Woah, woah woah!! That is amazing!! Could you do something like that with your Neytiri model?

Yeah, just have to think of a nice pose but ill see what i can do :)

In the meanwhile ive been busy with preparations for the short animation i got planned. Just as building Ney and Jake was an experiment so is this.
With realistic humanoid characters its hard to animate them properly.
For me anyway :) So i'm planning to use all the help i can get.

Next to filming myself as reference i stumbled upon motion capture software using the kinect camera, how awesome is that :D
Hopefully the quality it good enough to get some interesting data i can use as reference. Got to the store for a kinect set and so far its looking great i'm pretty positive.
Software is actually made by a fellow dutchman how about that :P
His page can be found here: Rants about Mocap, MoBu, Maya and coding

Below a screenshot of the software tracking me :P

Wow this is looking very high tech. :) The motion capture technology could help you make some interesting reference pics for your models.

Gave Neytiri and Jake both a different skin color, not sure thats completely right but i kinda liked it :) Good point tho, things might improve by adding a little more contrast.
Will give it a try, thx!

Did some more work on Jake's emotes.
This time i was amazed/surprised.
The image doesnt show the full range of the emotion, about 50% amazed here, mixed a little with some scared parts.

Yes thats what i hope to get out of it. Sofar its awesome to mess with but i have doubts i can get it to the quality i need for proper referencing.
Might go back to filming 2D as reference.
Anyway i started preparations for the animation (setting up the scenes to make an animated storyboard).
Did some cleaning up and sorting things out to make sure everything is going well when its all in one scene.
A quick render to see if all the dynamics are holding up during a fast motion. They didnt :( but after some tweaking things are starting to look alot better again :D Getting close.
Oh and i increased the constrast of the skin a little, believe that was mentioned here?

That is such a natural pic. :) It looks like it could easily be in the movie.

I think her face looks a little too big in that one.

And both of their teeth are too visible .. very bright.

Overall I think their faces themselves look just a hair too "round", almost a little cartoony, but not really.

Besides that, it looks great! Has LSE or WETA called and offered you a job yet?
