Who Else Did Not Notice...
...The bioluminescence on Pandora at first? When jake was being stalked by the Viperwolves, its obvious (when I was looking for it) that the scenery was glowing. Not as noticeable when it's obvious when Jake sees it. I missed it at first. Did anyone else miss it?
The first time I noticed it was when he grabbed his spear out of the water, on my first viewing. Of course, in the 15 times since then, I looked and it is obviously there, just dulled by his fire. It's almost like Neytiri's arrival makes the forest come alive, and I'm sticking with that :D
I saw it, but it was clearly under emphasized until the torch was put out.
I kind of just go with what was stated above that the forest came alive with Neytiri. Because wouldn't he have seen it before hand and had no need for a torch?
I did notice it a bit, but didn't really think about it that much. After the first time, I noticed it more clearly.
yeah i missed it to, i clearly remember that i was focused on the psychotic screaming of the viperwolfs.. and how well constructed the sound was - didnt notice until the torch was extinguished :)
I didn't notice it the first two viewings
it kinda looked like that to me as well
First time I saw it I did not notice until about the same time Jake did.
Like the several posts above^^^
I didn't see it the first time until Neytiri tossed the spear into the water & then the magic happened.....:) |
Then the first thing that pops into my head...
RAVERS FANTASY!!! I got my rave gloves, and DJ equipment! C'mon lets party! |
Party at Hometree!!! :D

i did notice it cause it reminded me of my sal****er tank.
I did notice but not much... only a bit, but then when the fight is over you can see it all at the maximum detail
This is maximum fail but I didn't notice that the Na'vi had 4 fingers until my third time :S
I'm sure I saw them but I didn't realise.... Observation fail :P What else did people fail to notice? |
The bio-luminescence only occurred to me after the torch was put out, like many people above.
I failed to notice a rendering error (no, it's not an artifact from illegal copies) until the second time. The specific error is when Jake and Neytiri clime onto the Toruk for the first time together as he is rallying the Omaticaya as Toruk Makto. The tips of the wings flash white. I didn't notice the dragon painting on the Dragon Gunship the first or second time. I only looked after it was mentioned on Avatar-Wiki that it exists. |
I never noticed that on the Toruk, will have to look for it.
I noticed the dragon on the gunship though. |
I didn't notice the forest glowing until after the torch was put out. I think I noticed it a bit later on possibly the 4th viewing though. I didn't notice the toruk but I did notice the dragon decal on the the ship.
i didn't notice "maya" is the name of trudys samson until like the 11th time. By then i was looking for it, and it's still hard to catch. I also didn't notice the bioluminescence before the spear-chucking incident, until the 10th view. I didn't notice the navi have 4 fingers until the second view. I didn't notice Neytiri has her knife out as soon as jake goes to get his ikran and only puts it away when he makes the bond, until someone pointed it out on AF.
I diet notice the Na'vi mother carrying her baby when they were walking away from Hometree after it fell... When Neytiri turns around ears pulled back in sadness and continues to walk with her mother
I noticed the kid on my first viewing :D

^^That. For one thing I doubt that anything, especially something that obvious would fit through the screening process.
Indeed, it's from the translucent parts at the end of the wings, which are just fairly hard to see in that shot.
I didnt notice it until later viewings. Guess there was so much to take in, that and I guess thats the point that he didnt notice it for a while either.

Yeah I think I missed the bioluminescence too.
I also did not notice the bio-luminsecent dots on the Na'vi's skin at first either, or the fact that they had 4 fingers as opposed to the Avatar's 5... |
I noticed the bioluminescence at first, but it appeared as kind of odd that it lights up so much after 5 minutes, and I don't think it was like "lighting up" because the sun was gone, it was already full night before he lit the torch, the glow would be definitely more apparent imo.
Anyway, when I was in IMAX on Monday, I noticed something that is not on Blu-Ray. It's a rendering error just after the hometree collapsed. Somebody pointed it out with a screencap from the game on AF, but when I checked the BD it was alright. But IMAX has a higher screen so it was there. It's a moment when there is a view on the torn out base of hometree with smoke and debris falling of the roots, just before Quaritch says "tis a good work fellas". Watch the smoke on the top right, it kinda disappears at point where it's cut off on Blu-Ray lol. |
That was the whole idea with it not being obvious until Jake notices it.
But here's a semi-scientific theory: The ambient bio-luminescence is based on the light from the sun, it has a base level that is not as noticeable. When Jake lights the torch it is a more bright light that triggers the luminescence more. Bio-luminescence can be stored from light or ambient and always 'on'. It truly wasn't noticed because there wasn't as much light to trigger it until he lit the torch. |
