Added the tuft of hair on her tail and alot of other little things. Just finished cleaning up the scene and testing if stuff like the hair still works. Well its been a bit quiet since there is nothing pretty to update yet, still working on the technical part. Added most of the joints of her skeleton. Also some controls (the symbols around her) that drive the joints so animating her will be easier. This all wont be visible in a render btw, its only there to make her move. cant wait to see this in motion. are you also creating an environment for her to run around in? maybe you could make a mod for the Avatar PC game? add her in as a playable character some how :D and what are the spirlas infront of her knees?

The symbols like the spirals etc are for the animator, when you move those, the 3d neytiri model will move.
This way the animator doesnt have to animate all the joints but just those items. Its a nice way to make animating easier, faster and alot more fun. Ill show later on :) Havent made an enviroment yet, better finish this first :P No i wont be making anything for the avatar pc game, they came so close to making it awesome, only to rush it into a mediocre game, a shame really. Lovely world but character development? and why did the Navi look so weird. oh well I still enjoyed it, but only the fan side of me. Dont think any work/mod is being done on it also? Will be doing a short animation tho, just no idea what yet, haha so the wrong way of starting a project, oh well. |
I guess the game just didn't have enough of a playerbase to really inspire much. It's a shame, the game was so rushed, and it could have been great :(
The Na'vi models and textures were just bad (and for some reason, the player was worse than the NPCs), yet Pandora itself was amazing, especially in the night part. Don't even get people started on the language :P |
The environment was definitely brilliant but the Na'vi looked cartoonish. I know that ubisoft could do better if they were given the time.

Well another part done, yay!
The skeleton and animation controls are done! Learned some cool new things, been through lots of tutorials, pdfs and old notes of my own and everything works! Was a real study this, pfew! Finally also documented every step into a little manual for my own so this will go lots faster next time :P The red icons all over her are all the controls needed to animate her, they just need to be dragged, rotated etc and she will move accordingly, should make things so much easier and faster. Thx for keeping interest while progress is slow.
Im mostly busy with weighting how her skin is attached and influenced by her joints. Well, so much has changed since the last time i did this im actually mostly learning and trying :) And it has been lovely weather here, had to get some sun aswell, sorry :P Below a quick render of a known and quite extreme pose, its a good test of how the skin holds out. Skin looks oke in normal poses, this shows im not quite done yet :( Its just a work in progress tho, not done with this part yet. Also just noticed her head looks rather big and her legs small in the render. Pretty sure that has todo with the lens part of how the camera works. I use the standard settings and things get a little fish-eye-ish now and then. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-T...prntscrn44.jpg Maya has its own muscle system on board. With this joints and muscles actually drive the skin. Experimented with that in past but now its a very extensive built in feature. Doing some tests with that atm, looks awesome and will bring things just a bit further! Anyway its mosly study but thats also why i started this. On the positive side, should i start with Jake later things would go so much faster. Also did some facial blends already, cause its fun to do (facial features/poses) and a nice break from the skin trouble above. Not finished by far but ill give u one to get an idea :P Below is 75% sad face (mouth area), it works by controlling sliders to mix different faces/emotes. Well sorting the skin weights has been going far better then i expected earlier, i might not need to add muscles to drive the skin. The changes in Maya are really awesome :) So ill see, muscles would add a little dept maybe but i might save that for a more muscular character. Anyway also another little update on her skin some of the guys here might enjoy. BTW i made a post in the fan fiction request section. Since work on Neytiri is getting done its time to think about what to put in a short animation, what it would be about and what else i would need (Jake, another char, etc). It cant be that much obviously cause its alot of work :P Perhaps someone wants to join in? |
