Allowed for what? What are your plans for this movie :P

Fosus 11-12-2011 03:39 PM

Just a small note for an improvement: her wrists look a bit too thin in my opinion.

But good work! Impressive. Take your time with the animation :)

Well to call it movie is a bit stretched, it will only be a few minutes long :P
I will use the short in my own showcase of my 3d work, other then that i plan to render a 2d and 3d version and put it online :)

And yes from some angles, especially when twisted the wrists are bit too thin. Changed that a little but the base model already has thin wrists and im not going all the way back to change that. Just want to make a start with the animation and finish up Jake :)
Not too clear but the changed wrists are in the image below, the image is accidentally rendered at too high res so you might have to zoom to get it 1:1

Last pic in this Neytiri thread for now, time to finish Jake

Agreed... And no more Neytiri pictures? I'm dissapoint :P Sad Neytiri as last picture isnt nice :( :P

fierox 11-13-2011 11:06 PM

ow.. sorry guys.
If you would like to see a certain pose ill be happy to do that.
Especially tough ones to challenge the models rig :)

Moco Loco 11-14-2011 04:20 AM

The pose before this last seems like it would've been tough :P I'd be curious to see her holding something, maybe a spear.

Maybe... A picture where she is happy and jumping around? :awesome: Ok not really jumping around... since then you would have to make a clip... :P

tm20 11-14-2011 08:53 AM

if possible can you pose her with her weapons (if you've made them) so her firing an arrow or holding her knife would be awesome

Holding? why not throwing it :D

And yeah thats the problem atm, i dont have any props yet.
A spear was pretty easy to do quickly (so its not perfect), her knife i plan to do later and will be as detailed as the rest so that image will have to wait.

So awesome.

tm20 11-14-2011 09:52 PM

that's cool :D spear looks good. i can still see the pink on the palm of her hand though, is that just something to do with lighting?

mikkowilson 11-14-2011 10:41 PM

Her loincloth has some issues in the shot with the spear.

hmmm could you explain in what way?
I think its because she spreads her legs pretty wide in that pose and her loincloth doesnt stretch along.
The piece of cloth behind the loose part of her loincloth does stretch (to make sure her private parts stay hidden in poses like this) so it turns out wider.
Guessing thats it, another thing might be the collision detection, the settings are really safely set atm to allow for running etc. (not bouncing through skin or get all twisted).
Ill see how it goes, i could do two versions, one with settings for the slow paced scenes and one with different settings for the fast ones.
Also keep in mind that now i'm setting them up like action figures in a single pose. Her cloth, hair and other dynamics should behave better when its all animated, well hopefully that is! :D

http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...ox-d4g5tf5.jpg

Oh and thx mikko, the fact that the image of sad Neytiri can bring that sad feeling over to the viewer is what i consider a big compliment! I hope i can achieve that in my animation aswell. Thats actually one of my main goals for the animation.

mikkowilson 11-15-2011 01:15 AM

The right part of the waistband of her loincloth appears to be missing.

- Mikko

Pa'li Makto 11-15-2011 04:51 AM

That's a really fluid pose Fierox. ;) It's really nice. I suppose the loincloth might look a bit thin but it's not too much of an issue.

Human No More 11-16-2011 03:53 AM

:)
It's there - it only has one part on one side. I think the loincloth is partly sideways on, which is why it appears thin.

Pa'li Makto 11-16-2011 05:05 AM

True, I think that's what Mikko meant to say but couldn't find the right words to say it.

Moco Loco 11-16-2011 09:31 PM

:D Nice shot! For the first time, I think I have nothing to add :)

Yeah its hard to do that without turning it into an animation.
Perhaps something like this?

Hehe that makes me smile just seeing it! :)

Her hair looks a tiny bit short, but maybe it's just because of the bounce.

Excellent :awesome: love it, made me smile when i saw it :love2: so mission successful :P

fierox 12-05-2011 02:58 AM

For my animation i need a bow for Neytiri.
Its only visible briefly but i still want a proper Na'vi bow.
Couldnt find too many reference pics so before i start adding color, what you guys think?
Oh and i believe the arrows are fitted on the bow aswell right?

http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...ox-d4i74jn.jpg

Pa'li Makto 12-05-2011 06:50 AM

Hmm I think the bow looks pretty accurate, maybe check the string to see if there are any silencers, they could look like a few beads along the string or something like this:

http://www.abbeyarchery.com.au/mm5/g...2_00v2_med.jpg

As for the arrows, I think the Na'vi hold the arrows alongside the bow vertically as they move.

This is the only shot I can find though:

tm20 12-05-2011 10:36 AM

awwwwwwwwwww yeeeeeeaaaaaaah that bow look really cool :)

fierox 12-06-2011 01:13 AM

Thx and thx also for the added picture!
Pretty cool those silencers never knew those existed :)
The arrowhead seemed a bit too big in the above picture so i kinda went my own way there :shy:
No idea how the arrows are actually attached to the bow so i made sort of a clip, like a clothes pin so they can be removed quickly.

http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...ox-d4ia25j.jpg

Pa'li Makto 12-06-2011 05:10 AM

No problem. :)
Nice arrowheads by the way. :D
I don't think the arrows are actually attached to the bow ma tsmukan, I've just seen the Na'vi hold them with the same hand they hold the bow in. A clip might be too fiddly for them to use while hunting or fighting.

mikkowilson 12-06-2011 06:04 AM

Awesome solution with the clips. I may just have to make something like that for mine.

However in the movie, the most Na'vi bows appear to have some sort a wrap (a leaf? leather? wood?) at the handle that wraps around the arrows and holds them in place even if the bow isn't being held - such as when it's worn on one's back.

I haven't found any suitable natural material to make one for my bow, as it's got some slick properties: It holds one or two (or more?) arrows, and you simply "turn" an arrow and it "unwraps" from the wrap, without dropping the other arrow.

I guess it's all easy to make work in CGI; especially when they don't show it exactly up close in the film. :P

- Mikko

Pa'li Makto 12-06-2011 11:35 PM

Hey that rings a bell..:) Hopefully someone can supply some pics to help Fierox.

Human No More 12-07-2011 12:31 AM

Their arrows are held to the bow, it looks like using some form of wrapping around them at the front that's on the bow, see image 3.

fierox 12-07-2011 02:06 AM

Hmmm feels a bit like they took the easy way there with a leaf wrap that can open and close in a way tough enough to hold the arrows when they wear it on the back. I can imagine you couldnt find a suitable material for that mikko :)
Anyway if thats how its done ill try to figure out something like a wrap that could work.

And thanks for thinking along on this and posting those screenshots. I really like that scene, there is something feral in the movement of Neytiri in the first scenes that i dont really see much in the Navi for the most of the rest of the movie. Really want to try to capture that. its pretty hard though, did some acting for jake sofar for the first scene and well its not something i want to share on youtube haha. Oh well i only need to act out references for myself and animate the rest :p

Moco Loco 12-07-2011 07:02 PM

You can take the easy way too if you're careful about the angle :P
Good luck :) This whole project seems like a real challenge.

fierox 12-10-2011 01:52 AM

Thx! and yeah its a massive project for me. Sometimes a bit too much.
I enjoy working on it alot tho and i just focus on the thing im working on :)

Oh well the bow is about done, was much harder then i thought it would be to get the bow rigged for wearing, aiming and shooting an arrow.
The bow itself is not perfect but i'm pretty happy how it turned out. My main goal is the animation now so i didnt want to go too deep in detail and textures since it wont be used in any close-ups.

http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs71/f/20...ox-d4imwd4.jpg

and a close up after one of the reference images earlier :)

Tsyal Makto 12-10-2011 02:58 AM

So. :love2: Awesome. :love2:

Pa'li Makto 12-10-2011 03:24 AM

WOW!!

I'm really impressed. Nice work as usual Fierox. :) You put a lot of work into the bow and the poses. Even the arrow holder.

Human No More 12-10-2011 03:29 AM

Txantsan :D

Nice job with the arrow holder :)
