Destruction of Hometree
 

This scene, combined with the sound and music, makes it a very powerful and emotional scene. The destruction of Hometree is one of those things that makes Avatar such an amazing film.

Looking back at my first viewing of Avatar, I remember feeling a strong sense of dread when I realized the home of the Omaticaya was going to be destroyed. It was absolutely devastating. This scene brings me to tears every time.

What about you? Is it difficult for you to watch the destruction of Hometree? What feelings have you experienced while watching this scene?

Well, just listening to the song already invokes sad memories of that particular scene, so its not surprising that its the way you say it is :)

Watching that particular scene had a massive impact on me in the cinema, especially the sound is fantastic.

When that CS40 round pops in the middle on a huge navi group, the sound is so high pitched it always hurts your ears just a bit - perfect, as it makes you feel ' terror '.

The fact that you can hear the rockets going over your head, and feel the explosions in your chest.

The editing is outstanding ( Oscar Doh ? )

I listen to the entire soundtrack alot, and the ones where i remember scenes from the film is ' The destruction of hometree ', 'War', And ' You dont dream in cryo'.

It just says how great the music is... really.

The scene is amazing... I dropped a tear everytime at it, it gives me goosebumps and it makes me angry for being human, for being part of the ones who really do that on Earth.

They did it with Home-Tree, they did it with the Forest of Voices too... that's why here we won't have any tree sooner than we imagine.

A friend of mine got angry too, and he started to understand, and many people started to understand why these scenes were brought to us (again) so we can understand that our nature needs us more than ever, that we need nature more than ever.

Listening to the soundtrack makes me cry... every single time. I even cried at work on multiple occasions listening to the soundtrack for this scene. Its so emotional and powerful... because to the Na'vi, it wasn't just a tree... it was their home, where they've lived in for years! So many memories, treasures, it was part of nature, a living thing, and when the R.D.A. shot down Hometree for some cheddar, it made me sick. I cry like no other during that scene... I have to keep from sobbing out loud so hard thats how hard it hits me. A very powerful and emotional scene

It's just too sad. Makes me cry every time. I always feel unhappy when I know it's coming up, because I don't want to see it, but at the same time, I think it's what really gives me a connection to the Na'vi :'(
When I'm feeling PAD, I can't even listen to the soundtrack from it, or I would get too depressed.

A very strong and emotional scene. Made me cry every time I have seen it so far.

Yes, this part is absolutely devastating for me. Not so much the attack on hometree, but the aftermath. All the Omaticaya on their knees wailing and crying hysterically is such a strong scene and so reminiscent of what we see after natural disasters here on Earth. Such a sense of loss and hopelessness... It makes me cry my eyes out every single time. :'(

I don't know how anyone could not cry at that scene.

^^ this. another thing that was so... terrifying was when the tree was coming down, and right before it hit the ground it showed some Na'vi running, and then ear shattering blood curling screams, and then silence as the tree crushes them. I'm seriously starting to cry right now, those screams echoing through my head, the sadness of a beautiful Na'vi body and mind being lost...

The thought of that brought that scene back into my mind, now I am too :'(

Exactly. I think this is also why it touches us so much. Hometree was their home where many of them were born, grew up, mated, died, etc. It held a lot of memories for them. I also was very angry when the tree of voices was bulldozed. That was one of their sacred sites. It was very special because you could hear the voices of the ancestors and the RDA had the gall to destroy it. I have a special love for sacred sites. There are many that are important to me and if anything should happen to any of them, I would be very, very angry. I also would be angry if someone else's sacred site was destroyed. Its very terrible and shows a lack of respect and empathy to other people's beliefs just as the RDA showed a lack of empathy to the Na'vi and their beliefs.

the Tree of Voices was another one that hurt me :'(

The hopelessness of it all, it's strange, I was just listenning to the 'Destruction of the Hometree on the soundtrack not long ago and the bit that resonates with me is from 5.20 onwards.You know how smells can remind you of something, this part of the song brings it all home for me as well.

In my last viewing, someone laughed when Neytiri's father died and she was crying out loud. It made me so angry I was about to go violent.. and that's a feeling i have had only few times in my life. Truly. Horrible. Scene.
