Anybody ever feel like you were lost in the movie while watching it?

Well it's Avatar day, so of course I am watching it. And once it started to get near the middle of the movie, a light outside my window kinda took my eyes away from the screen for a second, and at that point, I realized how sucked into Avatar I was. I can truthfully say that after seeing it for the first time, I felt the effects of PAD and wanted to bad to be on Pandora, so I'm no stranger to Avatar having that kind of impact on me. But with that being said, when whatever that light outside my window was caught my attention, a negative feeling came oer me instantly. I remembered all the things that aren't going so well for me right now, the kind of things I should be worried about where I live, ect. But when I was focused on Avatar, I was totally unaware of everything else. I was feeling great until I remembered how life really is. It's like I got lost in the movie.

It might all sound kinda silly, but it was just really overwhelming and I know the only people who could understand are the people on these Avatar sites. So I felt like sharing. Has anybody else had things feeling while watching it? It's a really deep feeling in my opinion.

Well, that's why we say "experience" rather than "watch" when refering to Avatar. ;)

Yeah, also why when the movie ended it was like getting thrown back into the real world. Also why Avatar can be addictive, almost like a trip in movie form :D

Human No More 12-19-2010 09:58 AM

Exactly :D
I know exactly what you mean, the same thing happens every time for me - by the end, I always need to take some time, in a way, to wait for my mind to get back from Pandora...
If only all of me could be there... :(

I know what you mean Layzie, I had this too. Avatar sucks you in and the only thing that can pull you back out is the credits :( When I watch it, I am the only thing in the world.

That's it in a nutshell. :)

I remember back in the early days ... the end of the movie was a torturous delight, since it was simultaneously beautiful and wonderful (for what was happening to Jake) and unbearably horrible (having Avatar end was like having the world drop out from under you)...

Stanley_9875 12-21-2010 09:41 PM

I always get pulled in. I feel there. After the movie sometimes I'm surprised when the credits come up. Then reality rushes back in on me. Thats when everything hits me...

So in short yes I do... and as someone above me said, thats why I call it an "experience"

Human No More 12-22-2010 12:54 AM

'like having the world drop out from under you'...

too true :'(

rasomaso 12-22-2010 03:15 AM

yes definitely, the first time I saw it when I got out of the theatre, I was like oh no not this again... I really forgot about everything else, because the movie was just so immersive...

ISV Venture Star 12-22-2010 04:44 AM

If only I could stay there... :(

The only time where I've actually, literally felt like I was inside a movie (almost dream-state-like) was weirdly at one point in the movie "Tangled" (watching in 3D). It was so weird; for about 5 seconds I completely forgot I was watching a movie. As great as I thought Tangled was, I wish this had happened to me during a more... superior film.

Never happened to me with Avatar though, nor any other film. I guess it's like one of those experiences where it happens when you least expect it.

You know that weird weak, tingly, and weary kinda feeling you have when you first wake up? Did anyone else get that during the "wake up, Jake!" scene?

Yes -- pretty much every time. Once you're that far into the movie, not only in terms of attention but in terms of time, and especially if you're watching it late at night, it's almost inevitable. :)

Fkeu'itan 12-22-2010 08:33 PM

To answer this question quite simply...

Yes.

Everytime I have watched it. When they fly, I fly with them. When it rains, I can almost feel the humidity of the jungle, the bioluminescence and the night... I have felt - and still feel - such a strong sense of involvement and immersion that, as everyone else here says, when it ends... it's almost... wrong somehow.

Yep. I found it more noticeable when Jake first enters his avatar though, when the vision is blurred and hearing distorted and gradually comes into focus.

rasomaso 12-22-2010 11:25 PM

I think the effect when Grace dies is great, it's like falling asleep lol. :D

Indeed, I actually keep blinking a couple times because I feel its me :xD:

But immersive? Definitely.

With Jake and Neytiri, I feel like I am being loved... stuff like that.

Helicoradian 12-23-2010 09:15 AM

I'm always immersed every time I watch it. After seeing it for the first time it took days to finally snap out of it, something like a mental fog (this being prior to PAD setting in)

I'm the same way. That's why I only watch it at night, so when it's over I can come back at my own pace...If I watch it during the day the only thing I'll think about is Neytiri, Pandora, and how that life in so many ways would be better than this one :(

Fkeu'itan 12-23-2010 08:18 PM

Every time I go to watch it, I think;

"There's no way I can be completely absorbed by it again, this time..."

And everytime i'm wrong. :P

Marley 12-23-2010 09:26 PM

I get lost in the movie every time I watch it, which is why when the movie ends, I feel like I've just been stabbed.........

3D? I feel like I'm on Pandora WITHOUT 3D... (Although I really want to see it sometime in 3D! Never have... Not even seen it in Blu Ray! :()
It's scary sometimes.. I believe the movie is my life while watching it, but if I get disturbed while watching it, I'm instantly reminded that I'm actually on a crappy planet with arrogant selfish people on it and also I'm on what can be.. A complete and utter pig sty of a planet! (This may sound contradicting of some earlier things I've said, I still believe this planet is beautiful! It's humans that don't allow it to be.)

Indeed. I still remember the my first viewing.. At the end when the AVATAR text pops in the screen and the drums boom for the last time, not just me but many others I who sat ahead me had some kind of a shiver/sudden movement when falling off the dream. Unforgettable..

The only thing I know is that I get MAD PISSED if I'm disturbed while watching Avatar. :S

Woodsprite 12-24-2010 02:55 AM

Humanity isn't that bad, people...

Human No More 12-24-2010 02:59 AM

Some humans and humanity in general are completely different things.

Woodsprite 12-24-2010 03:11 AM

I don't think humanity in general is as bad as some make it out to be. Sure, it's got its low points (some very low points), but humanity in general... no. It's not completely horrible. I just disagree.

I agree with you, completely. Avatar in 3D was an incredible experience. :D
