Maybe we ought to suggest if they could perhaps tie in with the Science Fiction Museum. You know, like 'for one night only!'. I would think there are still reels of Avatar SE floating about as the Birmingham IMAX has still been playing it through February. I kid you not!:awesome: Quote:
Ok, I'll get mi coat...:xD: |
Great job, Alan! Irayo, tsmukan, for posting all this info (and expanding on what I found).
At this point, from the pricing info I got, it looks like either the Best Western hotel or the Travelodge hotel would work, in terms of best prices and distance from the museum. Alan and I will be staying 5 nights in Seattle (arriving June 2nd and leaving on the 7th) What say the rest of you, clanmates? I think the sooner we choose a hotel and make reservations, the better! Also agree that putting together some kind of list of who's coming that weekend would be good. |
Quote:
Maybe since you and Alan are staying that long you might be interested in climbing Mount Si (not too difficult: 8 miles RT 3,000 ft EG), it looks like some of us are interested in it. I was thinking probably Sunday or Monday... |
Just a quick one as I need to fit some sleep in! HAHAHA...zzzzz...Oh sorry, where was I? Ah yes. I've contacted Best Western Executive Inn Hotel thingy place to see if they can do like a group discount even with us booking individually. They've replied back with a phone number for me to ring. So I'll be chasing that up as soon as I can. And yeah, we really need to start thinking about booking now before all the rooms fill up. I get back as soon as I can.
|
I'm hoping to go around the last week of July. I won't have any leeway in my plans though, if it happens it'll be part of a road trip and pinned down to the hour.

Tentatively I am planning to spend Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday night at the hotel in Seattle. And I would like to double up to save on the cost which would equal about 70-80$ per person per night roughly. Also based on my calculations I will save about $400 by getting an airplane ticket instead of driving up...so I'll see what happens. But anyway this sounds like an awesome adventure! :D It is well worth checking out the website for the museum. There is all sorts of other interesting exhibits worth checking out as well, like some cool sci-fi costumes... http://www.empsfm.org/images/exhibits/ootw/Klingon.jpg and of course the best one: Quote:

I was looking through some Seattle guidebooks and found some hotels that are near Seattle Center. I'm going to post them along with some restaurants listed. I've written down prices slong with what they serve and their websites. This weekend I'm going to do some more hotel research so I can see what fits my budget.

As for when you are arriving at the airport, if I decide to fly to Seattle, I will be arriving at just about the same time you are. Maybe we could meet-up and catch a cab to the hotel together. Oh and about the hotels, we have already somewhat decided on one or two options, probably the Best Western executive that is literally right by the Seattle Museum, and goes for about $160 a night, but with our (possible) group discount and doubling up it should be about $75 per person per night. |

I have got a visitor guide book on Seattle and it do cover a number of urban hikes too. We'll have to sort out what we are doing closer the date. Right now I'm focusing on places to stay....which leads me nicely on to hotels ;) (Did you like how I did that lead in there? He, he, he:xD:) I rang up the number the Best Western Excecutive Inn organisation gave me this evening and spoke to a couple of people. The last person I spoke to has forwarded a request to the hotel to provide us with their best price in the next 24 hours. In fact I've just received a copy of the query form. Apparently a group booking comes in when there are groupd of 10 or more. I'll keep you posted. I'm also going to try the Travelodge which I think is the next street along from the Best Western. @ Fiyerwall - Irayo for all that research. Quite a list you've pulled together there as well as covering places to visit and eat at. We'll have to take a closer look at them closer the date. Great stuff. Here's a question for everyone: Who is 90% sure that they will be coming on that weekend? This is just to get an idea of numbers so we can see what the hotels can do for us. At the moment there appears to be CyanRachel, Miss Tammie, James of Terra, Raiden, Aketuan, Fiyerwall and me. Anyone else? Perhaps someone could post a message on one of the general forums to see if we can stir some more interest from those who don't frequent this meet -up area? Irayo.:hi: Right I'm off to chase up the Travelodge folks... Kiyevame, Alan |

Just a bit of an update. I've send an enquiry to the Travelodge and also an enquiry to the IMAX cinema just round the corner from the Science Museum about showing Avatar SE 3D on the Saturday evening. I've also asked if they would show our Avatar Fan Communities film too. We'll just have to wait and see what their replies are now. I'll post the responses as soon as I get them. :hi:Alan |

Also, just for fun I started a "Seattle Trip Flight Plan" Map. Everyone can put a pin on where they are and add their flight plan to Seattle with username/dates/anything... I already added mine as an example. Here is the thread with the instructions. and Here is the direct link to the map. |

I rang up the Best Western Inn folks up with the number that they gave me and they took the details. Anyway I got a response back, but they think I'm a tour operator with a bus!!! HAHAHAHA. So I've sent a reply back to them explaining things so clearly you could call it a window! :P Lets hope it comes good this time. I've also contacted the Travelodge, which is a coupls of streets away, last night by email, but haven't heard anything yet. The other correspondence I've sent was to the IMAX in Seattle regarding the showing of Avatar SE 3D. Again I haven't heard anything from them yet. I also mentioned the forum film too and sent a link. You never know. It would be cool to see our forum film up there to share with everyone with Avatar. That would be a just an outstanding night if we get Avatar shown that weekend.:awesome: It would be a real opportunity for them at the IMAX. Still, we'll have to see what happens. Quote:
I'll get back as soon as I here anything from the hotels and IMAX. |
Kaltxi Folks,
I just had to post this up straight away for you. I've had a response from the IMAX in Seattle and here's what they have to say: "I am responding a recent inquiry from you about the possibility of running Avatar SE in 3D at the Boeing IMAX Theater in Seattle in conjunction with the opening of the Avatar Exhibition at the Science Fiction Museum. We are currently looking into the possibility to do this, however it would be a great challenge to do this because of other film obligations we have during the very busy summer months. At this time it is impossible to say whether or not we’d be able to do this. I will keep your email on hand so that I can keep you informed with any updates." So it's not definie, but they are looking into it. Let's beg the help of Eywa... |
Quote:
This sounds promising, Alan. Irayo, tsmukan, for contacting the IMAX, and posting their response. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. |
Quote:
Eywa, pleeaaase!! :awesome: (Envisions streams of sea gulls and crows descending upon IMAX theater--hmmm... seems a bit more like Alfred Hitchcock than Avatar, but it'll do!) |
Quote:
WOW....:shock:what a AVATASTIC idea!! HAHA! Would that not be the ultimate or what if they would be willing to do this. I hope they might consider looking into it seriously, if anything maybe just play it one night that opening weekend perhaps. Irayo ma tsmukan for going above and beyond making this a trip we will all never forget! Looking forward to meeting you in person along with all my fellow Avatarian friends from here, AF, TYPE and the other forums. Eywa ngahu! :) |
Quote:
Kaltxi Alan, You know me, I am going FOR SURE, 100%! ;-) Thanks for all your dedication and time you have spent finding out such great info on Seattle my sweet friend and a huge thanks to everyone else sharing info too!! Love ya guys! |

EDIT: I contacted them with this: Hello, I am planning to visit the Science Fiction Museum during the opening weekend of the "Avatar Exhibit." I was wondering what the possibilities were for having a few showings of Avatar in the IMAX theater during that first week. I realize that your IMAX schedule is probably filled for the summer, but I am sure that if you have a few viewings during that first week (June 4th), there would be a lot of interest from the visitors at the sci-fi museum. Thank you for help, -Kevin Lets hope it works... :) Also everyone should add their pin to the trip google map (thread here) So I think here is where we are at... People Attending (90% sure): -Alan -Eywa's Pet -James of Terra -Aketuan -Misstammie -Cyanrachel -Raiden -Fiyerwall (?) HOTEL: Two possibilities: -Best Western Executive (group discount at 10 people) -Travelodge (waiting on response) Possible Activities: -Avatar Exhibit at Sci-Fi Museum :D -IMAX viewing of Avatar SE 3D (Waiting on information) -Other Sci-fi exhibits -Seattle aquarium -Mount Si hike -Space Needle -other ideas?? |

Hey and thanks for summarising the story so far. Good job there matey.:) You could add an urban hike that could take us to Kerry Park, which has excellent views of Seattle and Mount Rainier as well as take in the shops on Queen Anne Avenue...well so the guide book sez! Ohh and I've also had a reply from the Travelodge...;) |
Quote:
Kerry Park sounds like a worthwhile place to visit. :) |

I'm still working out the details with them and once I do I'll post them here for folks to get booking...providing it all comes good of course. It would also be great for the details to be posted on the other Avatar related forums too for those who intend coming to the Avatar Exhibition weekend. The Travelodge is like 30 seconds away from the Best Western. I haven't heard back from the the Best Western folks yet, but I'll keep you all posted. As they say, watch this space....>______< I've also replied back to the IMAX lady thanking her for her response and with a few words of encouragement...as yer do ;) |
Quote:
I'm going to do some more Seattle research this weekend and I'll also look up the two hotels just to see what I can find. I'll be staying until Monday the 6th and my plane will leave around noon. Since I'll only have 2 full days, personally I'd like to visit the Aquarium along with the Avatar exhibit. I love aquariums and James Cameron said that he planned on showing us more of the oceans of Pandora so maybe we could see what he has in store for us. :) This is not set in stone, but it would be my top choice for other attractions to see. |
Quote:
Also, about the activities, we can decide that once we have the major important stuff down, however it doesn't hurt to come up with some pre-plans. :P I was thinking that depending on if Eywa's Pet can get work off on Monday, to do the hike up to Mount Si on Sunday or Monday, as it also relates to the movie as being out in our nature here on Earth... I also really like the aquarium idea...One thing is for sure, Saturday is all out Sci-Fi Museum and possibly Avatar IMAX viewing. Quote:
This raises the question of how we want to book? Do we want to pair off and split rooms between 2 people, and maybe have one person book the room and the other pay for their half when we arrive?? Any ideas? |
Ok folks,
Update time on the hotel front. I tell you the Travelodge lady is really doing us proud. Ok, here's the deal: Avatar Clan Gathering for Exhibition Opening 4th June: As part of the opportunity to try and bring the Avatar Clans together for the opening of Avatar Exhibition on 4th June in Seattle, we have been able to get a group booking deal with the Travelodge, only ten minutes walk from the Science Fiction Museum. The deal is as follows:
In order for them to 'reserve' a set of rooms for us, we need to get back to them as soon as possible with the numbers of people who intend going and what type of room is required: 'single double bed' or 'twin bed' room. So if you could get back to me as soon as possbile, preferable before Wednesday, but ideally over the weekend. Then I can get back to the Travelodge to finalise and get back to you with the booking details and contact info. Finally we need to let the other Avatar forums know about this too, so all the clans can be together. I have asked CyanRachel if she would be willing to forward the message to Avatar Prime and Na'viBlue. I can do Avatar Forums, Avatar Wiki and LearnNa'vi. If anyone is on any other Avatar fan forums, please feel free to forward the above message and report back on numbers to me so we can get booking. Irayo everyone for your patients. I think we have the makings of a wonderful and memorable weekend in Seattle..yeah, we may even be sleepless in Seattle..hmm...that sounds like a good film title! :xD::xD: Oel ngati kameie soon, Alan |
Wow -- Irayo for all this great info, Alan! Sounds like it might work out well with the Travelodge.
I'll post this news on the other Avatar sites. Now, when you mentioned the 2 types of rooms, can I assume the "twin bed" room is a room with 2 twin size beds? I don't have a roommate at present, but I was planning on reserving a room with 2 beds (either double size or twin size) so in the event there's a tsmuke in need of a room, she and I can room together. Also, here's some more news... This week I sent the following email to the Box Office at the museum in Seattle: Hello. I have some questions re: tickets for admission and "Avatar: The Exhibition" opening on 6/4/11: - Can a group of 8 or more get a group rate on admission to the museum? - Does general admission (or group admission) *include* admission to the Avatar exhibit, or are there separate tickets for this exhibit? If they're separate tickets, when do they go on sale? If the exhibit is included with the main admission, then when can the admission tickets be purchased? If someone could please let me know re: any or all of the above, I'd greatly appreciate it. And here's the response I received: "A group of 9 or more will receive a 10% discount on admission tickets. General/group admission will include entrance to the Avatar exhibit after its opening on June 4th. You can purchase tickets in advance online at anytime or you may also purchase tickets at the door on or after opening day. If you have any more questions, please feel free to send them my way. Thank you for your interest in EMP/SFM -- we look forward to your visit." Sami Collier Reception & Box Office Assistant So I wanted to post this info here to share. Looks as though we can purchase tickets for the Avatar exhibit in advance, as in *now*, and not have to wait. Should we wait to purchase as a group (if we're going to be 9 or more for opening day)? |
Quote:
Great stuff with the Avatar exhibition group tickets. It's going to be like one big family outing! :xD: Alan |
Cool thanks for the info, I will contact you all when I book so that we can get the beift of group booking!!!
|
So I have decided that unfortunately I can not go on the trip...
...Just kidding ;) , I just booked my flight!!! I am arriving in Seattle at 6:18 pm on Friday and leaving at 7:00 pm on Tuesday. :D Quote:

Sounds good, I guess we should wait to get our final booking done till we know who exactly is going... but we shouldn't wait much longer than a week, so that everything is finalized. So.. I figure once we have all booked our rooms and flights, we can get to the fun stuff!! :D Over the next couple of months we should get an itinerary going with what we are going to do each day. (meals, exhibits, urban hiking, ect...) So feel free to throw out suggestions! Also we have four pins/lines on our Seattle Trip map, anyone else who is going is welcome to add themselves to the map here. |
What up all? I looked up some more info on Seattle, mostly in the areas around the Seattle Center.

The Magnolia neighborhood is northwest of the Seattle Center. If you look up a map of Seattle, this becomes much easier to understand. I checked and their are no major parades or festivals during the 1st weekend in June. |
I forgot to thank Alan for all his work on the hotel plans and CyanRachel for her work on the tickets to the exhibit. It may not be much, but hopefully the info above will help some people out. Irayo to everyone involved in this adventure! :)

I'll be back with some more updates on accommodation, but right now I have work to fit in :( Still it's paying for the trip :) Until then Eywa ngahu, Alan |
Kaltxi, Aketuan.
In answer to your question about the museum tickets, general/group admission *includes* admission to the Avatar exhibit *and* all other exhibits in the museum (so if you want to see other exhibits in the museum besides Avatar, you can). Kaltxi, Alan. Irayo for answering my question about the hotel room beds -- appreciate it. |
Quote:
Also I have looked up an interesting package deal... for $60 you can buy a "Seattle City Pass" that includes tickets for all of the neat attractions in Seattle. So if we plan on visiting most of these, we could really save some money... City Pass Quote:
Pacific Science Center - You get admission and one 3D or 2D Movie ticket - Has the IMAX (Avatar???), butterfly, insect world, star wars... Seattle Aquarium - You get one admission to all of the exhibits including the massive underwater dome! Seattle Harbor Tour - you get a one hour narrated harbor tour Science Fiction museum/experience music project - you get admission to both museums What could we do at the sci-fi museum... ;) One ticket to either the flight museum OR the Woodland Park Zoo - you get admission to one of the two |

And it seems we won't be short of places to eat with the list Fiyerwall has found. Well, I've had a reply from the Travelodge regarding booking rooms there. They have been so flexible for us. Just read this extract: "There’s no time that you have to give me more firm numbers by. As of right now, we have plenty of rooms available, but within the next couple months we’re going to start getting a lot reservations for that time of year. I would recommend letting me know within the next month. You don’t have to worry about doing it in the next few days." I guess the question now is how we go about co-ordinating room sharing? I know that the lady at the Travelodge has said there is no rush, but we really need to get our skates on to make sure we don't end up disapointed. Perhaps the best way is for people to co-ordinate amongst their friends to arrange room sharing and take it from there? It might be a bit long winded and difficult to centrally co-ordinate a list of people attending from 6 different Avatar Fan forums me thinks :S It might be a nice surprise to get there and actually see who has arrived! But I'm open to suggestions. |

About the keeping things straight with other forums thing. I suggested a mass email system on LN and I think it would be the perfect solution. When a thread on one of the forums is updated with critical information or anything worth mentioning, we would just let everyone on the contact list know the details. It would be a lot less messy than dealing with 6 separate threads. If everyone is ok with it, I volunteer to get the emails put together and monitor all of the threads for info. I could send out two types of emails. One for urgent new information, and another for fun information about the trip. When new info is added it would be sent to everyone interested in going. |
