanish?

About the importance of the forums... again YES & now, after quite some years on this planet I feel that I at last "fit" somewhere - here. I used to perceive the world as a 2D puzzle, but my piece is 3D so it was like trying to fit a cube into a square: a tiny part fits, but what about the rest???? (sigh). But now, continuing with the metaphor, I see the forums as 3D or even multidimensional pieces of work so yes, there's is a right space for me, too :D and it's a Good feeling!

Well said, Empty Glass. :) A wise course is to learn from the qualities Neytiri displayed and seek to develop and embody them. A question I posed in Commentary #3 was, essentially, "If I found a Neytiri-like woman (or NLW, for short), why would she be interested in me?" It's too easy to mope around, grieving about the absence of an NLW is in our life, and doing nothing constructive about it. The choice we can make, however, is to put aside these less-than-productive feelings, and develop in ourselves those qualities we most admire in Neytiri. Then, when a 'Terran' NLW crosses our path, we can feel more worthy of her; can meet her as an equal; can feel we have something to offer her. Otherwise, it would be a very uneven relationship that doesn't make sense.

I absolutely love the way Neytiri looks, her blue skin, ears, and big eyes ("honey drenched eyes" is a good description by somebody in this discussion)

I think I looked at those already, or at least something similar, and they are lovely. The whole forum is very interesting, I'm glad I found it.
As I love the whole movie I will probably enter into some of the discussions in due course, but at the moment I'm just thinking about Neytiri.....sigh.....I love Neytiri.

I would too! She was meant to be pregnant in the end of the first film with the fishing scene in the script. Unfortunately though, if Neytiri was looking after her children she might be pushed back to a lesser role in the film. :S

Because clearly, Jake won't be looking after them, and the clan would never help either...

Sorry. I just really, really, really hate the assumption that Neytiri and Jake having children means that Neytiri, and only Neytiri, will be sidelined. I find that it's assigning gender roles to a culture that doesn't seem to have that many.

I hope if Neytiri and Jake do have a child, that won't happen. I might have to alternate universe the movie, otherwise.

I think if she's going to have children, it will be in the third film. Certainly, other people will do some things, but they can't feed a newborn baby, for example.
With one, Neytiri is a lot harder to have doing things in the second, plus, it would create an amazing effect when the ending of the third film is their baby's eyes opening :)

It would be equally as amazing to me if the eye opening shot ended the second movie. :)

I'm just happy to gaze at the lovely Neytiri whatever she is up to.

I love Neytiri in a sisterly way, & I just want to see her happy - be it being a mother or skydiving or anything. My dear girl deserves all the happiness in the Universe, her life was never a bed of roses. She is such a tough cookie - but also so tender & such a lover of life, it's a mystery how she can be so multi-faceted - while simply being herself.

did you mean "Neytiri is going to face even more hard times" - or "is going to be as hard as nails"?

In any case, Neytiri, dear, if I can help you in any way at all - just tell me, will you? You know my heartdoor is open for you & my bow & arrows ready to shoot anyone who tries to bother you!:war::)

I mean that she is going to be a lot more difficult to write as a character in that case (unless she only appears in background for much of it, in which case, a huge section of fans are going to be extremely disappointed...)

or if somebody kidnaps her baby, & she goes to rescue it with the vengeance.. The angry Neytiri is a force to be reckoned with, :war: she may well become the central character in such (or similar) case...
Personally, I would enjoy watching her Artemis-like, wild & free in the woods, but hey if her idea about happiness is different from mine I won't be standing in her way! :P

In fact I had a party last November and one girl turned up with her face painted blue, and a tail !
