New Monitor

My 9 year old gateway CRT 15" monitor smoked itself to death. It was sad, very sad, only but it was time. I did some research and narrowed down my choice to this HP 2511x 25" monitor. It's absolutely amazing and the jump from 15 to 25 takes some getting used to lol.

The monitor displays pictures with amazing texture and quality.

I noticed when browsing TOS, it stretches the background so I'm seeing alot more of pandora's beautiful forest while browsing the forum. Nice!

I have my blu ray player hooked up to this and it plays Avatar just like my 46" HD TV does, crisp and clear.

I highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking to upgrade. It's about $270 on amazon.

Nice

I bet it feels good to have so much space :)

Yeah it does. It's nice having two windows opened fully side by side without having to use the alt-tab to switch back and forth.

Very nice :)

What's the resolution on it?

Very nice. Like you, I tend to wait for my technology to self-destruct or otherwise become non-functional before replacing it, and so I'm presently using an 8-year-old display (LCD, though--boy was it $$$ 8 years ago!). My biggest gripe about it is that it's got a 4:3 aspect ratio, and with all the 16:9 HD video I work with these days, the letterboxing has gotten annoying. <starts chanting: Smoke, smoke, smoke, ... SMOKE!!> ;)

Only stopped using my 15-year-old Logitech mouse in December! What a product!! (and it still works--new computer just came with a new mouse)

Yeah, same here with old tech, I like to find creative uses for it to keep it out of the landfill, much to the dismay of my mom. (Seriously, I'll find a use for that stack of PII compaqs... Someday)

Also, judging by the fact that the monitor smoked, and didn't pop and shoot out flames, it sounds like the flyback transformer went out. If you still have the monitor, you could get an old television flyback from ebay for $1, change the winding ratio, do some soldering, and having a working monitor again.

Did you dispose of the old monitor properly? Thats a lot of lead, phosphorous, and cadmium.

Awesome! I've been using a second hand 24" 2407WFP for about 3 years now. It's great, but some of the more recent monitors out there are just mouth-watering.

I have it on the highest setting at 1920 x 1080. It's the same resolution as my 46" samsung.

I still have it. Having a bit of a hard time tossing it because it's been around for so long.

Where should I take it for disposal?

It depends on where you live. I'm guessing you should call city hall or your local recycling center, and you may have to pay a fee.

I found my "new" 19" lcd screen from a trashcan. :P

I got my biggest monitor second hand off ebay, a company were getting rid of a load of them, upgrading I guess.
