BBC "The Trap" (2007) - how paranoia became part of this culture
We just rediscovered a great video series from the BBC - I don't know if you all have seen it before as it is from 2007, if not I think it is a great watch (3 parts a 60 min)
The Trap - 1 - F*k You Buddy The title is "The Trap" and it describes very detailled how a mechanistic worldview and specifically a mechanistic view of humans in the shape of "game theory" invented by a paranoid schizophrenic during the cold war became the foundation for our current society, picture of human nature and general worldview, including concepts like neoliberalism, free markets, globalization, individualism. I find it is a viable exploration of how even more insanity crept into this culture and shaped it into a even more crazy form of industrial capitalism. I also find the part on the Yanomami indians very interesting - they first serve as an example of how indigenous people also are violent, selfish and brutal - but later (in part 2) that is resolved...(I'm not going to spoiler it ;) ) Enjoy and be amazed on how strange ideas can creep into the general culture and how good intentions can easily turn into the worst results when combined with wrong and simplified models. |
Wow, this looks great, can't wait to see it. You come up with the neatest stuff.
