2012 Seattle - location for Avatar con 1?

This exhibit continues until 2012. Should we make that the location of Avatar con 1? Will give those of us who need to arrange inter-continental air travel plenty of time to plan ahead.

There has been just about zero activity within Avatar Con, I can say I honestly don't know what is going on there.

On the other hand, 2012 will be fine for me and I can go :D , I would love to meet some people there (and see the exhibit :) )

I'd be in favor.

We discussed as a group last night...

It won't be "avatar con", the opportunity just isn't there for that, yet. But there WILL be a meet up next year. We are going to wait until after the July meet to make any decisions (we want one event, not 2), but the consensus last night was that the exhibit creates a strong anchor for another meet up in seattle june or july 2012.

I'll clear a space in my diary. :)

Just want to avoid late August 2012 (will be at my sister's wedding) and mid November 2012 (will be watching total solar eclipse).

Well, of course 2013 is out--world will have ended by then!

Another Seattle meetup would be shamefully convenient for me, but I would not be sorry to see the Clan again, nor to meet those who couldn't make the first.

It would, of course, be awesome if the next meetup could coincide with additional panels or something similar, although celebrity involvement probably dictates quite a bit of uncertainty--enough to make advance planning difficult for most people. :(

Of course, the 'meetup factor' is/was the most important. (I actually haven't been through the Exhibit yet, believe it or not! Maybe next weekend! :))

August 2012 is risky for me too, at least around the second week and the following couple of days (Bloodstock is always that weekend, and I'd rather not miss it, please don't make me have to make that decision :)). Anywhere in May-July would suit me far better :)

There's a chance I'd be able to be there. Actually I really have no idea what the immediate future has in store for me. :shoop: But Seattle is relatively close to me and after hearing about all the posi vibes going around I would certainly try to make such a trip.

When another meet takes place, without a single doubt, I will attend :D But it goes without saying, the more advance notice, the better. Next summer would be probably be more ideal so everyone could make arrangements. But...if it was sooner, I'd still be down for it with enough notice.

Human No More 06-07-2011 08:33 AM

Well, it should be at least in a few months. Next year is probably best for people to be able to come again.

If most people are thinking summer next year, then how about a poll for month? (May to August perhaps). If we can find out when panels are then definitely go then :)

We will be doing much poling here shortly (when we get ourselves home and de-frazzled).

We'll figure out a bunch of stuff.

No pannels are planned (announced) at this time. However we remain in contact with the Science Fiction Museum / Experience the Music Project with a strong two-way dialogue. Who knows what may be possible.

But; regardless of all these open possibilities. One thing has been decided: There WILL be another meetup somewhere next year. So everyone is on notice for that; and can at least start saving up.

Would be great if we could somehow manage to convince a few more of the people behind to film to make an appearance. :) The quicker we nail down a new date the better.

Hmmm... in April 2012 there will be a science fiction convention in Seattle featuring author Stephen Baxter:

I'm all for Seattle again--In my case it was a bit too whirlwind :D One day & some change was FAR too short...of course, the fact that it's not too far is a great plus also:)

I'd like to remind people/point out (if someone hasn't already) that the decision was that the middle/end of June or the middle of July were the best timeframes to do another Seattle meetup.

Those timeframes are out of the way of school, and away from other things that usually happen in the summer that would interfere.

I would also like to suggest contacting the Scifi museum about hosting another event/series of events for a weekend in that timeframe, such as panels, movie screenings, etc.

They seemed to embrace the business that we brought them, and perhaps we can use that to convince them to set up something like that again.
