PSN pwn'd, me not surprised.

Playstation Network breached, no end to downtime in sight - Hack a Day

Yep, PlayStation Network has been cracked by some blackhats. Sony has changed their story at least twice before actually telling the truth, "Everything that can be accessed has been accessed". This wasted valuble time for those with their primary credit cards associated with PSN to cancel, it has been reported by numerous people that fraudulent charges have been made on their cards. What a disaster, but somehow I'm not surprised. This is Sony we're talking about.

As one comment eloquently put:

Thoughts?

Bummer.

I'll admit to being something of a Sony fanboy, however the PS3 is basically a Blu-ray player that happens to play a few games. Sony's best minds haven't been fully engaged in the video game scene since the original Playstation (One). This is just another symptom of that problem. Even after all these years, many facets of the PS3 are quite half-baked.

There are already class action lawsuits on the books for this incident, and I'm sure Sony will be hemorrhaging money for quite some time as a result of this.

Ouch :(
I feel sorry for anyone who uses it, and I hope there won't be too much trouble with the card details.

PS3 Network = Finance and Security expense.

Fkeu'itan 04-30-2011 12:53 PM

Am I the only one who's kind of 'meh' about this whole thing?

I mean, I had my primary card connected to that, but these days, how hard is it really to just change a few passwords and cards these days? Not really all that difficult. Yeah, it's irritating, but it's no more than a minor irritatnt for me personally. (Having said that, I don't have any money that the hacker in question could steal. :P)

Human No More 04-30-2011 07:54 PM

Considering the delay between when it was actually taken and Sony admitting it, it would be easy for anyone with the database to make some fraudulent charges. Some of those people won't notice, and there's the problem.
Also, Sony, a huge company, not storing data appropriately - it was all in plaintext.

This is why I pay for my service. It's premium, and gets looked after. I'm not starting a fanboy war, God that gets annoying. Tbh, Sony was on the back-foot after the Move was...well....anyway, this isn't good for them.

Human No More 05-04-2011 03:36 AM

With the PC, you get online for free without trusting your data to a company.
...just saying :P

Except your ISP...

Human No More 05-04-2011 08:21 AM

The same ISP your xbox/PS3 data also travels over and not for free? :P

PC companies don't build and sell their equipment below cost.

Well, if by "free" you mean "exposing your credit card and personal information to the world possibly resulting in identity theft", then yes. Free.

Gunny 05-09-2011 04:30 AM

Im kinda meh, I havent played in forever so didnt even know it has been down except someone told me the other day. I never bought anything so only thing anyone got is my name pretty much which I could care less about. Fore everyone else this sucks and all but still wont make me pay for online service. Im sure XBOX could still be hacked by some jackass people also.

Hah.

I'd like to see them try.

A large amount of the money that MSN gets from XBL dues goes to paying for the iron-fisted security measures that they employ.

Is it possible? Of course. But not likely, not by a longshot. Sony practically begged for this to happen eventually, and then they didn't come clean about it for days.

-_- come one, im not even trying to start anything with you but you keep posting these douchy comments to me...please eat a dik

Human No More 05-10-2011 11:25 PM

There is no perfect security. Ever, anywhere with a network connection. The only reason xbox has (presumably) not been as heavily targeted is that MS have been fa more reasonable than Sony.
