I've been trying to enjoy this game, but so far it's just frustrating most of the time.

The story, dialogue and voice acting are awesome as can be expected from Bioware, but when it comes down to game mechanics, that's where this game falls flat. Most of the time fights are either too easy or way too hard. That is either the fights are total and complete clustercuss where one can't properly use aoe spells, or they are too easy when you just chain spam all aoe and crowd control spells into a huge army of monsters so that their numbers become meaningless.

Mages, spells and all things ranged are op, whereas melee is useless most of the time and tanking is only needed in special fights where mobs hit like a freight train. I don't really understand the whole underlying philosophy of this game, because coming from Kotor that was fully awesome, to this, makes me wonder why they didn't just improve upon those mechanics rather than going with the whole WoW party system where you have to have dps, tank and a healer.

Have you played Dragon Age 2?
Much better mechanics in regards to battle. And the voice is acting is great. However, it's much shorter and you learn very little about the characters.

I've played Divinity 2 Eco Draconis but not Dragon Age. The chief reasons being that 1. You kill dragons and 2.It's an expensive game.
Although the party members look like they incredible skills. Especially the magic wielding woman. ;)

I was never a fan of the shape shifting.
I was always a spirit healer/arcane warrior

In that case I rather not play it at all, since DA 1 is a great game when you exclude all the combat. Mostly I just abuse my way through battles, like setting the difficulty to easy so that aoe spells don't have friendly fire anymore.

It's more fun talking to people rather than doing countless of amounts of meaningless filler battles that serve no purpose other than stretching out the game. It's just so boring to fight all the time when it's mostly just click and wait with little else to do. The other alternative is to micromanage your entire party all the time, but that gets extremely tiresome pretty fast, seeing how there's a battle waiting behind every freaking corner.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.

Melee...weak? You sir have obviously never optomizied a rogue. I can oneshot pretty much all regular mobs, and it only takes me a few seconds to down elites. Got to love having a 80% crit chance and +200% crit damage!

If you're an arcane warrior, you're basically invincible.

With melee, it's all about the gear, and if you can't find good gear, then your damage is made of fail.

Which is why playing this game on the PC rocks! Winterforge is an awesome mod that lets you make and enchant your own gear. As long as you put the time in to doing it you can have insanely good gear early on.

Also Warden's Keep has a great bug in it where if you sell your stuff to the Blacksmith and then buy it back he will "level" it up to the highest level you can currently find/use. If you do it early you can have Silverite and Dragonbone gear by around level 10 or so!
