Well duh. It's Japan. They love stuff like Avatar. :P

Avatar is statistically the most popular movie in most countries of the world.... But apparently the U.S.A likes Hurt Locker more *facepalm

At least some awards ceremonies recognize AVATAR as THE BEST unlike SOME award ceremonies in Hollywood...ummm THE STUPID and WORTHLESS ACADEMY AWARDS, the joke of HOLLYWOOD! :Like I mentioned, AVATAR got the shaft BIG TIME last year and I will NEVER watch that again!!! I agree with X.,.Pandora.,.X said! Yeah and where is the HURT LOCKER now? where is it? where are the fans? where is the HURT LOCKER movie forums? I bet you find the movie in the bargain bins at WALMART! HAHA You get the idea! LOL;):xD::rolleyes:

There are three reasons they gave it the award:
1. For the novelty of a female director - they decided they were going to give it to one and she was the only one
2. Politics (oh look, a pro-Iraq war film won? In America? Over a much better and more successful film with a message about what militaries REALLY do? I wonder why  )
3. They don't like JC. The only reason Titanic won (which I don't particularly like personally, but it is still admittedly a good film) is because they had already not given him the awards he deserved for The Abyss (a far better film than Titanic), and doing so again would lose them all credibility.

HNM!!! You nailed it ma tsmukan, it was all politically driven! Like I mentioned below, I will NEVER watch the ACADEMY'S EVER AGAIN!!! They are BANNED in my house. Not only was I pissed off AVATAR didn't best picture, it totally should have AT LEAST won for best music score too. James Horner rules!! ;)

I'm starting a thread.

Yes, that's exactly right and I'm so sorry that the academy wanted to crush and ruin Cameron's masterpiece Avatar for just a worthless piece of crab named Hurt F*cker!
But, now the most important thing is that the Avatar experience connected with people all around the world. We got that message, we impressed by that experience and now were are here for ever!

They didn't even bring The Hurt Locker back to the cinemas (in my region) after it won the Oscars (unlike Slumdog Millionaire a year before, and that one was worth the Oscars). I downloaded Hurt Locker from internet, it was a good movie, but not that special that it will be remembered a long time after or re-watched.
On German TV ("ZDF" channel) there was a year-review with the most important national and international events of 2010 (about 3-4 events per month on a 45 min. show). Avatar was mentioned for its impact and success, but not a word of the oscars.

Human No More 02-26-2011 01:26 AM

That just shows it - it isn't often at all when a film is considered a significant event, and certainly not in the year it was released :D
