Well, I MAY be able to go now!
I need to look into things like the hotel - need to know how much the hotel will be, as well as a rough idea of how much money I will need for other things we do over the meet. This is all very up in the air for now, but if I can get all the detail together, I might be able to work it out. I also need to know things like how to get from the airport to the hotel (price, method, time) - so really, if someone can summarise the happenings including what will happen on each day then that will be very helpful. Really, things I need to know: Airport to hotel (distance, method, cost, any other things I should know) Hotel booking (cost, how, etc.) Roughly how much money I will need for everything What exactly so far has been planned (sorry, haven't been paying a huge amount of attention to this thread before) Anything else you think is relevant :) |

About the information: Airport to Hotel transportation: several options from $6.50 to $45. It is all explained in the second newsletter. (see my signature for link) Hotel bookings: We are staying at the travelodge and we get a 15% discount if we fill 10 rooms. All that information is posted earlier in this thread and in the first newsletter (see my signature for link) Hotel is about $150 for weekend and $110 for week nights, and some people are sharing rooms which cuts the cost down significantly. Plans: we haven't really decided on anything so far, mostly just throwing out ideas. Although we have all kind of agreed that Saturday (June 4th) is our Avatar Exhibit main day and a clan dinner that night somewhere. Some ideas that have been tossed out: -Avatar Exhibit *** -Avatar IMAX SPC *** -Urban hiking (kerry park) -Hiking trail (Mount Si) -Space Needle *** -Harbor Tours *** -Woodland Zoo *** -Monorail -Flight Museum *** -Seattle Aquarium *** *** means it is covered in the citypass ticket And you should sign up for the newsletters so that you get all of the up-and-coming information. :) Just send me your email address. |
Right, looks like the monorail it is then. How long is that in terms of time?
If anyone is interested in sharing a room then I can pay half or whatever, that would be ideal, I guess. Do we have any idea who is up for that, or what the status is with bookings at the moment? - I'd really much rather try and save some money there or the hotel is going to end up being very expensive. |

*Falls off chair and peers over the keyboard* That would be absolutely amazing if you could come along, ma tsmukan.:hi: Well Aketuan has passed you details of the hotel, which is like a ten minute walk from the Science Fiction Museum, where the monorail also teminates. The monorail does not go all the way to the airport, but where it terminates is also an interchange for the light rail to Sea-Tac airport. Which is about 15 miles away so no more than a 1/2 hour ride, if that. I'll PM you with some info on my travel arrangements if they are of any help to you. In the meantime it would be great to have you there. I thought I was going to be the only Brit! The last time we met was in Birmingham. It would be quite something if the next time was going to be all the way over in Seattle! As for sharing a room, I'm sure Aketuan can add a request into the next newsletter for you. I'll PM you shortly. Oel ngati kameie, Alan |

Him and I will split a double-bed room. I just don't know if those cost more than the single bed rooms. But yeah, I kinda jumped around a lot when I read that... :DDDDDD Edit: I have booked a double bed room, and for now, it appears that I will be sharing it with HNM. So add two people to whatever tally you had for people who were coming. >:D |

The prices are the same if you have a single bed room or a double bed room. So yeah, definitely more value for money to share...unless you prefer a room to yourself I surpose, which is fair enough for anyone who wants to do that. |
First, I'm so glad to hear you may be able to join us in Seattle, tsmukan HNM! That's great!
Now, as to how to pay for the group admission museum tickets...well, not sure yet, but I think we should get the tickets first (that is, one person should do the purchasing for the group) and then people can either pay via Paypal or just give cash on the day we pick up the tickets (assuming they'll be held at the museum box office for us). Yes, the admission price for individual tickets is $15.00 each (and I think it's even less if you have a Student ID). The group admission rate (for 9 or more people) is a discounted rate of course, but I'll have to check again on what percentage it is. |

And I vote we wait to purchase them for about a month so that others that might join us, have the opportunity to get the group discount. Still...*needs tickets naow!!! :shoop: * |
Alas, I live faaaar away :(

Hello all. I know we've been talking about a place to have a clan meal and I posted a list of restaurants several pages back. I'm going to repost it so everybody won't have to go searching for it. I've included the neighborhood, the kind of food they serve, the price and any other relevant information. I've personally checked all of the websites and they all work. Since I have no idea what everybody likes, I tried to include a little bit of everything. All of these restaurants are in neighborhoods that either border or are fairly close to the Seattle Center.

Thats a great list you have there Fiyerwall. I've had a quick look at them all. I like the one with the 7 layer chocolate cakes......*noooo! must be good!*:xD:
I guess one of the things we need to consider is if we are going to each in small groups or as one clan - I hope we manage to do this at least once all together. But if so we are going to have to plan ahead to reserve tables for each evening. I don't know how many of us there will be but if there are 10 or 15 of us we will probably half fill some of the establishments. The other thing is making sure, if we need it, is to order the taxis in good time too unless they are on a bus route or withing walking distance. I would think most are as we will only be just north of midtown/downtown. There is a restaurant up in the Space Needle too. It would be just cool if we could all go up there for one meal together. It would be like a clan meal up in Hometree! |
I'm going to let you out-of-towners pick where to meet based on proximity and price. I'm easy. :)
However, if you do end up finding yourself at the north end of Lake Union (near the Gas Works Park and University of Washington) one morning, check out Voula's Offshore Cafe, my favorite place for omelets, other egg dishes, hash browns, pancakes--typical breakfast fodder. Awesome, supremely greasy food. :D I've been a regular for more than 25 years. Chances are good that you'll end up sitting next to a university professor, and even the guys doing the cooking are closet intellectuals who'll be happy to discuss the last Stephen Hawking lecture they attended if they know you're interested. |
Ha! Sounds like that could be fun. I could make out I'm some sort of professor from Oxford and talk about string theory or something.:xD:
|
Thanks Fiyerwall for that information about the restaurants. :) I think we have a few to decide from. :P
