I understand if people downloaded the movie once they had seen it at the movies, what i dont understand is why people would download it INSTEAD of seeing it in 3D or Imax. Its absolutely not the way they should enjoy Avatar for the first time! ^^

Sadly, some people lost it from their cinemas early... and there was a long wait for the bluray release. I'd say that many people who downloaded it had already seen it at the cinema and wanted to keep watching before the bluray was out. Of course, some people did only see it first when they downloaded it, but with Avatar then they are more likely to subsequently see it in the cinema than with other films.

One time I saw a film that was pirated and it was HORRIBLE!!! Somebody snuck (sneaked?) a camera into a theatre, so the pirated movie was at angle with a trapezoidal picture, and the sound was from a teeny little microphone giving a tinny sound like a cellphone!! All in all a terrible experience I wouldn't want to repeat

Cam versions of films are always bad... There was a leaked DVD copy a while after, before the DVD actually came out, but most people had already lost it from their cinemas before then.

Your lucky! Many years ago, i saw a cam version of some movie witch ended abruptly when someone in the theater staff yelled "HEY! YOU CAN'T FILM HERE!". The last seconds showed how the guy who filmed ran out xD

You know how they say "bad sound kills music", well, i'd say that "bad cams kills movies". =]

In case of Avatar, bad sound alone can kill the movie too ;)

The sounds of Pandora are so wonderful that even if you recorded them with a bad mic, they would still sound awesome. That's probably what happened before we sent humans there, when the bandwidth of interstellar spacecraft was still limited. When they heard the first sounds they said "Hey, we need to go there in person...".

Bleh. Be careful what you post here? There's a reason it's the most pirated. you have to buy a frickin 3D TV to get avatar in 3D. You can't just buy avatar 3D, you have to buy the whole TV too!
(seriously, it's buy the bundle or you cant buy avatar 3D.) so therefore if you already have a TV and want avatar you HAVE to pirate it to watch it in 3D! It's horrible :(

Also most-pirated is the worst word. It's most-downloaded. I know many people that have downloaded avatar in HD because their new blu-ray copies of avatar can't be played.

Not necessarily. I watched Avatar on DVD on my 10+ year old TV and it was just fine. The scene where arrives and is recognized as Tourk Makto, and the scene where they destroyed Hometree both looked great despite having a poor TV and only a DVD.
