Avatar vs. TRON: Legacy

I'm in a bit of a dilemma, and I would like a discussion about this. The new TRON movie has put me in a problem. It might be overtaking Avatar as my favorite movie. For those who have seen both movies, which one do you like better?

Woodsprite 01-17-2011 12:06 AM

Since Avatar and Tron are two totally different films, and both have their strengths and weaknesses when compared (yes, I think they can be compared), I'll have to say both. Tie.

TRON.

But that may be because I'm a networking student.

And also Quorra.

Definitely Avatar, I liked them both but here is the distinction:

Tron: An epic Movie

Avatar: An epic Experience

I felt like Tron was more of a thriller, while Avatar was a life-changing experience...Avatar wins.

Somehow I doubt that people's lives were changed in a fundamental way from watching Tron. They were with Avatar.

I've seen a lot of movies in my time and Avatar has to be at the top of the list.

Tron Legacy (or Tron for that matter) is nowhere near as good. It's low to average in terms of good films and doesn't make the best 10, or even the best 25.

Davy Jones 01-17-2011 09:10 AM

Tron comes close, but no, it's not first, there are a few movies I like better (like avatar, or, say, inception.

Patrice Maire 01-17-2011 09:13 AM

Both. For reasons already given.
Tron is epic in it's own way as Avatar is epic in it's fashion. Tron is a great thrill ride and has fantastic music, Avatar has depth and technical achievements that are way beyond anything out already.
I'm anxiously awaiting Tron Legacy to come out on dvd so I can watch it several more times. (Seen it three, want at least one more before it leaves the theaters)

...But you never saw the movie. :S

Avatar >> Tron Legacy. People died (one person) for seeing Avatar.

tm20 01-17-2011 09:54 PM

just like concerts, if people died then it had to be awesome

Avatar for me, and I know nothing will ever top Avatar

Woodsprite 01-17-2011 10:19 PM

LotR still tops Avatar, imo. This topic should actually be Avatar vs. LotR.

Human No More 01-18-2011 12:08 AM

LOTR is better than Tron Legacy but doesn't even make it into the top 10. If you wanted a film that really comes close (but still nowhere near as good), try Star Trek: First Contact, or Serenity.

Also, what's the obsession with Tron Legacy's soundtrack? Maybe obvious because I'm a metalhead (exceptions for the kind of epic symphonic music found in most films, which I also like), but I really don't like it that much. I guess you could say it fits the style of the film (although personally, I'm not a subscriber to the 'computers == weird electronic music' at all), but that's about it.

Woodsprite 01-18-2011 12:10 AM

Oh good God no... Just, no. Ugh. LotR is superior to every film, imo, both in acting and heart. I don't think it'll ever be topped. Avatar may have better effects, and Star Trek (whatever version) may have a spanned scale, but LotR is forever. It's a classic that'll never get old, and never lose any audience. Plus, the fact that more people find it appealing all over the world... it garners a mutual respect. I've never met a person, both on the internet and irl, that has disliked LotR.
